@@HacksbyDad absolutely my friend. When my toilet started whistling I thought I was going to have to call a priest in for an exorcism, or at the very least I would have to replace the whole float valve. Your video helped me to solve the problem in 5 minutes for less than 4 dollars.

Thats so awesome im going to attempt this tmrw. My toilet isnt whistling but after watching another video and this one i am wondering if doing this will fix my problem. Give me confidence to try this myself after reading that you were able to fix yours. He did gice great instruction. I feel so accomplished when im able to fix something myself. I mean i guess if i screw up or it doesnt work then we can call the plummer. Mine making that running sound.

great video. I just cleaned the seal and everything else with an old toothbrush, put back together and noise was gone. Saved a trip to Home Depot.

I tried that first, and it didn't work for me longer than 1 flush.
I ended up getting the $3.84 replacement exactly as shown here. While it didn't look bad, especially after cleaning, I guess the old seal's rubber was too worn / dimpled.
Thanks! I recently watched a video telling me to replace the entire unit as it was too much work to open it up and replace the valve. You just saved me about $40 Canadian.

Our fill valve assembly didn't look or work exactly like the one in this video, but these instructions still guided us through the seal replacement perfectly! The squeal is gone and, rather than paying a plumber who knows how much, we paid $1.50 + tax for the replacement seal. Thanks, Hacks by Dad, we are big fans!!

Before this video, I took removed the fill valve top and found the seal. My hunch to me to clean any build up. It seemed to have helped the squealing a little but not totally fix it.
This video confirmed that I could just buy and change the seal.

+1. This worked exactly as shown. $3.84 part from Lowes, exactly as shown at 1:09: Fluidmaster 242.
It probably helps that mine was exactly the same Fluidmaster 400 fill valve.
FYI: mine was whistling while filling, not right when the valve closes.
I first tried just taking it off and rinsing it out as shown at 0:42, but that only worked for 1 refill for some reason.
I replaced the valve seal and so far it's fixed. The old one didn't look bad but I guess the rubber was "dimpled" too much.

Spot on with the answer straight to to point 10-15m fix job done this is the best video on TH-cam. Simply change the diaphragm washer. Not change all the system, add pressure valves, reduce your mains pressure

Great video. The water where I live is very hard water and build up happens a lot I just wasn't sure how to get it cleaned out. All the other videos say to change the entire part not just the one piece and how to get to it. I just opened it up saw how clogged and covered it was. Clean it up and no more noise. Thank you.

Great video. In a pinch you can just clean the old valve with vinegar and a brush and then apply a light coat of wd 40 or any other lubrication and it will silence that sucker right up.

Just followed your directions. Turned off the valve, took off the cap, turned on the water a little bit to flush out the system, some debris did come out, and just for shits and giggles, I took the almost new looking rubber part out then flushed out the top of the cap and the rubber piece in my sink. Put it all back together and no more squeaking after the toilet was finished filling up! Thanks for all your help!

Thank you for this video, I didn’t know what was causing the whistle, so I checked Google and chose your video, which was easy to follow! I was scared I was going to break something though. I didn’t replace the little thingy I just cleaned it really well and all around where the water comes in, with an old toothbrush and a couple drops of Dawn dish soap and replaced everything and the whistle is gone. Maybe this will work if someone can’t get a new part right away. Thanks again!
Now if I can figure out how to fix our stackable washer that won’t spin (and landlord won’t fix).
