  • Welcome back to our Germany Road Trip series here in Bavaria Germany, our 29th country on our round the world trip! Continuing on the Romantic Road, we arrive in the quiet, ski town of Fussen, Germany. After enjoying a peaceful stopover, and surprise picnic with delicious Bavarian food and beer, we head out the next morning to see one of Germany’s most famous castles, Neuschwanstein Castle!
Some call it Germany’s Disney Castle because it is said to have inspired the castle you see today at Disneyland and Disney World. If you’re planning to tour Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau, Germany, you’ll need to get tickets in advance, know where to park and how to get there. Don’t worry, we will show you how to get your tickets as well as where to get the best view of Neuschwanstein on Marienbrücke!
We hope you enjoyed this video and, as always, we’ll see you in our next video as we Keep Going Places!

Aww Jordan is too sweet!! Planning the cutest walk (with little sights along the way) and picnic! Also the views at the end 😍 the castle, lakes, and mountains make a beautiful setting!

He did good ☺️! It was a highlight of Germany, our little picnic in the park. And those views... incredible! They almost unreal looking.

I worked in Fussen for a short while as a carpenter/joiner with some other British construction workers in 1998.I went there for the fun of it really. It was a very nice area and the Alps were amazing. We went out for a boat trip on the huge lake there. The German people were very welcoming and I got along with them even though I can't speak German. Lots of mosquitoes at night though as I was there in the warm weather but an enjoyable experience.

I did a similar road trip through Germany last year and loved it! My favorite stop was Lake Eibsee! Thanks for sharing!

Awesome! What a great trip. Lake Eibsee should make an appearance in our next video. So very many beautiful places to see in this area of the world. ☺️ Thank you for watching!

New to your channel as of tonight! I’ve watched 3 videos and love them all:). We are planning (again, was postponed in 2020) our German Christmas this year with our children. Your videos have provided so much inspiration! Adore the content, music, and you both! Well done

Fussen was my first stop in Germany! Such a neat town and the castle is absolutely stunning.

So much to see. Was really surprised of the lack of people at the ticket stand area and on your walk up to Neuschwanstein. Guess they were all at the bridge. Hope you got to see a bit of altstadt Fuessen (it's really nice in the evenings). Glad you got to see Hohes Schloss Fuessen and perhaps when you go back (as I know you'll want to) Hohenschwangau is wonderful (totally different feel to it. At first was a bit disappointed - taking you on a picnic - here you carry the food - but then glad to see Jordan pick up the load as all good husbands should (our duty as pack horses). Loved every minute of the video and looking forward to GaPa (special place in my life).

Hey Tommye! I think we were just early enough to avoid crowds at the ticket booth but by the time we finished the tour they had ALL made it to the bridge. No worries though, we got our turn. Also, I chuckled at your disappointment with Jordan on the picnic. In his defense I’m pretty sure I (Ashley) insisted on carrying it since he did the planning and was filming. (Then I probably got tired and he took it 😂) It was a great time. We LOVED our time in GaPa but spent most of it up on the mountain. Thanks for always watching and so glad you enjoyed the video. - Ashley

Thank you so much ☺️ The jacket is the North Face Thermoball and not sure what brand the scarf is (it was a gift). Our website is keepgoingplaces.com (we have not updated it much over the last year, but we have big plans to regularly update it starting with the New Year!).

Are there any alternatives to the 30 minute hike from the parking lot to the castle? Does the castle interior have a lift? Thanks!

  • @RustyDust101

Yepp, just showing up at Neuschwanstein will only result in disappointment. There are just far too many tourists attempting to see the castle.
It is one of THE most visited places in Germany. It ranks up there with the Oktoberfest and Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
So, definitely get your tickets for both the castle as well as your parking area several days in advance.
