This is the one that started it all. This was a time when you didn't speed through things .You read the NPC dialog, and enjoyed everything about it. The music, sounds, and voice acting was great. It really created a feeling and drew you into the game. D2 felt like a continuation of this this game, and then that was all she wrote. D3 did not feel like a continuation of D2. Just a different game using the Diablo name. D4 feels like a continuation of D3. They both do not feel like they are really a part of this franchise to me.
i was a kid when this came out. i grew up in a very religious community and playing this game (as well as Resident Evil and others) were considered demonic lol anyway, my older cousins (both brothers) played 2 player on PS1. they wouldnt let me play but i really wanted to try. they kept dying to the Butcher. i gave it a go and we ended up killing him hahaha
My dad bough this game for us back in 1998. Spent countless hrs playing and i still play to this day. Never played 3 or 4. 1 and 2 are classic. Sidnote: Your engagement in chat was stellar. Always love to see streamers taking chat advice and taking the time to read chat. Awesome video dude. I highly enjoyed it.
Im playing d3 Right now. Have to stay away from D2, because i cant handle my everyday work and Family life, while playing d2 ladder😅 I dont know, this Game just gets me so hard, but i can totally manage to Play d3 casually. Not possible for me, with D2 though😂
Warrior is cool in D1. He gets 1% critical strike per level. Also, later on, your damage depends more on your strength and char level (yes, level is included in the damage formula) than on your weapon. So better get the sword of haste for maximum attack speed. Swords do +50% total damage to animals, but -50% total damage to undead. For maces it's vice versa. So I usually keep one good mace and one good sword and use it accordingly.
Wait, you're telling me you play so much Diablo and NEVER PLAYED THE ORIGINAL!?! 😂This is the first game that I would legitimately play all night when I was a kid.
Idk if you knew this, but the yellow zombies (Black Death) PERMANENTLY reduce your MAX life by 1 every time you get hit. You should always save before fighting them, and reload if you get hit.
Im almost an hour into the stream/video and I got to admit your chat is freaking awesome!! They gave you great advice so far and it made watching this alot more fun ❤️ I grew up playing this game at 8yrs old, not speaking a single word of english and no gamer parents or guides while playing... so a huuuge shout out to the chat for givin me the feeling justice was served ca 30yrs later 😂😂
I think the reason Butcher was that managable is that you also had the Poisoned Water Supply quest that gave you more levels and a decent ring. You also was luckey enough to find a Falcon sword aswell. Not every one had those conditions fighting The Butcher back in the days
yeah, first time fighting the butcher is like a cold shower after a warm bath of free xp punching bags, phil got lucky on loot, stocked up and organised his belt and cleared everything else first which most people wouldn't think to do on a first playthrough
I think the reason why Butcher was so memorable is because most of us were kids and he could spawn very early in the level and he rushes you and hits for high damage. It's super easy to die to him with Sorceress or Rogue if you are not prepared.
good stuff, back more than a few years ago I got into gaming with a text adventure on a Commodore PET 2001, (I think the game was called Miser?) and I was hooked from day one.......later i coved on/up to a Vic20, C64, C128, Amiga and eventually made the hop to more modern day PC's.....so many great games/companies back then for adventure gaming...... played a ton of strategic Simulations games, Epyx Games, Origin Systems Inc (long live Lord British!) Zork series ,Ultima games, Bard's Tale.......... god I miss those days.....Phil struck me in the Nostalgia mode........game on Phil !
Some people that are playing D2R, dont even know, that Tristram in D2, Is from Diablo 1 starter location, and the boy wirt who was selling rings for millions of gold is now dead, and we got his leg, to play cows. Griswold the blacksmith is alive, but not actually alive 😉
Lol yeah. I mean probably had people in the chat telling him he HAD TO TRY IT and it holds up soooo well. To be fair. It's a groundbreaking game and even for many that go back 25 years later they get into it as they go deeper and deeper and see the different monsters and music etc. But for sure it's 25+ years old so there's that.
Try the Beelzebub Mod for this. It's basically Diablo 1.5 and what people thought Diablo 2 was going to be before it was released with multiple skills per class instead of just the one. It has more spells and adds content back in that was cut from the original game with the voiceovers and such. It's hard but very fun.
You should try the Tchernobog Mod. It's so freaking cool, has ton of improvements, almost like a D2 version of Diablo 1. Has lots of new content too, but not as random as Hellfire.
its not bad if you play with the sorcerer ... you can teleport and arch angels staff of apocalypse is prob the best. ... i played this when it first came out in the 90s. ... also played hellfire from seiara bezel bub diablo HD is the one to play... run in town big stash and rare items
Imagine we used to duel back in the day. How smooth and fast and swift those where despite all the clumsiness. This game had a lot to do with timing actions, less build focus, quite opposite what were used to today. I know its already past, but it really matters where you click, and when you click, and not if you click, and how often you clik... unless you play sorc, then .... chain lightning spam XD
there are shrines that permanently damage your character by lowering max life or mana or something. I forget exactly but in D1 u gotta read every shrine and know which ones are bad.
@@BusinessEnglishSuccess I believe so. It's been 20 years since I last played D1, but I do remember holding shift and I dont think it was on Hellfire only. :)

I know exactly what you mean about it being difficult to stream. I tried it with OBS awhile back and it was a nightmare lol. I eventually figured it out like you did.
Yeah I played Diablo 1 for the first time ever when I was level 9 or so (age 9) lol. don't remember it being awkward at all. Scary as hell and fun. EPIC
More of a nostalgia thing. If you didnt play this game back in 2000 and picked it up in 24 idk how much fun youd have. For me its aboout taking me back to my moms basement on saturday nights with the lights off and the sound all the way up. good times
Actualy its hit recovery that makes the difference on the butcher fight so its all chance and well hitting. So since you went higher dex you hit more creating the gap.
I played diablo 1 first when i was about 12 yrs old. My memories of it are just at fond as D2. But yeah i fkin hate it now when i try to relive my past lol
at 17:10 i am all like...yeah, walk back to town, sell stuff, thats what you DO! also, noob ignoring that unidentified sabre just laying there....omg. even as a first time player, I paid attention! Magic is important for ALL classes in Diablo, because there is no Skill Tree...and learning Spells is a MUST! smart at 34:20 swapping the mace out for the sword, this guy has brains, although chat may be helping(maybe, but chat suggestions are often dumb, lol) I might just sub to this channel, just because bro looks like Kane, leader of the brotherhood of Nod from C&C. Also, barrels are totally worth it...might even find a Ring of the Zodiac in a barrel in Lvl 13....just never touch Goat shrines or Cauldrons without saving first.
Game looks pretty decent for its age, but the game play definitely is awkward, especially if you played a later game like this. There are so many quality of life improvements in d2 and diablo like games released after this that make it hard to play. But it is still a good game, even today. In terms of difficulty, if I remember correctly, warrior is easier on the start, but harder at the end. But the game isn’t really that hard with either class.
I never found it to be a huge issue because the world is so much smaller than in d2. I guess it’s a pain in town when walking to Adria and caves and stuff.
Godly Plate of the Whale, King's sword of Haste, Obsidian ring&amulet of the Zodiac, Lightforge, Veil of Steel, Archangel Staff of Apocalypse, Dreamflange, Naj's light plate etc..
As much as I absolutely love seeing you getting into the OG, the fact it seems so difficult to set up with modern connectivity kinda tells me this was nothing more than a quick cash grab for Blizzard. I’ll still probably get it though 😂

100% I miss that vibe it’s the lightning in a bottle effect we can’t capture it again lol
This is where it all started. Played the crap out of this in the day
The soundtrack of d1 is just so dark and good
its best in the franchise, actually its sad that they didnt even come close to this mood in d3/d4

Yep. And generally our very first Butcher happens before we clean the level, so he could be 2 level above many players.

Diablo one is one of the greatest games in gaming history. When it came out, it was so incredible. Blizzard North were gaming gods. GOAT!!!!
Sad to see where the franchise went after d2 like years of my childhood stolen from and anticipation
Greatest of all time ! IYKYK
I first played this game when I was 28 and I’m 54 now. The game doesn’t hold up but it’s good to experience the history. I like the oil of sharpness.
this is so sad. time really does fly
Eternitys a long time
Oil of sharpness (and all oils) were actually in the expansion to D1 - HellFire!

The one-click-is-one-hit killed so many mice when I played with. One of the best changes in D2 was the ability to hold down the mouse and auto attack.
