    How were the seats for longer drives for a few hours? Also if you use maps on the apple/android carplay does it show up on the stereo/digital display? Also thanks for doing base model, its sad everyone needs to use the high tiers. Rather use a base model as a point to draw an opinion since top tiers have everything.

    Sharing in case it helps... I have an SE and it's a good car. A few things I wish were different and one of them is the faux exhaust has a plastic chrome outline which makes them that much more noticeable. It adds insult to injury in my opinion. I think the faux exhaust kills an otherwise great looking back. While I would prefer no fake exhaust I do prefer the black on the S model because it's less noticeable.
    The other thing I dislike is the use of cheaper material in areas that are noticable e.g. the dashboard is hard plastic.
    Otherwise again, good car. I do have the adaptive cruise control option and a full sunroof and those make long drives a lot more enjoyable.
    I was deciding between this and the Mazda CX-5. This was less expensive and the technology package with touch screen was a lot more desirable.

    This is nice and affordable. I’m now eyeing this and the Toyota RAV4. Is vw reliable nowadays or still issues after 50k miles? I’ll probably keep the car till 80-100k then trade up for a new car.

    • @tydrives4846
      @tydrives4846  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is a good question. The 1.5 turbo 4 in this car is a new engine for VW. However I’ve heard it’s based on the familiar 1.4 turbo 4 they’ve had for years. That has proven to be a pretty reliable power plant thus far. I can say that with confidence since I work for a VW dealership. If you plan on keeping the car for a longer period of time (like with all cars) routine maintenance is key!

Plus parts are pricey than parts for competitors like Hyundai Santa Fe Mazda CX-5 Toyota’ rav 4 all these cars are similar price but will last you far longer and cheaper maintenance wise. VW had to recall so many cars due to the engine issues on lose seal leaking oil etc. same as audis notorious oil leaking cars same company makes both engines. I am in Europe and have a golf with 1.4 TSI engine. Now they discontinued all 1.4s some 2 years ago and they have 1.5s the same in this Taos. Bought my golf new in 2015 Sep, and now has 90K km, around 60K miles. Not too much but in here it's pretty standard for the age. I am only impressed with this car, nothing else. It's very frugal yet peppy. Very comfy and reliable up until now. Only oil (every 1K miles) and filter changes and one electric window thread or something like that has been changed. Let me tell you this though. Gold has always been the most important car for VW and they put all the effort to make them perfect. The ones that directly derived from golf should be very close in quality I assume. And this Taos seems to be a replacement of gold in the US and have the same underpinnings with golf. Same platform, same engines, almost identical interior looks and many shared parts, all the stalks, Aircon knobs, infotainment a etc are the same as golf. So yeah, take what you take from my short review :). Cheers and happy SUV hunting.

      @@bionicerkin European golfs are made in Wolfsburg American ones are assembled in Mexico im not sure how European models hold up as I’m in America but the American marketed VWs and Audis are a waste of time so much engine issues piston issues leaking issues. They were hood cars when they were made in europe but since they moved there production for US market to mexico it’s been a fairly unreliable car. Almost every Tiguan had to be recalled in America for engine issues and they still persist

    • @cmichael7241
      @cmichael7241 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Little late, but responding in case it helps others... I own a FWD. It's the SE, but it's the same transmission. Yes it is laggy, but it has a sport mode. Both automatic and manual. You push the shifter all the way back or to the side. He talked about this feature when he is doing the walkthrough of the cabin. I use the automatic sport mode and that seems to make a difference. I think it's laggy normally to help with fuel efficiency. So I use it if I need to shift lanes quickly etc. Recommend test driving it tough so you can experience it yourself.

    I am a VW Guy. VW needs to GET RID OF the FAKE exhaust cutouts in the bumper. Makes no sense. Either make the bumper smooth or actually exit the exhaust through the bumper cutouts. We all know they are fake. Duh! Which brings me to another point. The Taos has the 4Motion which back in my day(I'm 54) was called the Synchro on the Vanagon and Quantum and even on the Golf(in other countries but not the USA(scratching my head). The 4Motion name is boring. The 4Motion(Synchro) Taos has the 7 speed DSG(dual clutch) transmission which means that VW MUST make a Taos R. And I am not just talking about an "R Line" cosmetic R Taos. I am talking about a full fledged Taos R(or GT version) with a 240hp GTI engine. We deserve to have this in the USA. Heck in Europe the VW provides the Tiguan R line with ACTUAL performance goodies. Why not the USA? Okay okay, enough complaining. I agree that there is plenty of competition for the VW Taos and this is why VW needs to make it stand out. Most sales will be those who are VW nuts already. But if VW does make a Taos R(GT) or an "Off Road" version with some flaring and large/wider suspension the Taos will do VERY nicely in the USA. Where did the fog lights go?

    • @tydrives4846
      @tydrives4846  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree, why can’t VW give us some more performance models! I also believe if they made a more rugged version of the Tiguan/Atlas it would do very well.

      It's not. I've got one for an insurance rental at the moment, thanks to a wonderful specimen of humanity smashing the driver's window out of my car to steal a bag of candy and a phone mount.
      The turbo lag is horrendous. Turning left across 2 lanes of traffic is a nail biting experience.
      If you know how to build boost before accelerating (hold brakes and push accelerator to bring revs up while not moving, let the brakes go when you want to launch) then it gives reasonable performance, but without this, it's horrible.

    "This is about on par with the rest of the class, name a vehicle in this class with nicer materials!"
    Literally anything Mazda has made in the last 5 years embarrass this... Even the base model of the Mazda 3, the cheapest car they make is waaaaayyyyyy nicer then this when it comes to interior materials. Nissan's typically also have nice interiors, Toyota's are getting better.
    I guess it is on par with Chevy, Kia, and Hyundai but that's not exactly hard to do, I would have sacrificed the digital gauges for a nicer interior that wont rattle after 5 years of slamming into potholes. Plastic creaking against plastic is always such a luxurious sound.
