THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS! The Fluidmaster in our guest bathroom decided to keep running with the tank full. Guess we don't use it often enough. After rwatching your video, I was able to get the cap off without breaking anything, and cleaned the valve seal with a tissue. I somehow managed to get it reassembled without breaking anything, and.... it works!! No trips to Ace Hardware! No major plumbing fracus. My wife is happy! Thank you.
Thank you! Cost me less than $2.00 for the new valve. I am a older female that has very little skills or background in repairs for my home. With the help of these You Tube videos, I was able to stop 2 running toliets. One only needed the flapper replaced and the second, a new valve seal. Thank you again!
Made it very straightforward for me to replace the valve seals on my three toilets throughout the home all within about 15-minutes from start to finish thanks to these easy-to-follow instructions !
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Enabled me to troubleshoot and find debris from a failed shutoff valve. Without your video I would have just replaced the whole fill valve.
I can’t thank you enough for posting this!! I wish I could like this video more than once. Turns out my valve seal was fine. I live in a semi rural area and use a well. There was just a BUNCH of debris in the slots at the top of the fill tube. I cleaned the debris out, checked the water flow, and everything was great after the debris was removed. I hate trying to fix things, but this video was PERFECT. It was clear and easy to follow. Thank you again. 😊👍🏾
Trip to a big box store and this video helped me to keep my dad/husband card for one more repair. I was dealing with a tank that would not fill back up after flushing. During my repair, the top of the float screw would not come off of the valve arm, so I just took the bottom off instead and everything else worked as shown. Thank you sir!
This video was excellent. He explains each step clearly, and demonstrates them all; including several tips which really helped. I had the change out done in about 3 minutes. Other videos left out steps, but his are thorough.

Thanks for the video. Made replacing the valve straightforward. However, after two months it started leaking again. Even with the float fully submerged it didn't generate enough buoyant force to quite snap the valve shut. Solved it by cutting a one inch slice off a hollow pool noodle and slitting one side. Then I slipped it under the float around the pipe and with the extra buoyancy the float now causes the valve to snap shut promptly when the tank is full. Cost :$0, Time: 5 min
@@HacksbyDad Actually finally I found it is the piece of round rubber acting as the seal. After adding a O-ring on the back, it gets enough pressure to seal the water ...... Cost me 10 cents🤣👋
Thanks so much for the video. Definitely made the toilet better, but still dripping a little from the refill tube and I can hear that water flowing faintly. Any ideas what i should try next or give in and replace the whole fill valve?
Thank you very much for making this video. I was close to removing the entire toilet from its base since I have no room to access the back to replace the fill valve assembly. I was at wits' end and trying as a last resort to see if there's a way to fix the issue without having to replace the whole thing. Then came across your video. Problem solved.😊
Our valve didn't keep running, it just slowed down to a trickle taking 30 minutes to fill. I took it apart and cleaned it but no luck. After buying and replacing this little valve seal it works like new. Crazy to think that all these years I have been replacing the whole thing every time it malfunctioned. I still don't understand why the new one worked and the old one didn't. They both look exactly the same, no wear or broken parts on the old one. It's a little more stiff is all.
Thx for the post. Mine keeps running and make a really high pitched squeal. I could stop it by pressing down on the top of the fill valve but as soon as i release, starts squealing again. I shut the water off and it stops. Gonna replace the seal tomorrow.
They also sell the whole valve cap assembly, which includes the seal. It was only about 1 dollar more than the valve seal when I bought one. It was very easy to replace the whole thing.
Thanks for the great video. I have a question - is the arm supposed to move the black seal in and out of the white plastic casing , like at 1:10 ? Looks like when the arm moves to the close position (when tank is full), all that happens is that the stem/pin gets pushed further through the middle of the valve, but this doesn't stop the water flow. Is the stem supposed to move freely through the center of the black valve?, or should it be snug and actually move the black seal up and down ? Thanks
Very helpful video. The only thing I would add is to turn the water valve back completely on after changing the seal. I tried only turning it a bit to make sure it worked, but the water pressure must not have been enough to make a good seal, because it just ran and ran with the water on only a little.
Attention: if you have an American Standard fill valve model 0925A (blue top) it was made by Fluidmaster and takes the same washer. To confirm, just look at the top of the black float for the Fluidmaster brand and model number (400). If you have an older valve you won't be able to disconnect the float rod but you can follow the same twist-and-remove instructions to get to the washer.
So I took it apart and clean off a lot of gank off the seal, however the water is still leaking from the top, the seal looks to be in good condition, how do I know it is the seal's fault? How can you tell a seal if failing
Is it a constant leak? It should only release a little bit of water when the toilet is flushed. This video explains the operation of the fill valve and shows the release of water... th-cam.com/video/twynH8xVdy8/w-d-xo.html
I used new seal valve from HD and Kohler and doesn’t work. Valve seal is different. Doesn’t even seal like it should. The old one works but after every flush it has to be reset.
Great video; thanks! (Could have saved $8 on the whole repair kit, have I found it earlier. 😉) One question though... looks like in my case, the pin just goes through the seal, without pushing it down. To me this looks like an awful weakness in this construction, bound to happen sooner than later. Or am I missing something?
@@HacksbyDad Wow... what can I say? You are THE MAN! Thanks for this video - I had no idea about the complexity & ingenuity that went into this simple-looking device. @@HacksbyDad Thanks again! Based on what I've learned, it seems that because of some debris or the wear of the seal, it could no longer slide down to close the valve. Next time this happens, I will know I probably don't have to replace the whole fill valve.
@@HacksbyDad Update - I went ahead and cleaned the seal & its area in the "broken" Fluidmaster, and what do you know; it did fix the problem!
