Thank you dear for your encouraging messages telling us what was never disclosed before in the walk to register as a nurse in UK. In Uganda blue was my uniform to study and white when qualified. Here more colours are used, nursing assistants blue, pick enrolled nurses, green and blue in theaters extra.

The UK nursing uniforms look like the US Housekeeping uniforms. In the US almost everyone wears scrubs but the colors differentiate the department. Doctors PA's, and NP's rarely wear scrubs but they almost always wear the white coats

In the UK, it's very difficult to spot a nurse or doctor, as all staff - orderlies, nurses, doctors - are dressed in designer bin-bags. This is a politically correct rejection of tradition on the part of management (preferring high fives instead of a handshake). There's something comforting about a nurse who looks like a nurse and a doctor who looks like a doctor. And a nurse in a dress, especially, as it visually confirms her feminine role as carer.

I'm a healthcare support worker and at my Trust we wear the colour you are wearing. The blue gets darker as the bands go up.

Oh that’s interesting, so the colour codes aren’t the same throughout the NHS
