6550 and KT120 excited me the most.
I was surprised that the 6550 was the best sounding. The same for the second best the KT150. Nice demo!
Parallel is wider. 2A3 forward presence/edge. 300b Open laid back presence/Air.
By far the best demo channel I have found.

I haven't listened much to Tetrodes as I'm a Triode kind of guy but the KT120 sounded the most natural to my ears !!!

This was super helpful! I am a happy Fezz Audio Titania (legacy) owner too and I've been wondering about the effects of swapping the power tubes. I had an e-mail exchange with Fezz Audio about this, earlier this year. Shoutout to Michał Waluszko, what a great guy! He said that swapping the KT88 for KT120 will give an extra 3W per channel at 4 Ohms. So you're not swapping the power tubes to get more power, but for a different sound. And to just to be complete: With 8 Ohm output, the default KT88 config will deliver 38W per channel. I didn't ask, but I doubt there will be a power increase swapping from KT120 to KT150.
Now going back to your test: I was actually disappointed with the KT120 sound. To me it sounded cold and lifeless. The 6550 was a massive difference, maybe a little bit too laid back for my taste and very warm. The KT150, to my ears, sounded like it had the best of all worlds: warmth, speed, just that little bit more oomph. But the difference between KT88 and KT150 was super tiny.
I am also curious how higher quality 12ax7 preamp tubes, for example Gold Lion, will affect the sound. Did you try this?

When it comes to the KT 150 if I were to use only one tubes with the Titania I'd go for them since for me it's the best power, authority, timber, openess and color mix. So yes I totally agree with you 😀

Second, very nice system. It looks and sounds great. I have been impressed by these speakers each time I have heard them demo'd.
The differences between these tubes are very slight in my opinion.
I'd have to resort to better headphones to hear a difference. In daily use headphones I might pick the 6550 and or KT88.

interesting way of presenting the differences. I would like a video with some upright bass to better understand how the speakers present the bass. And some great guitar too -- either Julian Lage or Bill Frisell or both.

Why is it always Spanish and Portuguese speakers that don't understand when its inappropriate to speak your own language 😅. Think its because languages and French and German are spoken mostly in first world countries, while countries in South America don't have common decency.

Surprisingly I stoped looking and surfed Ali. And the varistion is minute, most likely room SPL might be the main difference.
The SPL differences are very minor but it might also be the case
I think you should have mentioned which makes are the tubes.
KT 150 for me, the speakers do not sound lacking in playback and tonality.
Just because an amplifier can run KT150 doesn’t mean it has the optimized voltage for it; it will work but not at maximum potential. I wrote to a distributor of Copland about their new CTA 407 and he admitted what I said was true; Replacing the tubes with KT150 will work but not increase the power.
Amplifiers biasing circuitry is controlled by microprocessors and are essentially optimised for KT88.
Thanks for sharing. The amp Biasing depends on the manufacturer and indeed amp designed for KT88 and KT150 will differ, but if the amp allows to use different Tubes you might still want to know what will it sound if you different tubes :)
@@VirtualHiFi Understood; I have an opportunity to acquire the Copland CTA 408 integrated from the Canadian distributor into the US for $4,999 (retail $7,999) because it is discontinued and their last unit. It uses 4-KT150 tubes
It is an integrated with a solid state phono stage that has good S/N specs for both MM and MC

Buying an audio component without and audition is nuts, I know, but there are no Copland dealers in the States so any guidance would be appreciated. I am tempted to buy blind at that price. I wonder however if it will be a success with our speakers.
We have Martin Logan Expression 13A ESL which we love.
FWIW my first love was their CLS IIZ (no crossover like no crossover). There are 2-10” powered woofers in each speaker. Before this generation the transition was never seamless. We had an audio engineer to our home and in conjunction with the built in ARC and Martin Logan microphone he was able to achieve an in-room frequency response that is almost ruler flat; the room is 20’ x 20’.
So the amp would only essentially need to drive the panels and yet:

The CTA 408, proved to be quite unpredictable in its matches: it did not properly excite the KEF R11 and the Focal Spectral 40 th , however it performed amazingly low with the JBL L100 Classic and Monitor Audio Gold 100 (all from the 4Ω output - we tested and 8Ω) while it perfectly excited even the ATC SCM70SL (from the output of 8Ω) that go down very low, making them play music in a light, dynamic, very detailed and flowing way!
The sensitivity and resistance numbers of these speakers do not indicate any eligibility criteria on the part of the amplifier, nor can we say that the 12-inch JBL or 9-inch ATC is more passable than the parallel 6.5-7 inch woofers of these speakers flooring.
Therefore, those of you who are thinking about your next purchase, it is a good idea to give it a try before you buy. Be prepared for anything, regardless of speaker size and standard features. Such selectivity is difficult to explain but be sure that within five minutes you will know if it fits or not, that is, you will not need to philosophize it.

Hola, kt 150 mucho escenario (aire)menor precisión en medios kt120 un poco mas controlado, 6550 mucho mas detallado en medios buen escenario bajos muy controlados, kt88 buen escenario, mejores bajos un poco solo un poco menos detallado en medios, y poco más lenta que la 6550 con un poco menos contraste. Será la kt88 tal vez la más equilibrada con más ponch. Va a depender del tipo de sala, altavoces y volumen preferido, (muy alto kt150, medio kt120, bajo 6550 y kt88, lucen más) Excelente prueba, saludos.
Hi, Can this Fezz Titania with standard K88 tubes pair well with my Revival Audio Atalante 5 Speakers or would I need to use KT150 tubes?

Thank you Greg for that intelligent presentation! On first listen, the differences aren't obvious but certain characteristics emerge over time. The KT150s are a little hypertrophied towards the lower-midrange with an incredible extension towards the low infras. The KT120s (which I own) seem almost bland afterwards, and the soundstage also narrows. The 6550s were the big surprise of this listening session. Following the KT120s, the soundstage opens up a little, with excellent control of the entire musical spectrum, from highs to midrange, low-midrange and bass. The KT88s seem to have less control over complex timbres, and are the least interesting of the lot for my taste. What brand are the 6550s?
Hi, thank you for your feedback and very positive words. I agree that 655O sounds very interesting and if I were to choose this amp for me id go for KT150 for might and power and 6550 for midrange magic. Btw KT88,120,150 are Tungsol and 6550 are JJ
KT150 most ballanced top to bottom ; KT88 had extra mid bass , most warm sound ; 6550 nice ballance , a little warmer than KT150 ; KT120 sounded thin and recessed sound compared to the others. I think I prefered the 6550 and KT150 a close second

KT120 is the best. 2º 6550. I do not like with KT150. And muche less with KT88. KT120 and KT66 (hardly any hifi amplifiers that use them today) are the tubes.
With KT66, a Spanish integrated: George GTA-40. Class A ultralinear, point to point, 30 watts, hand made in Barcelona.

Curious to hear kt170 compared to kt150
The kt150 the others sounded gated and distorted are there all the same manufacture of tubes and close period of time?
It can't accept kt66 can they? Have you listened to any kt66 parallel single ended should be a good combination?
Have you tried moving your driver's over to one side say three inches and sloping the acrylic baffle back on the other side at 30 degrees , and the sides need to be bent around 1/6 to a third the length for the slope side and the full length to the back for the other side try that! let me know how you get on!
Can you manually adjust the bias there must be a trimmer pot, you do not want a push pull set to be exactly the same biased you want one to have slightly different current on one tube to the other this reduces oscillation in the tubes at all frequency bands I noticed some slight oscillation with the kt 88. Why make it with autobias I don't see the point degrades the sound it's not particularly difficult as long as you've got to meet them on board.

Thank you for your comment. That is very interesting since in my opinion all tubes were great. I'd say KT88 is in the middle in-between 6550 which has the most midrange and kt150 which has the best bass control and resolution.
All tubes are probably current production tubes............in this case I choose the 6550....
