Thank you for the info... I just bought an Evo 8 with a dodgy AYC pump (I knew this when purchasing) so I've purchased a mint condition one... I might pull my other one apart and rebuild it as a spare.
Good job roman. I have evo x rs, don t have ayc , only acd and rearmecanical lsdThe pump have only one solenoid... one question...my car don t lock front and rear axle... is acd fail? Thanks
Actually my AYC Pump failed because of the rubber that surrounds the cable for the motor. Water gets through it and corrode it inside out. Got some pics if ye like. Ordered another pump from the USA n rebuild mine. Bleed it with a self build cable construction xD.. Works still very good a year after
Nice explanation but i got 1 question if i decide not to buy or replace pump and end up removing my ayc pump completely off the car and block the lines will i be able to drive around like normal with out any issues? will it cause any damage to the rear diff? or any other damage to any particular part of car?
Had mine rebuilt by Harry hockley Motorsport they did an excellent job of it, although a year later and the motor has gone, unrelated 🙄 might try getting it rewound
Dumb question, but reading the other comments. I have a dead TPMS. My AYC fluid is full in the reservoir.. I have a 'service AWD' light on the dash, but it doesn't come on until I put the car in gear and start driving. Before I put the car in gear, I can switch between tarmac, snow, and gravel. Could my 'service AWD' light simply be because of my TPMS warning and not my actual pump?
Your pump is probably fine. When the ignition is swtiched the pump does a pressure test, if target pressure is not hit within 7 seconds the light comes on. If the lights coming on only when you start driving you have an abs sensor issue, mismatched tyres, mismatched tyre pressure or tpms issues causing it
@@rowanlewisuk Disabled TPMS via etacs. Ran the car for 3 minutes or so, no service light warning. Backed it up and starting to go down the road 'service AWD'. But in etacs it shows AWD/AWC as 'not present' not sure if you've messed with etacs or not, but I found that odd. Couldn't find anything online about it. Don't want to change it to 'present' and have it mess something up.
On the video it appeared as though you have been running the car without the pump (Glove covering pipes). Is this OK? My question is, what happens if you havent bleed the system of air and only a portion of the correct amount of oil has been put into the system? Is this the same as running the vehicle without the pump at all?
The system does a pressure test when the car turns on. If t can’t hit a certain pressure within 7 seconds it switches off and puts the light off. I bought the car with the gloves on it, it’s no different to it running with the pump unplugged. Mechanically it won’t damage it, it just doesn’t handle the same. The ayc opens the clutch so when it’s not working the rear wheels stay clamped like a normal awd system. It must be bled properly or it won’t build pressure. It’s like a brake line it’s a one way line and will never bleed itself without doing it manually
Another option is to go for an RS set up, unfortunately it's not a simple or cheap job (surprise surprise) as the rear subframe is different from the AYC one. The plus sides are the RS diff will take a lot more power going through it & you've future proofed your car.....in theory.
Nothing is simple or cheap with an evo is it lol. After having my AYC fixed today I wouldn't change it for the world. Maybe it gets old but for me the best part of an evo is the AYC 😊
@@rowanlewisuk i ran the actuator test using mut3, and i can hear it "clicking" , just the motor is not running. Thanks for the videos . Can't wait for the next videos.
@@HadiHamzah83 OK well maybe it doesn't need to kick in. Because the motor only runs to pressurise the accumulator. Mine only comes on for a second or so every now and then. Can usually hear it when trying to start the car. If the pressure switch is reading good pressure stored in accumulator then the motor won't kick in because it just tops up the pressure. It barely comes on at all a second or two every few days
You can unplug the motor connector and give it 12v and ground see if you can hear it. Don't run it for long maybe couple seconds. If the motor is itself is dead that can be rebuilt too
Awesome explanation! I’m nowvmuch more confident to buy an Evo, knowing the cost to fix isn’t bad

Hi, Rowan. I really like your vedios about repair evolution x. do you know the part# for AYC pump?

Never heard of that one before! Fortunately mine was rebuildable I have just been testing it out as you'll see in future videos 😊
Can you seal that gap with caulking or something so water will never get in?

L.W.A Latinos-with-attitude it wont cause damage it just wont handle as good. Cover the pipes to stop rubbish going in them when the pumps off
@@rowanlewisuk nice good to know that thanks for the info 👍
Maybe it would be a good idea idea to try and protect the pump in some way with a cover if you have rebuilt it or its in good condition.
Good idea. Alot of people relocate. My car is in a garage all year so I didn't bother relocating it
Good helpful advice

Congrats my friend and kind regards from Hellas Greece island Cyprus.. I have Evo IX (9), is the same.?
Great! Very useful information thanks👏👏👏
Thanks glad it helped
Any chance for a proper way to clean the MAF and throttle body? I assume it would be the same on the Evo as a Ralliart? Nice videos by the way.
What happens if u dont fix it?

Is this what throws the service four wheel drive light?
ItsJustDutch yeah

ItsJustDutch yeah that will do it. Lots of things will
