  • This is a Singapore Bike Shop Tour of MOBOT's new showroom. MOBOT is a very popular folding bike company in Singapore, most commonly known for their Mobot Royale folding bikes (which we also ride back home).
    After cycling on the Mobot Royale folding bikes in many countries over the last year, we couldn't miss the opportunity to visit one of the main showrooms for Mobot in Singapore during our trip here.
    Mobot is also helping us during our trip, giving us some demo bikes to use during our time here so we can cycle around Singapore.

    Love Mobot's bike so much!
    I have been using the Mobot Royale folding bike for over 2 years. It is really convenient and comfortable. I can take it everywhere (train, plane or car...)👍
    Especially the new upgrade of Mobot makes me really like it. I climb mountains much more gently. I feel like it's a miniature of a road bike.

    That's neat that Mobot has ebikes too.
    I originally discovered this channel, because I had been cycling to work for the past 10 years, and decided to one day educate myself a bit, lol. I was never really a bike expert, and I'm still not. I just had a bike from high school (Giant Sedona), and just rolled with that as my standard commuter bike for so long.
    Anyways, I decided to start Youtubing bikes, cycling, commuting tricks and tips. And that's how I found this channel. So I've never been a hobbyist, but I value my riding experience. I find cycling to be much more enjoyable than driving a car.
    Cycling always kinds of reminds me of that part in Forest Gump, towards the end where Forest is telling Jenny about his adventures, and they pan to some exceptionally beautiful scenes of him running across America. Past that mirrored lake, and jogging down that empty road. It feels like the whole world is at peace, and all one notices is the tender moments of magic that exist in the everyday that we so often miss. There are trips I took many years ago, and I still can remember the way the sun sparkled over the horizon or how the crisp air danced against my cheeks. The way the leaves sound as they shake up above.
    For the longest time, I never once thought about upgrading my bike, or even considering there were other options. I rode my Sedona for over a decade, and enduring all the wear and tear associated with it. It wasn't until this last year I decided to look into getting an e-bike. Something I could be a little more lazy with, but still enjoy the outside comfortably. I wanted storage options and just to learn a little more about cycling.
    I ended up getting my first folding, and electric bike at the same time. The Lectric XP 2.0. I wanted a folding bike, because being able to stash it in a car and travel opened up a lot of opportunities for me. And I'm really happy to see e-bikes pick up in popularity. Lectric is a really great 'entry level' company, but I'm certain in the future I'll probably upgrade to a better cycle for sure. I want something that weighs less.
    ------------
    One thing that really caught me off-guard in my quest to learn more about cycling is just how many older people are getting into e-bikes. I joined a bunch of social groups for Lectric specifically, and I'd say like 70% of the people buying them are older folks 50-70 year range. A lot of them get the foldable ebikes for their RVs and campers. Apparently they're really useful to get around campsites with, and being foldable makes them easy to store.
    The sad part is there's a lot of stories of 50 year olds getting 'their first bike,' and throttling it straight into a ditch and then swearing off cycling forever. It's hard for me to understand, because I grew up cycling my whole life, as a kid and into my adulthood. So the idea of never touching a bike ever until 50 seems so foreign and strange. And then to hear stories of these people who hardly know how to ride a normal bike jumping straight into an E-bike and cruising around recklessly is nuts! I think the part that frustrates me the most is when someone does something reckless or stupid, and then blames the hobby on it.
    Man, this post is all over the place. Keep up the good work as always!

    Thank you for this tour of this Mobot store - I LOVE the Royale models because they fold up some beautifully, like Bromptons. I just purchased a barely-used Dahon Mariner D7 and it's a great little 20" wheeled foldable bike. These little bikes are a lot of fun to ride, but if you need to cover a lot of miles over X number of hours, they're not ideal, eh?

(U can detour to Jurrasic Mile before the start of TMCR). The other is along Singapore River to Marina Bay to East Coast Park and back. Another good slow but beautiful ride is the Punggol Waterway park. And Ulu Pandan PCN which has an interesting circular bike bridge over the highway. Have fun!

    Singapore has many brands of trifold bike beside Brompton - Pikes, 3Sixty, Aceoffix, Garcia, Royale, Ethereal, etc. Trifold is popular because it makes bringing onto public transport (train) so easily. You could take a train ride back home if you hit into thunderstorm when you are at the other side of the island.

    Wow! Great show and tell on these folding bikes. Never dreamed of such a variety of two-wheelers even a few years ago. Bikes are definitely becoming “a thing” nowadays. A concern is that on weekends, even week days, there can be too many cyclists around town and the pathways/trails/streets/parks get pretty crowded to the point where if you aren't highly alert, you could have a collision or other mishap. So, maybe we shouldn't over promote cycling as we could end up spoiling what is now a good thing by having too many cyclists clogging up urban environments and eventually the mountainous terrains. So, cycling congestion could be lurking right around the corner as this activity becomes more and more appealing. Still, the video was exciting to watch, and it makes us want to go out and buy one of those nifty, folding bicycles.

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the risk of accidents increases, but hopefully it also shows there is a need for even more cycling paths 😃

  • @NightOwwl728
    @NightOwwl728 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    It was actually your channel that turned me onto the idea of folding bikes. Really wanted to get one ever since I watched those vids. Unfortunately, no Mobot stores on this continent and don't really want to take the chance of ordering one and having it damaged in shipping either. Not a fan of their bling, though, but, really like that they've gone beyond the Bromptons with respect to the gearing options (even with the onboard bike computer too). And, they're substantially less expensive too. Would you consider their build quality equal to the Bromptons?

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not an expert on build quality and I have limited experience with Brompton, but I have been riding this bike for the last year and everything has held up really well so I think the build quality is good. The biggest issue is having a support network for repairs outside of Singapore since other bike shops may not be able to or willing to do service on them.
      I also am not a big fan of too much bling, but luckily they have some less bling options (my bike for example is mostly all black). Another nice thing with the price discount is it can be worth going to Singapore to pick the bike up in person. The savings alone will help pay for most of a plane ticket.

    I like the store. Small, but dedicated to a specific brand. Very cool. I have a Dahon Vitesse I7. I don't know how it compares to your Royale folding bikes, but I don't care for how mine handles. Too squirrelly. Hard to keep a straight line. One thing I really like about the bike, though, is that it has a 7-speed internal hub which shifts very smoothly. The Royale looks so much like the Brompton. Have you compared them? If you plan on traveling a bit with your own folding bikes, that luggage you pointed out might be a good investment. Which one do I like? I'll take the model Thuong is riding. I'm partial to red, and with the gold components . . . wow! But I'll take an internal geared hub over the derailleur, as I'm spoiled now after using one🙂. Love the video. Looking forward to your journeys around Singapore, even though it's a short trip this time. Have a good one.

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  ปีที่แล้ว

      We've only ridden Brompton for a short time, but I think in terms of ride quality it is mostly the same. Went to the Mobot website, doesn't give good detailed information. Are all the bikes carbon fiber, aluminum alloy or what? My wife is shorter than most, this looks like a good bicycle for her. Not even sure they sell in the US or if shipping charges would be prohibitive in the US, they do not give US pricing, lots of questions.

      They mostly sell in Singapore currently, but they do online orders internationally. Depending on the country though, the shipping and customs can be quite expensive. You can try contacting them for a quote.

  • @nigelhockenhull8435
    @nigelhockenhull8435 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do these bikes come close to Bromptons hand built by craftsmen quality? Personally I find the gold to be tacky, I’m sure it’ll be okay in Singapore, Vietnam etc but would soon become tarnished if used daily in England, the home of Brompton .

    • @TwoWheelCruise
      @TwoWheelCruise  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't know how they compare, but we have been riding them for a year now with no issues so they seem to be durable with good quality.

      @@TwoWheelCruise In the UK 20 year old Bromptons are still used daily by commuters, I’m torn between a Brompton and a Bike Friday Diamond Lama. I just love small wheeled bikes and having an injured inoperable back problem cycling helps and low or step through frame is essential. Royales Litepro’s etc aren’t much cheaper in the Uk due to import duties and delivery etc. But I do value your opinion thank you.
