thank you for using the word appropriately. yes, they are hideously underrated. i hate it when an indiv uses the word to describe an artist whose music only he likes but his friends don't like and then he thinks that applies to the rest of the world when in fact that artist is actually pretty fackin famous.
I love this. Give them any guitar and they’ll play the hell out of them. Your average 13 year old guitar player can play any song by the Hives and that’s awesome. I would rather listen to the hives than joe satriani.
They are amazing minimalistic: they play with cables, 1 cable each, unplugging on every guitar change themselve. one or two amps and cable. The singer, being one of the most active running around on the stage and in the crowd with a few hundred meter cable. They are a real rock band, not like others with guitar techs switching their pedals.... whats next the techs playing?
How are all these people saying that these guys don't know anything about their rig? Plain and simple, if you're not U2, metallica or Rush, you just take any amps that work, sound good and are available at the location, and guitars that perform well and that they can beat up on the road. The vintage expensive stuff stays home, for use in the studio.
@@animoetprudentia2865 Really, I always thought they were from Sweden but it might've just been the accent that threw me off. Thanks for letting me know
@@andrewpappas9311 glad to be of service friend. I've been a fan of the hives for damn near 2 decades. Hard to believe it's been that long! They still inspire the rebel in me, the perennial teenager that loves unpretentious rock n roll. Cheers!
Thanks again, PG! Always a real treat to see a new "Rig Rundown" uploaded by you folks. Rebecca never fails to impress with her vast knowledge of all things guitar...keeps the video as interesting as it is entertaining!
I've got a 72 Tele Custom and it is great (natural though not black) with maple neck. The thing with Tele's for me is that they really fight back and the fact that the strings are anchored through the body is a major part of the sound and feel
I don't mind at all that Nicholaus Arson isn't a gear geek (not that there's anything wrong with being a geek). He cares about the sound and he loves playing but he's not bothered with the technicality of it all, he's more about the music and the sound. What's so bad about that? Maybe not the best subject for a rig rundown feature but that's not his fault. Someone also pointed eye contact. Some people are just a bit shy and uncomfortable with that. Who cares?
It's always exciting to have another guitar player in your band. Having someone to bounce ideas off of, and potentially share thoughts and ideas about playing style, gear, and the love of the instrument itself. Unless, of course, the other player is Mr. Arson whom just plays, and doesn't much like to discuss it. Thrilling......
love these guys and they use what does the job not over the top kit you dont need a £4k guitar to play well totally agree I've brought cheaper basses that sound amazing and compete with my more expensive ones, any chance you could do a bass rig rundown for these ?
There's a lot of people out there that don't give a shit what they play, as long as it sounds good. Which I think is super cool. I'm very aware of what I'm using, but I don't care what it is as long as it sounds good. Also, I want that Epiphone Coronet...BADLY.
Those guys are the most talented Punk-rocker of their generation, They can make music and sound great with four pedals, They have their place in Rig Rundown as far as Steven Wilson or Dan Auerbach
You seriously consider this to be the worst of the series? You obviously haven't seen the Dinosaur Jr. video. You can't always expect the musicians themselves to be super enthusiastic for an interview. Usually the best RR's are the ones with the techs. It's rare when you get the actual artist with a well known like The Hives to show you around their whole setup themselves
ever think he just likes to write music and not give a shit how expensive his guitar is? that thing is beat to hell, and the other two aren't really that expensive, one was probably a gift.
The thing is: Just because we are total gearheads doesn't mean that all guitarists out there are, and have to be. No. I know a lot of players who just don't really care about the details of equipment and stuff. They use whatever works for them. This guy would probably be equally happy with a Squier Tele and the cheapest Fender-style tube amp out there. Give these guys a break. They are often brilliant in what they do, they just don't give so much a shit about with what they do it.
Rebecca must be a guitar player because she doesn't miss things. She asks all the right questions. The guys doing these now could learn a few things from her. I also think the guys in the bands are nicer and more forthcoming with her it seems. Like they are nicer. Funny how that works. I still have a crush on Rebecca....haha.
My gut feeling is that he uses an old guitar head, like an old musicman or something of the sort cranked up to get the extra grit while having his ordinary bass rig delivering the low end
“Hot pickup and good wood” and a bit of a knock.. that’s all you need.
“It’s a pretty nice guitar”
*taps*
“Yep, pretty nice”
"I don't know shit". -Nicholas Arson
"I know everything." -Vigilante
One of my favourite Rundowns. Doesn't matter what you play through it's what you play.
The Hives are so underrated
sadly they're still underrated today

Most great things in life are underrated. Just a sad fact of life.
I like this approach, I can relate. They're just your tools, no point being too precious over it all.
I love this. Give them any guitar and they’ll play the hell out of them. Your average 13 year old guitar player can play any song by the Hives and that’s awesome. I would rather listen to the hives than joe satriani.
I Watch this every time i get too into gear! This Is probably my favourite rubdown

As if a band having a big sound that requires someone to trigger multiple pedals behind the scenes that the guitarist cant do on stage is a bad thing.
@@TotinosOtherBoy and you're not talking about a band. You're talking about a stage production.
Stage *hands, for a band, like most bands have

12:44 Nicholaus taking off on a skateboard
“Aight, bouta head out”
Its pretty awesome how they basically worked it out so Ars plays the bridge pickup tones and then Vig plays a lot of bridge pickup tones.
Obsession with gear and "tone" is usually inversely related to tasteful playing and good songwriting. Love the Hives.
Not really
This is fucking amazing. I wasted a whole show trying to figure out their gear, and here you guys are making it all easy and sheeeeeeit. Cheers!
This interview really shows how good Rebecca is at her job. Very well done.
Finally a pedal board I can understand.
I think I've seen them twice and they are great live, real honest, all-out energy.
Awesome interview. Hes like, I don't Know, I just Play Them.
I honestly have to say, these guys may be Swedish but "Vigilante" is maybe the most badass first name ever
Andrew Pappas stage name;)
I agree with that statement, but they're from Finland.
Just FYI.

I love how Nicholaus just doesn't give a shit. Give him a guitar -- he'll thrash it. So unpretentious. I am re-discovering this band after 20+ years.

simplicity. .I love it
I love that Rebecca asks about the pedals, and on which songs they are used.
Coming from a pedal junky I must say, this is the way to go. Bare bones, boost fuzz delay and one pedal for fucked up sounds
Jason Goodwin agreed
This band made me fell in love with Telecasters
Haha these dudes are so laidback. Good to see

For a minute, I thought Arson was Brendan Fraser.
I love how he doesn't give a shit
You CAN geek out on your gear, but you DON'T HAVE TO. In the end all that matters is how it sounds.
PLEEEASE do a BRMC rig rundown! They're touring as we speak. You dont know how hard i've been trying to figure out their setup.
I love their philosophy, give me whatever it works and I'll play the shit out of it while rocking some great songs. You can't get cooler than that.

Great interview, but I wish you'd have asked about the bass rig too.
this guy's amazing...he just cuts the crap..it is what it is!
The don't know much about American designed/made guitars...but as long as they sound good, that's all that matters right?
rebecca can you do a rundown of your own rig?
sick ass epiphone man!!
I love love that Pelle buys his guitars
I don't see what's wrong with watching a rundown with a guy who doesn't care about what he's playing, just that he's playing.
Would love to see a Muse rig rundown at some stage
Oh my god, Arson sounds like he has a radio show. What a nice voice. Maybe he could be a good singer too, in a more gentle style of music :)
Awesome! ❤❤❤
Well there is a rig rundown - Troy van Leeuwen. Have you seen it?
That would be so great! I would be excited to see that!

where the hell are they playing
Just because you drive a car doesn’t mean you’re a mechanic.
It would be awesome if you guys could try and do a Dance Gavin Dance rig rundown, Will Swan gets some crazy awesome sounds.
What is the final music??

what accent does he have, reminds me of an irish gybo
I love how many times they say "I don't know" and how little equipment they use. It sure made for a short video.
