I just want to say thank you for supporting a local upholsterer. The profession is a dying breed especially quality work. My mom has been doing upholstery for over 30 years and its amazing how they can breath life back into a piece of furniture
Here here, I've been upholstering 7+ years & love to do pieces with sentimental memories attached or that will be appreciated & generate memories going forward.
My cousin and his wife are upholsterers, as well. It was his wife’s parent’s business that they took over when her parents retired. I wish I lived closer to them because I have a chair my cats have destroyed that I want to get redone.
I had the same thought! My old neighbor did this for over 40 years and she really loved doing it! I wanted to get my sectional done but it was over $2000, so, I guess that might be why it's a dying profession lol but if you have a really unique piece that you can't find elsewhere it might be worth it 🤷♀️
I did a quick google search you can see what paintings of his (John Cawse) have sold at Auction in the past and it looks like it's anywhere from $300-$6,000!
The “paperwork" found is called the provenance of a piece & they make any piece much more valuable & easier to be appraised. Never ever toss out anything you find (even a basic receipt) with original works, no matter the material! You both scored amazing & beautiful finds & you have a great eye! Add learning as much as you can about the items you gravitate towards & the stronger your intuition will become!
You, Macenna, may just have figured out something fantastic here. Reaching out to the estate people to vlog, thus getting a sneak peek at what's there and where the items you like are located. teheehee lol
@@n.p731did you miss that she did a reel/tictoc of it at the time (that she inserted) with the details, no point putting the address on this video as the sale has finished.
It's my mum's birthday today, she passed away in 2015. I miss her so much and I bought a house recently so watching you and your mum shopping for the house and your relationship warms my heart while simultaneously breaks it. I always look forward to watching all of your channels and inspire me to keep working on my house. Seeing what you have done is amazing. Thank you to you and your mum for making my day x
Happy Heavenly birthday to your Mama! I lost my Mama last year - she was 65. We were best friends just like McKenna and Kathleen - my Mum is Kathleen too. Knowing my Mama is healed and happy in heaven is a great relief! As is knowing that we will be reunited one day! As Job said - The Lord gives and the Lord takes away, blessed be the Lord! This channel is a balm to my grieving heart and reminds me of the good times!
I am so sorry, it is really difficult to come to terms with. My mum was 66 when she passed suddenly. I hope you are doing ok, thank you for sharing with me ❤️
A lot of studies have been done on the Mona lisa. It’s has been rumored that it was a self portrait of Leonardo Da Vinci but it’s also been said that she is a lover of his. A documentary has been done surrounding the piece if you are interested in watching it I can try and find it for you. I was an art history major so I love talking about art. Love all the pieces you and mom picked up.
Just an observation, the price for the Regency painting is in pounds £ which is the english currency. The euro sign is € which doesn't apply to every country in Europe but most of it. ☺️
Greetings again from Waterford, Ireland 🇮🇪 Delighted to see all of the Waterford Crystal at the Estate sale. Love going on trips with you and your Mom 🥰
There’s another TH-camr Lady Marybeth who used to work at Waterford and thrifts in and around Houston TX. She’s a fountain of knowledge for all thrifters.
I started burning up the estate sales after I saw your videos. You are right, it’s always older folks attending them! I even take my 5 year old, he loves exploring with me.
Hanging those 2 portraits on either side of the entry to the kitchen/living is such a good idea. I think it adds so much character and subtle grand feeling.
as I am watching this I just chuckle because I think it is hilarious how MaCenna does not want Family portraits on her wall but she will hang Random portraits of people around the house! I would rather know the person who is staring at me! lol
Love the Kinsley trinket box. It looks just like her! I would have loved to go to that estate sale. The woman had brilliant taste. I’m so happy for you, you found so many amazing pieces. ❤
Macenna, the religious picture that you purchased with the intricate frame is a beautiful painting of Mary, Mother of Jesus. If you made that available to someone I would imagine they would take it off your hands rather than it being discarded. You found an amazing estate sale-wow the art was beautiful!!
Look at the angels flying around her in the beginning - I knew something was different when I seen that... then I saw the image and I was like ...AHHH.. makes sense.
I want to say I love the relationship you have with your mom . My mom and I both love antiques but we don’t have a good relationship so I go alone . You guys are so cute ☺️
OMG! I didn’t know you grew up in Houston! I work two blocks from High Fashion Home on Elgin and Fannin. And been to the fabric store across the street! I’ve bought my living room couch, silk pillows and a painting from that store. What a coincidence! I live near U/H Central! Also lived in Baton Rouge. Love, love, love your channel and your Mom!
Yay I'm so happy you're back!! I missed your videos so much! They are the only ones I actually look for and think "oh it's Tuesday, that means a new video!" I'm so so glad you gave yourself a couple weeks off though! When I was pregnant with my first I felt AWESOME in my second trimester. I got so much done! I'm not on Instagram or TikTok, so I would still love to hear some pregnancy/mom stuff on these channels, but I understand wanting to split them up a bit. I'm hoping your vlogs will kind of encompass everything since they're a little more casual.
16:16 Shadowboxes are great for baby rooms because you can put pair of choose their 1st item from the hospital schedule Box pitcher frames are great for baby
FYI the floral plates you bought are all chintzware, very collectible and pricey depending where you come across them. Been around for many decades, Queen Victoria helped to make the first pieces made popular, so the frenzy started and went home for many decades. Good eye, I once had a chintz teapot that I sold on line for $599.00. Great estate sale, good for you and your mom being first in! ,
Really enjoyed this vlog!! I wish my mom and I had the relationship that you and your mom have. XO It is so special and precious. You are creating and documenting so many wonderful memories. I can't believe how beautiful that estate sale was. Incredible items! Love the purple velvet chair and the intricate, bulky frames! Really beautiful home. I wonder if the owner had a personal or professional association to the Wizard of Oz. Velvet brown fabric is going to be so nice on your chairs.
Oh wow I had that pop up book as a kid. Fran the lady who illustrated it was a mum at my infant school in south England went for play dates at her house lovely and very talented lady! Cannot believe it’s over in the US too !
Great buys. The £ is British pounds (pounds sterling). A Euro is like an E (€). If it says which auction house it was sold by you can probably find it in the catalogue.
I think your beautiful lady portrait should go in where your vanity is going in the primary suite. Having her company and inspiration while you do your self care and beauty routine would be so lovely
Girl! That oil painting is not just vintage, it's a legit Antique!!! With provenance! Keep the receipts! What a lovely thing!!! She reminds me of Alexandra Gater a bit...?! xD
Tell your mom those chairs she got are a steal , no matter how much she paid for them. I have reupholstered two and a couch up my way, and got paid a pretty good penny, I must say to reupholster them so she got some in Great shape.
Love the coffee table! Love the painting of the lady with paper work! Plates are beautiful! So love your moms chairs! So glad you are going to make it a priority to see Robbie! If I was not in another country my nephews and niece would see me more! I really miss them my nephews are 18 at the end of the month..I really miss them Texas is so far fromAustralia!
I do miss the old High Fashion when it was 4 floors of 90% fabric. 😕 I always knew i could find what I wanted for my clients there. Love all the goodies from the estate sale and congrats on the "find" on the portrait!
Love the sneak peek to the estate sale! Those chairs...and your woman!! ❤ I have to tell you... at about 1:04-1:05 of the video, you are talking in your kitchen and an orb can be seen from the roof and it shoots to the right... your left. 😮 I guess it's expected with such a beautiful old house and vintage items. That was cool! Love your videos😊
Since you love thrifting so much, would you ever consider doing a road trip across the US, hitting up thrift shops & just looking at things? Of course after the house is done, but before kids? I think it'd be interesting to see the different styles - I feel like Texas has a lot of the french provincial style available & whatnot, etc.
Good afternoon MaCenna..nice way to end my day watching my favorite..I love your estate sale finds.. perfect place for those two pictures on each side of kitchen entrance wall.
Didn’t know you grew up in Houston. I’m a Houston native. Grew up in Pasadena. Well if you are near Seabrook/galveston. Come to the keels and wheels event it’s open to the public. Y’all have a safe drive back. Love the Kinsley trinket so precious. 🤍
This video was so fun to watch because I currently live in the town you grew up in! I used to work across the street from High Fashion Home. My husband and I recently purchased land in the hill country and are going to build in about 2 years. I love Comfort, TX and we will be about 20 minutes from there. I'm definitely going to look up that estate sale group you talked about. Wish I could have stood in line with y'all at that amazing estate sale outside of San Antonio!!
Oh wow if I could find an estate sale like that one😯 I would have had to take out a loan and then rent a small u haul😄 And all those designer bags and clothes on top of all the gorgeous antiques and beautiful things... Goodness!! And yes those portraits will look great where you're planning to hand them! And love the one you got with the paper work in the back, she's gorge❤
I love the chair's! They're going to be beautiful recovered, I can't wait to see them. ❤❤❤ thoughts of your little one's. Great art buy's. I really like the placement of the antique people. I'm always so happy when you post a new video.
When you started talking about the fabric store I KNEW you were going to High Fashion! Funny story, that home store used to be a mortgage company and I worked there for six years. When our company was bought out and closed it became High Fashion. I have several pieces from there and it was always funny to me to be there to shop and think “my office used to be right here”.
Could you do a vlog or video explaining the logistics of estate sales? Like how to locate them in advance (do you google “estate sales near me”?? hasn’t turned up much for me), how to determine which ones are worth going to, how to actually purchase items while there (like obviously you don’t haul around a set of chairs after selecting them- do you go up to someone working the sale to “reserve” stuff?), etc. Thank you for your wonderful videos!
I love watching every one of your videos - such an inspiration. But I have to tell you I got so excited when you and your Momma went to In & Out! I lived in Riverside, CA for 30 years and recently moved back home to New England. I miss so much THE BEST BURGER on the planet! I'll enjoy virtually through you 🥰
The painting of wallabies is exactly like the countryside in Queensland. I live in a suburb but I have kangaroo in the reserve across from my house. Often see them on my way home and have roo poo on my lawn. I love it.
MaCenna - I was wondering in the beginning of your video did you notice all the angels around you. Then it made sense after watching your video - The chunky image you have is of the Blessed Virgin Mary and she is Queen of the Angels. I love Mary - I have a great devotion to her. I knew something was different when I seen the beginning of your video. You found a gem!
I'm so glad you reminded us cos I forgot to comment on other video- I vote no brass on coffee table! Just add it via accents🖤 tbh it feels like a cheap addition if you will. I feel like you know it doesn't need it lol. It's not even that it would necessarily "look bad" if you did it but it jus feels unnecessary ya know? So happy you found a coffee table that does this soace justice! It looks aaaaamazing. Can't wait to see the chairs that are meant for the space! XX
Yes I have lots of the wizard of oz because my father was a sound engineer for the studios and he worked on the movie. We have lots of stories of the old movies that are fun to think of.
Hi Macenna love your post fab finds, but before you take your chairs for recovering please look at the little brass casters for a makers name, I’m think they could mayb made by a company called Howard which are worth a lot of money and if they are you could lose there history and historical value very sort after maker . Love your work you are an amazing inspiration to me . Thanks Dot uk.xx
A friend and I drove to Del Rio to visit her parents. Our route took us through Houston. These two NC country gals were not prepared for the 5 pm Houston traffic.
MaCenna, Los Angeles has a fabric outlet center for fabric, notions, lace, and zippers etc....it is by the bridal district....it is like a massive flea market.... just an fyi is you still want to look for yourself...have fun...love your videos...
That first summer painting is insanely beautiful! Thank you for introducing me to the artist Olga Suvorova. My favorite haul of yours. Sooo excited for you to decorate.
That MAY be the provenance for that painting. If you can find the seller/gallery the owner got it from you need to do that. In the event you ever sell it you’ll need that. Depending on who it is in that painting it could be valued way more than $1500. Could even fund your LA kitchen Reno 👀
So many nice things you and mom found!!!The chairs are going to be beautiful when you get them done. The wall paper you saw in the fabric store do you have a place in the cottage you could use something like that?
Awesome haul, Macenna! I loved everything! I have a 70 year old portrait painting of my grandma and aunt, and it sits in a vintage ornate plaster frame. It's hanging in my living room, and I've considered swaping out the frame for something more contemporary, However, after your video today, I am going to lean into this style of frame and find others to compliment it. Thank you!
Does anyone else feel like we NEED to see her prom dresses!?!?
Yes!!! McKenna, that'd be really fun! Prom dress show & tell! 💗
Was just going to comment. Show the prom dress.
YES! totally came to comment that. 😂
Yes please.
YES!

PS: your mom’s chairs are stunning. The purple velvet was 🥰 everything!
Agreed! She seems like such an interesting woman... The stories she could have told!

I was convinced that you had forgotten all about those chairs! They are sooo great, I love them!!!
Yes I have lots of the wizard of oz because my father was a sound engineer for the studios and he worked on the movie. We have lots of stories of the old movies that are fun to think of.
That was a beautiful home, so many great paintings. The bed with the toile headboard was gorgeous
Hi Macenna love your post fab finds, but before you take your chairs for recovering please look at the little brass casters for a makers name,
I’m think they could mayb made by a company called Howard which are worth a lot of money and if they are you could lose there history and historical value very sort after maker .
Love your work you are an amazing inspiration to me . Thanks Dot uk.xx
A friend and I drove to Del Rio to visit her parents. Our route took us through Houston. These two NC country gals were not prepared for the 5 pm Houston traffic.
Those two chairs are gorgeous !! Such a fun estate sale..
After watching all your estate sale shopping videos I want to go to estate sales 🥰
That painting was a treasure find. Some days you just get lucky!
I'm moving in my first appartement and i feel soooo inspired because of you
MaCenna, Los Angeles has a fabric outlet center for fabric, notions, lace, and zippers etc....it is by the bridal district....it is like a massive flea market.... just an fyi is you still want to look for yourself...have fun...love your videos...
She had great taste. Her purses and luggage and clothes are amazing…
I feel like that lady was my soul sister 😂❤
It's always the best moment of my week when i get my youtube notification !!!
That first summer painting is insanely beautiful! Thank you for introducing me to the artist Olga Suvorova.
My favorite haul of yours. Sooo excited for you to decorate.
I know! I would love to have been able to afford that particular painting... So beautiful! ❣
Yay, these videos are apart of my weekly routine and they make me so happy! ❤
Because of you and your mom, my husband, kids and I love going to estate sales in our area. We are just outside Austin. ❤
LOVE the brass trim for the coffee table ❤
The opening between the kitchen and living room, imagine if you hung a Beautiful vintage garland at Christmas….omg 🥰😱❤️
So early!! Love when you hang out with your momma!!
Thank you!
I gasped & giggled at the “city pups” pillow moment because I actually own it 😅
I think the frames would look better together. Maybe stacked or one on each wall on that corner.
Loved everything you got! The Woman's portrait is gorgeous!
