In this episode we take a look back at the MANY styles both mom and I have had through out the years, why we think our style changes and what decor trends are going to be in & out for 2023.

I don’t know about anyone else but I would love to follow moms journey while building the new house. She has such a great on camera personality. I think we could all learn so much from her.

Big YES on the video talking about your building horror stories! Maybe a whole episode going over these stories and your current process of vetting contractors. Tips on identifying red flags, how to respectfully keep an eye on your project/supervise, etc? My friends and family are 1 of 2 types, 1) watch every single move the contractors make and never let them out of their sight, or 2) Say hi to the contractors and let them into the house and never see them again until the end of the work day.
I can't call her "Kathy".....her name will forever be "Mom" 🫶❤️ and we love her!!!

I loved dolls! My sister wasn't as crazy about them but when she hit mid-life, she went nuts about "real" baby dolls. THAT creeped me out.

You have the relationship with your mom that I long for with mine. ❤ Hygge has become the center of how I live my life and decorate my home as well. I work at an antique store so of course I love to incorporate antique/vintage touches. The combination of creamy colors and antique brass is giving me life right now. Do you ever feel you have decor intuition? Like it seems like you go with your gut on what you gravitate toward without following a trend and then suddenly after you’ve implemented it in your life it suddenly becomes trendy? I feel like that’s a real thing.
I always love MaCenna's mom's presence in videos...she is a lovely woman...i would definitely like to see her more and more. she is such a supportive and appreciative mother 💗... loved it where she mentioned that what MaCenna achieved by salvaging old things was way harder than her building things up from scratch. Your mom is at the forefront of new trends and this is why she doesn’t “ follow” trends. By the tone they’re mail stream and are seen everywhere, she’s well on her way to the next thing.

I love how you’re both so thrifty or frugal, and love to recycle and not waste money or things. You’re teaching this generation that it’s actually cool to recycle and buy used rather than always opting for new. There’s a wealth of history and beauty and quality that new things don’t necessarily offer. Great job.
This episode finally answered the question I’ve had for ages: how did your mom end up in the house she’s in now, since I can tell how it’s not really her style. Dad! I get it now :)

Oh my gosh….when your mom talks about how when she shops for what she wants she can never find it, then in a couple of years it’s everywhere…that’s me!!!!!!! I get so frustrated shopping! So glad I’m not alone…I got literal goosebumps when she talked about it, because I felt heard. 😂❤

With the amount of thought and detail and heart you’ve put into this cottage, I can’t see you selling it or even just leaving it as an “investment” property! I would be so emotionally invested, I don’t think I could ever see someone else living in that home or even renting it! It’s such a beautiful home!

My mom always said "what's old is new again". And as I've gotten older, I see waves of things that come in and out of style, or influences from different time periods mixed with what's "contemporary" (current). "Trends" are fluid and ever changing. Find what resonates with you and run with it!!! 💜

MaCenna! My style is french country, heavy on the french light on the country, so please please please convince your mom to let you show their process of building their house. It's a style you don't see very often and I would love to see what she comes up with. Also the Mediterranean house reminds me of Lauren Conrad's house that she grew up in!

MaCenna shows how influenced she was by her Mom whilst she was growing up and now equally Kathy saying she has been influenced by what MaCenna and Romeo have done to the cottage . Can’t wait for more renovations in the cottage but, how wonderful would it be to see MaCenna and her Mom coming together to build her Mom and Dads next property?!

MaCenna! You and I must have graduated from FIDM at the same time! 🥰 I graduated in June of 2008 with an interior design degree and I SO feel you on there being no paid work available. Getting an interior design degree at the height of the recession and housing market crash was impossible. I couldn’t even find unpaid internships so my life quickly took a shift and I ended up working for non-profits and doing graphic design. At 35, I’m just getting back to my passion for interior design… don’t know if it will ever be my career but, in large part because of your channel, I finding my way back to my first love ❤ I’m LOVING this podcast. Thank you for all your hard work!
