How to Change the Valve Stem Seals on an XS650 (without Removing the Engine)

Here's a video of how to change the valve stem seals on an XS650 without removing the engine and top end. This was not my idea, but I thought a video would complement the instructions below.

Never tried it, but I've read that some guys will take some small nylon rope and fish it into the cylinder so your valve can't drop.
Dunno why it wouldn't work. When you're done pull the tail of the rope.

Hi, i've watched this video a few times but can you tell me, this tools diameter "half inch" is that ID or OD? I'm in the U.K and am struggling to find the same size dimensions locally. Cheers for any help!
