Last song my mother and I listened to together before her passing in 1985. I was 16, she was just 38. I'll never forget it! Still brings me to tears. Beautiful!
This song is one of a kind but thanks to technology and resources like TH-cam, younger generations can discover and enjoy this music. It can also influence young artists and inspire them to incorporate this style into newer music.
As an 80s baby I remember all the backyard bbqs and get togethers we had growing up back then listening to gems like these. Good sweet spirits, just happy and enjoying life
I was 9 when this came out, but I remember it being powerful. Even as a kid. I also remember when Marvin passed, because my Mother was in the living room crying, playing his records...iit's one of the few images I still have in my head from that young.

8 yr old kid in second grade..of all the trauma and horrible things I went through music was what lifted me during those times..I remeber hearing this on a late winter afternoon..didn't understand the lyrics at the time but I felt it 💗..
I was 13. It was the first time I heard a song and felt the loss and pain that was so real I had to cry. I never saw the singers of my generation and my dad's generation as separate. There was so much connection with Michael Jackson and Prince etc. and what was Motown music that I just felt like it was the next wave of the same family. So when Marvin Gaye was killed it bothered me, but it hurt my dad and I always felt it in these songs. I asked more about Jackie as a result and learned even more about the music my folks grew up on. This song is beautiful.
First time I heard this, Florida bound, driving through Atlanta in the middle of the night a mystical experience in itself, but this just brought it home.

These days I miss voices and melodies like that very much. - A great song to take you through the darkest hours of the night. All of those heroes will never fade, their music will always be alive!!!
I remember when this song first hit the airwaves. 20 years old in L.A.'s South Bay. I heard it, I listened to the words and it felt like it reached inside me to slowly pull my heart out. I quietly cried through the whole song...I still do. It just wrenches your heart and soul. RIP Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson Thank you both for such beautiful and timeless music you brought to the world when we needed it the most. Like soothing salves for deep social and societal wounds. We are and forever will be in your debt.
I've heard this many times in the past, playing on a radio in a restaurant, from a passing car, over the in-store speakers of a store where i was shopping... always found it a catchy tune! Then, I discovered who sang it and the title... and the honorable tribute that it paid to talented singers like Marvin Gaye and Jackie Wilson... and knew that I must have a copy of it! What an incredible song it is, too! Good tempo, pleasant to hear on a summer day... just some really "feel good music!"

No words of mine could ever do this song justice, as it is beyond beautiful...as soulfully moving, dream inducing, relaxing, sweetly poignant & magically evocative of all that is steeped in mellow rapture, loving reflection & pure, all consuming serenity as any piece of music ever has been, beautifully endearing to the soul as it is, & sung with this smooth, soothing grace, this voice that is as velvety & sublime as any ever recorded. Heavenly. Music such as this cannot be improved upon, at least not within this Earthly paradise.
