"Cheech" Marin is the driver. Nicknamed Creech because a family member said he resembled chichanone, Spanish for a popular food made from pork bellies .Tommy Chong is the passenger. Glad you enjoyed this!
The whole movie is awesome!!! I saw it in the movie theater about 12 times when it came out and many more since!😂😅😂 My bf and I knew the whole movie by heart. I got most of their comedy albums when they came out when i was a kid!!! 😂😅😂
Saw this in 1978 for my 20th birthday. Went to the drive in and it was packed to the rafters. I think every car there was smoke filled that you couldn’t see through the windows lol. The 70s ruled! 🤘
This movie came out in 1978, Cheech & Chong had already been a huge stand-up comedy act since 1971. “Up In Smoke” was one of those movies that it seemed like everyone went to see. Even my grandparents went to see it and they loved it. I first saw it when I was 11 and it was beyond belief. You guys need to see the entire movie, it’s just non-stop funny. There is a female tv news reporter named Suzuki Kawasaki. Nuns get arrested for drugs. A van made out of weed. A nasty cop out to nail Cheech & Chong who gets seriously abused. A battle of the bands contest. A woman who snorts Ajax powder cleanser. Cheech & Chong made several movies, but this one was the best.
Oh wow, your comment echoes mine - I just posted it. Grandparents loved it. News reporter. (I thought her name was Honda Kawasaki, but I could be wrong). The Ajax sniffer was my favorite.
well before than we were listening to their comedy albums, and chong was the passenger. so glad after years of them being split that today we get to see them together again,
I'm old so when this when this came out i was at the perfect age to really enjoy it, we almost peed our pants watching this! It's still makes me laugh 😂😂
When I was in High School My BFF and I worked in a movie theater. Every night we would turn the volume down in the projection booth and one night I would be Cheech and he would be Chong. The next night we would switch parts. We knew every line in this movie. All we knew about the movie is there was a giant joint in it. We didn't know how big it was but in order to sell the movie we found a 4 ft. imitation Christmas tree in the attic of the theater. We wrapped it into a huge joint and wrote Up In Smoke on it and walked back and forth in front of the place. It was February so it was cold as hell but it was fun anyway. A few fun things to know about this. 1. This is the only C&C movie NOT directed by Tommy Chong 2. The dog that stole the hotdog was a stray and not an actor. Since it worked they kept it in the film. 3. The entire time (in this movie) neither of them got loaded at all. However, in the booth we were.😎😎 Too bad you didn't do the whole thing.
I easily remember in '78, '79 and '80 going to the drive in with several cars and drivers, all parked side by side and passing joints and munchies back and forth all night watching Up in Smoke. I walked away from all drugs in '81 but damn the '70s were a blast. LMAO
I saw this in the theater in 1978. Everybody was smoking pot. In those days movie theaters still had ash trays built into the arm rests. This was the first Cheech and Chong movie, but I had heard their comedy albums already. They were in the so-called "underground" comedy scene...
I was surrounded by stoners growing up here in Southern Cal. This movie was hilarious - the whole thing is funny - from the chick who snorts Ajax to Honda Kawasaki - plus Cheech and Chong - everyone contributed to the laughs. Eventually it started popping up on cable. I remember going over to my grandparents house one day, and my grandma was watching it, laughing at the nuns in the movie. I don't think she fully understood what was going on, but what she did get, made her laugh.
My brothers liked the reaction, first time I see someone actually letting us see most of the movie clips. Continue doing it and I will continue watching you guys and giving it a ❤ for your channel, Thnx and take care.
The first real comedians I heard, got the album Big Bamboo the album came with a real rolling paper the size of the album cover that's where that giant joint came from. any ways me and my friend used to reinact some of their routines. I sending the links to some of their funny routines . should watch the whole movie up in smoke then their next movie call next then nice dreams. but the links below are from 1st couple albums.
I wish I still had mine! Mine got ruined in my flooded basement when my sump pump died in a storm and I wasn't home! The memories will last till I croak!
There's a moment during the pulled over scene where Tommy Chong almost breaks character. It happens when Cheech tells the officer "I just thought of something real funny....your mama!". If you watch Chong, he clenches up and buries his face as to not be seen laughing. When he does look up you can see in his eyes he's still trying to hold it together.
"The Love Machine".... This car is Movie Legend. 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS coupe. The film cost less than $1 million to make and hauled in $44 million at the box office. That’s a lot of hash-er, cash. Pedro’s “Love Machine” also carries a personalized California license plate that’s a little on the obscene side (you’ll have to check it out for yourself). “It was a day in the life of Cheech and Chong, or Pedro and Man, which was much more interesting than a plot,” Marin told Rolling Stone. “It’s ‘two guys meet, they decide to form a band together, but first they need a joint.’ Therein lies your plot.”
Most anyone old enough to have lived through this time can relate, the 60's and 70's were a stone out. We could buy four finger oz's of Mexican for $15.00 dollars and a gram of coke was $125.00.
The thing about LSD is that you do laugh 😂 your ass off for like the first half hour, anything and everything is hilarious. I thought my guts were going to rip apart.
lots of that back in the day..been there..done that....cops use to tear the car apart looking...if they caught us...sometimes they did..there was no traffic back then in the country.
Straight up I almost got in a serious physical fight because I used the term "let's get Chinese eyes" and there happened to be an Asian friend of ours there who, lucky me, NEVER saw the movie and they didn't believe me at first but I showed them that scene and they were like Oh damn my bad lol
...and you call yourselves Canadian? lol Tommy Chong, the guy with the drugs, is yet another great Canadian comedic export. He was born in Edmonton. He and his family later moved to Calgary, when he was still a kid. He also played lead guitar in the group, "Bobby Taylor and the Vancouvers"
WE HITCHIKED HOME FROM COLORADO RIVER, GOT RIDE IN VW WITH TWO STONERS. WE GOT PULLED OVER, THEY ATE ALL THEIR DRUGS (A LOT!!!) BUSTED FOR STEALING A COW OFF A DAIRY!!!! THEY WENT TO JAIL, COPS LEFT US ON HIGHWAY!!!👍👍👎👎😵😵
You missed their license plate. MUF DVR. Chong with the beard. Cheech driving. Back in the day they had a comedy album Big Bamboo that looked just like BigBamboo rolling paper. It came wil a large rolling paper inside the jacket. Same as what he was smoking.
i was 14 when this movie came out we went to the driv-in to see it everyone was sitting on there cars smokin a J -- the record came out and in it was a huge rolling paper i put a pond of weed in it and wenr-t to see ZZ-TOP and the rollin stones it was the same size of the one they rolled
was not the hippy gen, the hippies were in the mid to early 70s, this was late 70s my era, I graduated in 77 so this was my teen years, KISS Army forever
"Cheech" Marin is the driver. Nicknamed Creech because a family member said he resembled chichanone, Spanish for a popular food made from pork bellies .Tommy Chong is the passenger. Glad you enjoyed this!
You meant Nicknamed "Cheech" and it's a "chicharron" not what you spelled.
How did Cheech not get an oscar for best leading man just on that scene?
Chicharones plural @@allupinya5938
Cheech also dominated Celebrity Jeopardy
The first scene with Strother Martin as Chongs dad is classic.
I saw them live in Long Beach, CA in 70's...frigging hilarious!!! They have comedy albums, which were hysterical!!!😅😅😂😃😄😅
Yeah we went to see the movie in the theater on orange sunshine
We were just stoned. It was foggy that night in more ways than one! Great memories!
I remember seeing this in the movie theater stoned out my mind. My stomach hurt for a week from laughing 😂😂😂
I saw it stoned with a friend of mine at a foggy drive-in theater. IT was foggy inside the car that night also! Wink wink!

The whole movie is awesome!!!
I saw it in the movie theater about 12 times when it came out and many more since!😂😅😂 My bf and I knew the whole movie by heart. I got most of their comedy albums when they came out when i was a kid!!! 😂😅😂
One of the BEST scenes EVER

A generation defining masterpiece.

I was 19 when this movie came out. I lived in SD Cal.
Up in smoke rocked so hard, even at the end when they entered the battle of the bands 🤟😎
When i was a kid i use to listen to their records . They are amazing

It was foggy outside and in the car the night we watched it! LOL
The joke back in the day was you can drive cars with chain link steering wheels with handcuffs.
I grew up with this movie and still totally love it.
There first album came with a huge rolling paper that could make a joint that large.

Great choice.
I saw this in the theater in 1978. Everybody was smoking pot. In those days movie theaters still had ash trays built into the arm rests. This was the first Cheech and Chong movie, but I had heard their comedy albums already. They were in the so-called "underground" comedy scene...

Saw them live years ago. We laughed so hard! Course we were very high

Most famous line"DAVE'S NOT HOME!!!"
Dave's not Here.
One of the best. My dad who was hard to make laugh loved this movie.
Imagine you're in the theater full of Stoners and Smoke and everybody is laughing their POO POO off. This movie set a whole new standard for comedy.
I was surrounded by stoners growing up here in Southern Cal. Classic Cheech and Chong
This was from the late '70s. Cheech & Chong's "Nice Dreams" is another great movie.
Back when this movie came out, they also released an album that came with rolling papers that size, took a lot to roll one
That’s along PCH near Malibu. That steering wheel was popular with the Low Riders in the late 60s and the 70s
