    I just discovered Grace Potter..... I’m a child of the 70’s. There hasn’t been a rock artist that’s been recognized as rock n roll in years. Grace Potter is a breath of fresh air in a stagnant world of pop artists that all sound the same. Thank you Grace! Rock on chika!

    You have to have a lot of guts and tremendous chops to sing Merry Clayton's part on this song, and Grace has BOTH. It doesn't seem like anyone is referencing Merry and her original, but I saw Merry perform with the Stones at a rare one-off performance on this song with the Stones in North Carolina years ago, and Grace is can bring what Merry brought that night and on the original recording--that high scream, and though I love Lisa Fischer to death, her voice is a little too refined to capture that same vocal scream. Grace has that.

      Same. Never heard of her. Opened for Mule at the Filmore in San Francisco 2007. Flying V -- B-3 -- I was standing less than 10 feet from the stage. Nearly 5 hour show. We are very lucky to have such enormously talented musicians left to clean up the messes left by lipsynchers and auto-tune.

    Lisa Fischer does it far better, she brings the vocal drama of her intro into the song with so much more power. Very few of female known artistes have come close to Lisa, that's why Stones kept her and Bernard Fowler with them as backing vocals for so long.

    I'll be honest. This was not a song for Grace to sing. I've seen every show throughout the years with guest female singers on this song, and even Lady Gaga did a great one, and I'm no music buyer of hers. This was the worst guest singer I've heard, and following Twitter comments during the show I saw that others agreed. A few Grace fans said otherwise. Nice of Mick to do that for her, but MN fans lost out on a more inspiring performance with Lisa Fischer, and this Gimme Shelter rang flat from what it sounds like. Recognizing one's limitations on certain types of songs is good to know. Hopefully at the next show Grace is opening at they won't use her again, because these shows are about Rolling Stones fans who paid a lot of money to see the Stones, not Grace; it's not about public relations and being nice. It's about the best show possible for thousands of Stones fans. Sorry to burst anyone's bubble, but I know I'm speaking for others too. :/ Thank you for the video. Hope you had a great time!

    • @JMBohn29
      @JMBohn29  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Ouch. The only negative comments I've been reading are those complaining about Lisa not singing the song. As if she hasn't sung it 1072737282992x. Grace covers Gimmie Shelter all the time and always does a great job. Her mic could've used more volume but being there front row, it was great. I heard a bunch of people around me in awe of her performance. The video really doesn't do it justice. The pace of the show went up after her performance, she woke the crowd up.

    • @Grendelmonster8u
      @Grendelmonster8u 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jessica Bohn Maybe ouch, but I once posted three videos of three other singers on Gimme Shelter comparing their styles. I was talking about comments like "She ruined it," along with those, "I wanted to see Lisa do it," and the like. The pace of the show has to do with the songs, not Grace. It's the same at all the shows. Lisa gets more excitement because she can really sing high, is a great singer, plus she toured with them in the 90s, plus people have watched the 20 Feet From Stardom Oscar winning documentary, and thus how many times she's sung it doesn't matter, because there are new people or people who have never seen her before. The songs went from Miss You to Gimme Shelter--the audience reaction is always the same. They wake up because of the song. Well, anyway, she got the opportunity.
      On a side note, people have mixed feelings about guest appearances who join them on stage no matter who it is. I see it on YT all the time. Even when I think the guest _did_ do a good job, some people just want to hear the band do it. I can understand why. If it's someone like Bruce Springsteen or someone very famous, they seem more charitable. (Somebody's comment below disappeared.)
      BTW, when they announced the tour openers, I did go and listen to several of Grace's videos.
      Now I feel like listening to Merry Clayton's solo version of it after she did the original, because she's my favorite one. It has a great groove. ((: Thanks for replying.
