When I first got into handguns my friends gave me a few floppy holsters; no charge. After about a minute and a half I found out why they gave them to me. Very unsafe and unusable. Because I throw nothing away, I converted them, using strong twine and a needle, to magazine carriers. Love your videos.

I think many of us are guilty of purchasing a floppy holster in the beginning ... and never end up using it because they are just not safe (certainly not with one in the chamber). I would NEVER gift one to a friend however, just because it's collecting dust in my closet ... if said friend had an accident with it, I would never forgive myself. Teach your friends proper firearm safety if you care about them.

Nice effort Friends. Enjoyment and Instruction of topic, what is, in most cases, is difficult to stay awake. I am always amazed at your attention to detail. Good seeing you again.

The one position you skipped over was 2 o'clock.
I carry in an IWB holster with 2 clips, with the front clip right on the first belt loop and the back clip on the second. It puts the gun right behind my front pocket. My holsters are set up to carry a little deeper into my waistband and with a forward cant so it point outside my legs instead of between.
I agreed that 3 sticks out and it harder to conceal. 1is not a good choice for me because it is harder to draw safely without flagging yourself. If you are seated in a vehicle or crouched behind cover, it is not safe to draw. 4 is just the slowest draw for me to carry and if I'm going hands on, it is more exposed for someone to come up from behind and disarm me while I am engaging with someone.
I have done a little competition shooting and I decided to test which way was the fastest for me personally. So I got out my shot timer after practicing each position for some time, I checked which one I would be faster. 4 lost by a lot, appendix was next to last, 2 was the fastest by the narrowest margin over 3. It is noteworthy that the 1-3 were all very close with less than a 10th of a second difference from highest to lowest. If one was better at everything else, time wouldn't be the deciding factor.
Your mileage may vary, I'd recommend everyone check it themselves.

I think for me if I could only choose one way to carry, it would probably be the 3:30-4:00 position, just because it’s a easier learning curve imo. I just switched to appendix. I like it better but, its definitely a learning curve regarding holster and placement.

Them things are hard and huge! Except the red one. For conceal carry? Safety tip, as I'm sure you know, for the soft ones, don't re-holster with it on, take the holster off, re-holster and then put it back on or in your pocket. Neil and Kim, thanks so much for doing the video. I have been carrying for some 3yrs now, and have had much difficulty in finding the right holster. I have decided that OWB is the way for me. Although I am not opposed to a good IWB holster. But your video opened my eyes to a few things I had not considered. There are literally thousands of holster companies making holsters. I do not exaggerate. And finding one that fits is tough. Your vid has given me a new perspective and some new ideas to work with. Thanks a bunch.

As a new gun owner last year I'm in the experimental phase with a lot of time spent at the range. I have a CHL here in Oregon, and know that you can never have too much training when you carry a lethal weapon out on the street. Your videos are invaluable for information and presentation. Thanks for this latest as it's very timely for me as I've recently gone through about six holsters. So far Vedder is my preferred manufacturer for both my S&W M&P 2.0 9mm full size and my latest purchase, a Shield Plus. FYI, I am sending my Vedder Comfort Tuck for the Shield back as I found the full leather back hits the mag release and pops the mag out when I tighten my belt. Vedder customer service is excellent and they're going to exchange it for their Combat Cut to see if that alleviates the problem. Thanks again!

A couple of things that come to mind, every salesman that I have talked to has failed to mention that you generally need to buy one size larger pants to comfortably carry IWB, especially the total conceal ones for appendix carry. Those are almost impossible to draw if seated as the holster is folded around the belt and won't come out easily for the draw. I am like almost everybody in that over time I have accumulated a box full of different holsters due to changing firearms, my physical changes i.e. fatter and the seasonal opportunities offered by cold weather.

I own the IWB from Glock. But it no longer works because of my Red Dot. So, carefully studying it, I realized I could cut out a section so the red dot would fit. With a high-speed cut-off wheel and a dermal with carbide aluminum bit, it was so simple to do, and it looks great, the IWB works just like it did before. I am very pleased not to have to buy one more holster. Lol

The Small of your back carry, which you are against.... the way that you show is reverse configuration(and I'm against that) it isn't the only way to carry . My pref is outside the waistband, canted(how much is up to you) towards your gun hand. In the same orientation as you would carry on your hip(a photo would be worth a thousand words here). Right handed using a Right hand holster.
I live in the Great White North and have never fallen directly on my back.... it does and can happen but it isn't all that common. And now that I've said that it will probably happen tomorrow LoL.

Great video, and I love the different perspectives on holsters and carry positions. One thing I find amusing however..."cant position". Neil seems to think that canting the gun handle forward "15 degrees" somehow slows down bringing the muzzle forward after clearing the holster...and that's true, technically. However, if you're going to get that "nit picky" about "saving time" , then you must factor in the fact that your hand gets to the canted handle of the gun faster if it's canted forward than it does if not canted forward...and worn "correctly", straight up and down, as Neil likes. Therefore...technically speaking...there should be no difference in placing the muzzle into firing position and getting off the first shot....whichever "cant or no cant" position you prefer.
This may...or may not...be true. You should check with CNN to be sure. lol

any recommendations for a wheelchair user? right now I carry on my weak side and cross draw to my strong side. example left handed holster on my right side drawing cross body. I've got a box filled with holsters and I keep thinking a belly band or a sneaky pete holster would be best for me

A belly band is a much better option. Thanks for watching and commenting

I've done fanny pack carry since 1997 when I hurt my back. Shoulder holster carry on and off since 92.

Neil and Kim, good information! Also love that you guys think about contrast when doing your videos ... the blue mats on the table make a world of difference. So many YT'ers will have black items on a black background.

for me I have 2 different holsters for my Shield and one for my Beretta. I have Alien gear for my Beretta for IWB and OWB as well as for my Shield. During the winter I always carry OWB for both. My Beretta I usually cannot carry IWB during the summer because it's to big. Also for me, i carry better appendix than on the 3 o'clock position

Thank you so much for the video. It was most informative. I am relatively new to CCW. I am slowly developing that bag of “stuff.”

Why no all leather IWB holsters like Don Hume or the Summer Special by Milt Sparks?

There are nice ones, I just don't prefer them. But I know a lot of people who do. Thanks for watching and commenting

Good presentation. I am a retired LEO and use A Tulster iwb most often for my every day carry ( M & P Shield). I would like to purchase a comfortable
own holster with maximum concealment. I have tried Alien Gear
but looking for something better and easier to put on / take off. Any thoughts / recommendations would be appreciated. Thank you.

Try out vedder holsters. I swear by them, I’ve had mine for about a year now and it works flawlessly. Add some lock tight to your retention screw to get the best results from the holster.

Just bought my first pistol for concealed carry. This has been the best video I've found about holsters.

Great video but she should be testing these holsters on herself as well for a woman’s perspective!

Kim, I need more videos from you. You contents are very informative & clear. Please do more videos without having to wear a belt. I hate belts!
