Music by Nino Rota, Italian "Maestro".
Nino ROTA, the author of this music, was born in 1911, Milano, Italy.
He is one of the most prolific composer of all time (he was very successful also in music for theater and ballet). He worked for Federico Fellini (1 Oscar, 12 Nominations) and Luchino Visconti (Palma d'oro for The Gattopardo).
He won an Oscar for Godfather 2, not for this soundtrack, because it was partially already used for another movie, 'Fortunella'.
He won many others prize: BAFTA, Grammy Awards, Golden Globe, David di Donatello etc.
The instrument you could not identify is a melodica.
"The melodica is a handheld free-reed instrument similar to a pump organ or harmonica. It features a musical keyboard on top, and is played by blowing air through a mouthpiece that fits into a hole in the side of the instrument. The keyboard usually covers two or three octaves. Melodicas are small, lightweight, and portable, and many are designed for children to play. They are popular in music education programs, especially in Asia. The modern form of the instrument was invented by Hohner in the late 1950s, though similar instruments have been known in Italy since the 19th century." - from Wikipedia.
And he plays something on the drum at the same time with his free hand.

That instrument is called diamonica in Italy. However, I would like to congratulate the Sound Engineer, because I hear ohni little particle, every little breath or touch of every single instrument. The acoustics of this Auditorium must be phenomenal. I really think I'll go there sooner or later. It's not that far from Italy.
The concert hall acoustics was designed by the world famous Japanese, Yasuhisa Toyota. It is the main concert hall of DR, first Danish national radio-& TV station.
The concert building itself, was designed by Pritzker Prize winner Jean Nouvel.

Another great pease is “Once Upon A Time In The West” It gets even better when you have seen the movie first. This is realy “ear candy"
I have been lucky enough to attend four of these theme concerts, one of them being " Murder in the symphony" where this was played. In fact I sat less than a meter from the trumpeteer in the very start of this medley, he stood right beside me. That concert was probably the best I have ever attended. That and "Galaxymphony" and I can't wait to attend more of these. But one has to be quick to secure tickets, these concerts are highly popular. I am glad you enjoy this as much as you do, it is a pleasure to watch. Thank you for a fine reaction.

Funny you mention cartoons music. In June 2022 this orchestra actually performed a concert with only cartoons music. From Bugs Bunny, Tom&Jerry and more modern animated movies like UP. I guess they will upload at some point, cause it's really funny! So keep an eye on their channel.

I agree. I don't like the premise of The Godfather but I love the music, and cars and suits.
The reason you don't see yourself enjoying an opera is because you do not know the storyline and the drama being told.
It is every second as dramatic as this, but these music themes you can relate to, because you know the story and the setting.
Maybe the biggest accomplishment they made, was reaching a much broader audience.
Top quality classical music for the masses.
