PAL territories didn't have a "standard" plastic case version until 2009. The 2-disc version was the first (2001), then came the Platinum/Greatest Hits version (2003).
I got this when it came out, but unfortunately some of my collection (including this) was damaged by water. I picked up a replacement, and this was very helpful to check it was complete! Cheers!
I ended up paying $125 dollars for mine. It just arrived yesterday. There were moments over the past few weeks when I questioned my purchase (might the most expensive game I've ever bought second hand alongside Manhunt). As soon as I opened it, my concerns were alleviated. Such a beautiful piece of horror memorabilia. So keen to start playing it after work today!

In uk their were 3 versions on PS2. This 2 Disc special edition, platinum version(greatest hits edition) which contained the extra scenario, and the silent hill collection which included all 3 games released on ps2
If anyone wants to play a PAL PlayStation game without converting and altering/hurting the video quality, just find a british or generally european fellow you trust, and arrange to buy a multi-format TV through them (make sure it has a component port). That's what I'm doing (already have a PAL 70004 PS2). Also, modding your PS2 does the trick just as well.
Hey, this is weird but, have you been able to play the game at all? I have a modchipped PS2 that plays everything, but this Silent Hill 2 edition specifically gives me a black screen everytime, and it's not the disc's fault.

this edition is a masterpiece. The game is perfect, the making of is perfect.

Not only is Silent Hill 2 rightfully deserving of a masterpiece status, but it has an amazing collector cover art! It looks incredible!
