    After the massive amount of messages on social media and a successful collaboration with the guys from AIRLINE VIDEOS who allowed to use their video, here you have the ATC from the Lufthansa hard landing at LAX a few days ago. Not too much, but enough to hear the humble voice of the trainee pilot after his bounced landing. Go for it, dude. Better next time!

    Hi Everyone. I was on this flight. I was sitting in Economy Class, it was a very hard landing indeed. I did not see anyone bounce out of their seats, but many people who did not hold thier phones and ipads tightly , well they went flying in the air. A few of the overhead bins opened up as well. Yes old ladies were screaming. The best part was the engines reving up for the climb out.

    I had over 21,000 hours in the 747-422. I can attest I have made a few, well, too many bad landings, and few which required a go around. That approach looked ok in the clip, until the late flare, and maybe a bit fast. He bounced, and almost got the nose gear. BUT, the pilot flying did the absolute correct fix. He had flying speed, and took it around. He came back in a second time, and landed successfully. Absolutely nothing to criticize here. We've all done it, or you're lying if all those landings were perfect.

    • @davidfrench5407
      @davidfrench5407 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It looked like a decent sink rate until the mains were about 10-20 feet off the pavement, then it looked like the lift just went away, and it dropped hard that last 10 feet. Maybe his speed burned off, and the lift just went away faster than he expected? Good to not throw the stick full forward and try to force it, good that he went around.

The stress on the struts, wheels, tires... everything just in the gear... amazing. Glad they were able to make it on the 2nd attempt! I destroyed brand new lower control arm and the right new lower ball joint snapped because the manufacturer didn’t put any grease in the ball joint, and that was hitting a big pothole that was tiny the day before after some flooding, I was traveling at 120kmh though I was lucky as although I lost control with the steering wheel snap back, I just took my foot off the accelerator, and I ended up in the opposite lane, but thankfully I just had paddocks either side of the road at that spot and no other cars coming in the other lane. The ball joint snapped after I got to work and went to turn right so I had been at a stop, so it was very low speed thank goodness. My mechanic had another guy do his engine mounts that were new the same way the parts were from the same company.

    I was flying into LAX last August? We were in line to land on 25L and then they had an "incident on the field" and we were told to break off the approach and fly runway heading, climb maintain 3000. We did that and then they vectored us. So we go way hell and gone half way to to Ontario when they turn us in and it OBVIOUS that this is not going to work, we are going to wind up 2 miles behind an Airbus. I point this out to ATC "you know this isn't going to WORK". We are now down to 9800 pounds of fuel. I don't like landing a 767 with less than 11,000 pounds of fuel at the ALTERNATE or anything like that. So we were vectored another approach and they got us in but there was More drama; They cleared Kalitta Air to take off, and while those guys are usually very quick to take off, in this instance they were slow and we had to keep calling them: Kalitta, are you on the roll?" No response. Finally they lifted off and we reached the gate with a bit over 9000 pounds of fuel, way lower than I like!
    Normally LAX is pretty good. I cannot believe that Lufthansa was happy with landing on that short 24R; Sounds like a recipe for hot brakes to me....

    The good news in this video is that Lufthansa is obviously planning to keep their Queens of the Sky in passenger operation for a longer period of time. Recently they had to cancel several transatlantic flights due to a shortage in available pilots with a 747 type rating (due to illness).
    So, to the pilot in this video: keep at it! 👍🏻 We.need you to keep the 747s up. And watch some videos in which Kelsey (74Gear) admits how he has slammed the plane into the ground but that he has been lucky that nobody filmed it. (Nowadays at LAX - no chance!)
