It is funny that the child pianist has won almost every possible award at his age and yet you guys on YT manage to criticise a single mother and two children who have recently lost their dad. Prodigy or not, best technique or not these kids are beyond what most of us could do at their age. I hope they keep it up and continue to play beautiful music.
@Giverny Some criticise, some belittle his work, some watch in wonder. I absolutely agree with you, but I was shocked to see how many people here diminished this boy. A boy!
IMO the clip was not critical at all in a negative sense: it was actually quite sympathetic to the unrelenting demands made on account of the talent of her children. Perhaps you couldn't understand her [German] dialogue in the car scene.
Thanks for this short documentary about this family. I discovered videos from Maddox a while ago and even have had e-mail contact with him. Didn't know about the father passing away but I respect the mother for managing to keep the family going on and giving Miles and Maddox a chance of living their dreams as they are really passionat about music
Geeeze ! So great to see such young talent....I chuckled to see his feet so far off the floor in one of the videos. Best wishes to the young talents from Maine USA
They are both good students - perhaps very good students - but they are not prodigies. That is of a different order altogether. Most professional musicians, however, were like these children - they were not prodigies - it is persistence and opportunities that allow for a career in the end. It seems they have the commitment and their mother is doing what every parent of a musical child must do - support their work and interest, so perhaps they will persist, but both need better teachers. If their technique is not improved it will not allow them to go beyond a certain point. They need a teacher that teaches Russian technique and another that teaches theory in the Japanese style. But the tension, especially in the pianist, needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Listen to Ted Wirth's lectures. I find his the best and easiest to understand on piano technique. Better yet, find them an excellent Russian teacher. There must be some in Germany.
The technique is so bad. If it isn't corrected, they will suffer from debilitating injuries later on and will not be able to do much on the piano at all. Ergonomics 101. I'm not a huge believer in Taubman, but they have a lot of things right, specifically some basic physiological principles. Avoiding dual muscular pull or co-contraction of muscles (which is being demonstrated in this video to a scary degree), the curling in of the distal finger joints with the collapsing in of the main knuckles, pulling both the extrinsic extensor and flexor muscles tight across the wrist. I hope they are able to find a decent teacher who can help them achieve what they love.
I’m sure the mother is providing the best she can afford but don’t forget she is now reduced to no income. She can’t work because she homeschools them and spends her days running them everywhere. All of you have made great suggestions but the fact is the woman’s husband died suddenly and prematurely. The only help she gets is from the boys godfather and who knows how long that will last. He could run into hard times and not be able to support them. Maddox stands a chance of improving to a higher level, but at this point Carnegie Hall could possibly be unrealistic simply because of the mom’s reduced financial situation. The brother I’m not so sure about. But regardless the boys have been deeply affected by his death last year obviously and that may be a hindrance to them as well. I noticed there’s no mention about grief counseling. People always say things like children are resilient which is the most asinine thing I’ve ever heard. If traumatic events throw adults into a downward spiral what makes them think kids will fare any better? It seems their only therapy is their music because you can feel the grief and sorrow coming from them.
Beautiful.... beware of burnout....and as they get older their technique will come under more scrutiny and that's when the real test will energe. All the best
Fantastique ce jeune pianiste. Aussi son frères Miles au violon est prometeur. Wish both to get the appropriate techers to grow and finetunning their technique. Wish all succes as pianist and violinist❤❤🎉🎉
If you want to hear a "prodigy" listen to Alexandra Dovgan or Eva Gevorgyan. There are many others, but none of them are prodigies for long - soon they become musicians - since we're all only 10 years old for a year. These two, however, are really remarkable. Dovgan especially, has such a grace, modesty, and purity along with a gargantuan talent. It's rare to see such a thing. She's unique in many ways. Gevorgyan is a monster at the piano. She plays a lot of Liszt so the snobs of classical music dismiss her - but they do so at their own peril. Liszt's music is as great as anyone's - much of it deeply profound and astonishing. The fact that he was a showman does not change that fact. Gevorgyan's Liszt is fabulous. She's just fabulous - Ravel, Rachmaninoff - it doesn't matter.
They are NOT prodigies! Ask a real professional to watch their videos and they’ll tell you they’re like any other dedicated kid learning to play an instrument… just with an ambicious Mom.
@Giverny I think I understand your point now. The truth is that we are living a culture of immediate results. Immediate success, this need to call attention, to be called outstanding, people seem to get more amazed by a headline than what they are really listening to or watching. Most people will just “buy it”. Good musicians don’t need this kind of advertisement. Even kids, it’s not fair to them to be over exposed when they’re clearly not ready.
@Giverny agree… the difference is, that a real child prodigy, seems to have born with an amazing understanding of music and they can achieve really incredible results in much less time than any other person with an average talent.

Just normally gifted children. WE are the ones who are underdevelopped. And the reasons are formulated from Doman, Montessori and Co. Build already before the conception a learning friendly environment and let your child do the rest.
@Lourens G between school-system, vaccinations, traditions that must be followed, we are crushed and must be crushed. We are supposed to become good employees. This child got a piano and found his way with it, he practices 3h/day. I tried this and my parents said, I have to do first my houseworks at perfection and must sleep enough to be fit for the school. Result: max 1h. So I had to skip school so I could practice piano (but then 9h/day :-D ). Non, rien de rien, non, je ne regrette rien.

To any professional, it’s very obvious: this boy is a passionate and avid player but no prodigy. There is no sign of musically sensible phrasing or any phrasing at all (it’s just playing the notes uniformly); the hand and fingers’ position isn’t established quite correctly, especially in the left hand; the finger agility is emerging, but the tone isn’t consistent throughout, etc. There are thousands of players like him, yet it takes a special skill and predisposition to be called a prodigy. Wishing this child many great explorations ahead. Impressive results, yet once again, too far from being called a prodigy.
The two children are adorable but I don't like the way of the violin playing. There seems to be no "clear intonation". But I am not a violin player so probably the time of practicing will help...do beginners all have that problem as it is technically very difficult to play a clean, full tone?
We all thought that in our lives we would never see prodigys like Mozart or Paganini alive, it’s really hard to believe that is real, it looks just like a movie, I can’t wait to see what they will compose
Uh, he is playing too difficult things for his age therefore is sloppy and unmusical. I see nothing promising him to become an artist, usually what is rare at this age is being natural and sensible. He is just a kid they forced to work way too much for his abilities, there are thousands like him in China and South Korea.
@@JuanDiaz-qz9xv I’m not a prodigy. If I was, I wouldn’t be in the comment section of a TH-cam video. If you want to listen to how a child prodigy sounds like listen to Yuja Wang and Alberto Cingolani to get a fair idea.

The violin kid isn't showing any signs of much talent. The piano boy is a different story, but he's not a prodigy. Sorry. Let's keep it real, folks. He will be a fine pianist later in life. In a few years even.
Of course. Sasha Dovgan at age 8 had full flawless technique already. This boy is yet another "story". He is given pieces that technically harm his hands placement habit. I do not understand how parents do not get scared about exposeing their child to be viewed as something they may be not. Is it not better to keep a low profile until the skill trully blossoms?
watched 1 minute.. He's sloppy and playing pieces beyond his technique.. which suggests a pushy unskilful teacher.. shame.. sweet boy with obvious talent and interest.. I hope he pulls through..
That younger brother is not a prodigy. You can see that even he knows it, if you study his face. Looks like mommy is trying to be "fair and equal" OR "completely extraordinary". Either way, I'm guessing that trying to create a 2nd family prodigy will backfire disastrously in the early teens.
Zeit, Geld und Nerven, alle kostet. I would think the Audience should also be at the same age group, not like the old generation take advantage(ein Vorteil) of the young. Why young people always have to proof themselves to the old, cross culture, Trans culture to me is OK, but cross generation, young kids have to make a living at a such early age, is just critical. Just imagine kids are not playing with each other whether in school or in their Freizeit, the old generations are taking advantage of other weak ethnical group kids, and then benefit their own local, relative, the same Beruf group kids. Then some people would be always losing out, the others are always going to be beneficial. In a Long-Term, that will cause another social inequity. When kids and adults are going to share their own idea, knowledge, creativity with others, it should be fair and based on freiwillig. It must be a free of choice. If they don’t want, you can’t force them to do so. We also need to protect intellectual property, although it’s invisible. So young people would have more incentives to create more new ideas.
2:56 That's not good. A child should also have spare time to just have fun, be creative, even if the instrument is his best-loved hobby. Someday, childhood will be over and you don't want your son(s) to then regrent all the spare time they missed that will hardly ever come back the way it would have been in childhood. Dreaming, trying things, getting lost in time, spending time with friends...
"child prodigies" always worry me. How much do they really choose. Even Yehudi Menuhin reported that his grandmother used to lock him in the room to practice for up to 8 hours a day. A few years ago a girl hailed as a maths genius managed to run away from university and initially hid from her father. Loving parents can sometimes be blinded by their own ambitions as to what is good fir their child. How many 8 year old children would want to be sitting at a piano for the best part of their day? You dint get this level of skill from an hour a day of practice.

Not prodigies but VERY talented!
@@lourens753stfu this kid isnt a prodigy
What's the lovely piano piece at 5:04? Thanks! :)
Very uneven playing
Not to be a spoil-sport or overly critical, but that violin needs to be tuned! It is consistently flat.
the violin girl at the end is more musical.. musicality is everything.. real virtuosity only comes with virtue.. spirituality.. muses.. inspiration... 4 h a day is too much.. could get burnt out and tired.. needs to play.. relax.. draw.. sports.. do nothing.. he is 8 for gods sake.. technique is superior to mechanichs.. not more than 1 hour practice a day.. let him evolve naturally.. no hurry.. aspire to horowitz sound at the end of his life.. pure wisdom and happyness and muse
That's not a girl, it's the younger brother, Miles.
@@salchst miles is more musical thats the point.. enjoys more music, will play at 80 thats what matters not short run careers, most profesionals end up getting burnt out, a shame, most beautiful profesion in the world loosing the muse so often.. a street musician has more inspiration than most
To any professional, it’s very obvious: this boy is a passionate and avid player but no prodigy.
Note to DW channel. He's not a prodigy. Not even close.

прошу передать огромное очень теплое мяу от моего кота мурзика этим детям
Miles is off pitch quite a bit. Definitely the fault of lax / poor teachers. This can ruin his hearing.
@@Paroles_et_Musique You might be right, but only time will tell
Die Geige klingt eher schief als gut. Ehrlich gesagt.
Sounds more like a well trained kid than a prodigy.
Agree. And they’ve lost the right to go to school
It seems you are an expert in the matter. I'd like to listen to you and likely tell the difference between a well trained pianist and a prodigy.
@@JuanDiaz-qz9xv I’m not a prodigy. If I was, I wouldn’t be in the comment section of a TH-cam video.
If you want to listen to how a child prodigy sounds like listen to Yuja Wang and Alberto Cingolani to get a fair idea.
My daughter is a prodigy and I agree with your comment. He is good and he has excellent training and parents.
@@pjbpiano He didn't say you're a prodigy. He said you sound like an expert on the matter and an opinionated one for that matter, to make such negative comparisons about a young child. If you have nothing good to say, then rather say nothing. Especially when it concerns children.
Come on! This kid is NOT a prodigy. Just listen to his videos. Just watch how he plays. Nowadays every Mom sells the story that the kid is prodigy. Social media and media are selling therse stories.
Real prodigy: Hina Shiotsuka, Alma Deutscher, Lozakovich, Malofeev, Alexandra Dovgan. Just listen to them.
Agreed. Oh also don't forget to add Himari Yoshimura
@@tj3952 Right! Amazing! But this also doesn’t mean that other young musicians that aren’t prodigies can’t get to a point of great interpretation. Just these kind of fake stories are sickening.
@@punchis5662 Indeed. The title should rather be something like "How To Make Your Child a Prodigy"
@@tj3952 🙃 maybe… but it would be a bit controversial if they’re born or “made” … Anyway … “How to help your child become a professional musician and enjoy music” (?)🤓
Oui, on pourrait en rajouter beaucoup d'autres dans la liste: Ivan Bessonov, Eva Gevorgian...
Wow
The violinist brother does not sound quite ready to me.
Nor the big one. He’s just a kid learning piano with regular talent.
@@punchis5662 Right, finally someone with a trained ear in those comments.
@@Paroles_et_Musique Hi! … Yes. But isn’t it upsetting that Deutsche Welle doesn’t investigate with some professional musicians before posting this? Some of the best musicians and Conservatoires are in Germany. It’s a shame.
Thank you for sharing your opinion on the matter!
The emperor is nude. This is bogus.
All guys can practice 3 hours a day
They need socialization
watched 1 minute.. He's sloppy and playing pieces beyond his technique.. which suggests a pushy unskilful teacher.. shame.. sweet boy with obvious talent and interest.. I hope he pulls through..

Passage bei 2:30 plus minus ist ja dermaßen schlecht intoniert. Musik ist wichtiger als Geschwindigkeit
That younger brother is not a prodigy. You can see that even he knows it, if you study his face. Looks like mommy is trying to be "fair and equal" OR "completely extraordinary". Either way, I'm guessing that trying to create a 2nd family prodigy will backfire disastrously in the early teens.
Yeah his intonation was rough.
He’s like Vitus in real life
😊
Lots of Asian kids like this.
Is she better than Yuja?

He doesnt have the natural gift. To me its just lots of practice but certainly far from prodigy.
@@lourens753 bruh what you said and what I said can both be valid since one doesn't interfere with the other
