This class was so good it almost makes me want to go back to church. I could really feel the Holy Ghost move me, especially at the part about the monster.
My jaw dropped when the connection was made between the Genesis creation accounts and the even older mythology surrounding cosmic battle between Yahweh and the waters or the sea monster Rahab/Leviathan. Thanks for bringing us the good stuff RFM - and for having the scholastic integrity to properly attribute ideas to their creators. Pete Enn's full article was a great read.
Interesting to see how YHWH effects the water of the seas. Also neat to think about how HE correlates to Earths gravity. There’s so much to learn about how water is important in the scriptures!
Lately Sunday school, at church, doesn’t even discuss the verses as a whole or a story. They only cherry pick one or two versus to discuss a theme. The manuals try to skirt any real discussion of the actual material.
I’ve been faithfully attending your classes. Great stuff! I would like to request that you choose brighter colors for the font on the slides. White on dark blue shows up great. Not so much for red on dark blue, or some other color. Thank you!!
So fascinating! I appreciate your ability to make things make sense to me. Thank you RFM! I will be attending a lecture tour this summer. The theme being how water in all its forms plays an important role in the Bible and NT narrative. I’ve just been given a jump start by you on the subject! I feel smarter already! 😇👏🫶
Big R, a monster of a job here. You know I attended five graduate schools, and I only had one professor that taught any better that you have done here today. Again, my friend, nicely researched and nicely done! Are you going to St. George? I'll be there. Barr
Fascinating exposition, RFM! I need to listen again with your closing question in mind about whether "Jacob" is consciously tuning in to the Rahab/Tiamat/battling the death-monster myth. Let me just point out, though, that Tiamat is female. Rahab in Exodus is a Canaanite harlot. I'm not sure if Rahab the sea monster is male or female. (Maybe S/He is nonbinary. ) 🙂
Okay, so I am not LDS so I have a few questions because I am a bit confused! So what time period did these folks travel to the Americas? Were they Jews? How would they have traveled there? Because I’m thinking that the ships at that time were too small and not strong enough to cross many seas???
600 BC. Jews heavily influenced by Egyptian By a boat they built themselves Is the story actual real history? It is a story that requires faith as does much of Mormonism.
About 33 minutes in you mention racist parts of the BOM, I had forgotten that besides the racism of “[cursed] skin” from 2 Nephi 5:21; in 1 Nephi 11:13, Mary is “exceedingly fair and white”. Here’s looking at you FAIR.
Fantastic insights! So enjoyed this episode!!
Radio, you are the monster eating their Sunday school lunch. Good job, once again.

Great episode. Thanks!
Our pleasure!
Rahab needs to go to Rehab...
Great Episode again RFM!
Thanks!
Really neat how it ties into ancient world mythology. Great job.
So fascinating!

Great episode. I really like the idea of reading the BOM through the lens of scholarship and also through a more critical lens.

I’m loving RFM Sunday School
These episodes are amazing.
RFM.....Love the new thumbnail 😀
Amazing how many words we are forced to skip over (Rahab/monster) because no one at church is qualified to explain it.
Love, love, these episodes. Keep ‘em coming.
Thank you. I had no idea what I was missing. 😊
You’re welcome 😊
Fantastic, very enlightening. Thank you
The best modern metaphor of Joseph Smith’s shenanigans can be found in “The Invention of Lying.”
Excellent!!
Thank you RFM! That is very interesting!! I definitely read it at surface level until now.
Wonderful!
Bravo, Brother RFM!
Loving this series!!! Thanks RFM...

Joseph's Myth plagiarized words and phrases from the New Testament throughout his 19th-century fictional novel.
