Matt Horner on Hyperion Rescues Orlan from Mira Han's Mercenaries (Starcraft 2)

- Captain Matt Horner wanted to find where the Terran Dominion had hidden Commander Jim Raynor. Horner sought the services of Colonel Orlan to hack the Dominion deep-encryption network and locate Raynor. Orlan had previously betrayed the Raiders; he was being held prisoner by Mira Han at Raynor's request. Horner discovered Han would only release Orlan to Raynor - the client - to preserve her reputation. She would not be swayed by the argument that Orlan was needed to free Raynor, or by her "marriage" with Horner. Using Hyperion, the Raiders attacked an asteroid field mining operation belonging to Han. Kel-Morian Combine pirates also operated in the field. The Raiders crippled Han's space station, which convinced her to release Orlan to them. Orlan initially refused to help the Raiders. Can we just appreciate the fact that Valerian basically told the being that can kill him with a thought to shut up and sit down, and she actually listened?
She probably respected him for that ballsy stance.

Well he made good point. Acting rashly simply because she is impatient put her goal in unnecessary jeopardy.
He's turning into an Emperor she can respect and well he was completely right. If they rush it they could get into trouble.
The most important thing about this mission is that Valerian obtains both the "Princess" and "Scooter" nicknames.
Scooter has the same energy as Swann calling Artanis Skippy
Well with how Valerian was going to be Emperor of the Dominion, I'd say it was one scooter there.
pity we weren't able to upgrade the hyperion in wings of liberty like you can in this mission, it would've been cool & fun
The Hyperion at the start of Wol would butcher the entire map.

They copied an arcade game called "star battle" which was created during wings. That being said, I really like that game so not to bummed out that they made a copy

Just how powerful is Earth? Kerrigan talks as if her forces are not ready at all (3:00), and her forces are strong enough to take on Mengsk and his empire. Earth had better be in some expansions in the future or even in Starcraft 3 as the main enemy.
Man, the UED is the most technologically advanced Terran faction in Starcraft. Trust me, DuGalle and Stukov from SC brood war were just a SCOUTING PARTY yet they took on Mengsk, the Protoss, and took over the new overmind! They’re near unstoppable!
Just to let you know ,the Dominion is just a "colony" to Earth,a new one, in fact.The only problem for them to crush Dominion is the distance between.And it is because of the distance,Dominion's tech is too damn obsolete to Earth.
@@youdonthavetoknowsssh8154 Actually I think I'm making a mistake, but wasn't the UED itself in an advantageous position from the start? The only reason I saw them losing was because they didn't know how to store schematics and just build another Psi Disruptor? Which would easily have dirupted Kerrigan's control and would scored an easy victory.
That and Duran's betrayal that cost them everything?
I don't know much about the lore other than the games. So I was curious, just how much more advanced are the main UED forces? Are they like Protoss level or somewhere in between?

Valerian inherited his father’s shrewdness but he hates evil and tyranny of any kind, even from his own people and he’ll remove such people for better good. He already got a lot of guts to come to Raynor personally in the first chapter and proposed a friendship and alliance with him, there’s no way he’ll afraid of the Queen of Blades. The way he respond to Kerrigan’s vile threats and his bravery and sense of justice instead earn him the respect from the Queen of Blades, convinced that he isn’t like his asshole father Arcturus Mengsk and be assured that he won’t betray her.
Velerian is one smart guy, knowing how to exploit situations to his benefit. He had long wanted to overthrow his father’s tyrannical rule but isn’t in the right position to do so. If he personally rebelled and killed his father, he would only cause further outrage amongst the Terrans and his plan to reform the Dominion will be in jeopardy. Mengsk still have a lot of loyal supporters so overthrowing him is a mountainous task. He made a wise move to take a step back, instead letting Kerrigan do the job and giving the Queen of Blades all the support she needs.
I just love Mira and Matt's relationships. Shouldn't have played card with her matt lol.
They kill like 1000 people and at the end "ok you can have the guy".
I know I'm a year late, but everything that you destroy in that mission is automated.

funny how they are barely involved other than that time during the brood war on their own homeworld, when kerrigan needed more resources to keep up with the new overmind and UED.
The only Terran mission in the Zerg campaign.

I genuinely think that they could make an entire game based off of this gamemode, of course with more unit types, less linear, all playable factions, etc. Maybe use WH40k Gothic Armada for some reference.

I don’t think this was a rescue mission. This is more like a dash, grab, and return after we’re done with him mission. I mean, I would’ve sent Orlan back to Mira on principle alone.
The ship looks like a plasma cutter in dead space
To think they hired those same mercenaries not so long ago against Orion.
One question, when does Terrans consider using Energy shielding for their units? I mean we already seen some of the Dominion Intercessors (basicly just improved Medivacs, lore wise at least) having some shielding, and just imagine a fully shielded infantry, mechanized units, navy, man Terrans gameplay wise would rip trough anything
Expensive, yet possibly not that efficient. On some big stuff, like thors - possibly, but infantry... I doubt it won't take Dominion at least half a century.
Protoss shields are also psi-based, so it doesn't translate so easily into Terran tech
@@Mrcryptidsarereal Colossus and other mechanical Protoss units don't use Psi since they are robotic yet they still have shields
If Terrans can replicate it like how that mad scientist Stetman can. I think it may be possible but they'll need scientists as mad as Stetman.

@23:10 If that is the Kerrigan from SC1, she’ll turn on Matt and Velerian like what she did to Fenix in the past. Kerrigan had indeed changed her vicious ways and she ain’t gonna betray anyone anymore esp her close allies coz the 2 men risked everything to help her rescue Raynor. She even warned her Swarm not to lay a finger on Matt and Valerian. Now that’s character development.
Velerian knowing Arcturus tyrannical ways too well, has already wanted to overthrow him but he isn’t in the right position to dispose his father. If he personally rebelled against his father and killed him, he’ll only cause further outrage amongst the Terrans, jeopardising his goal to reform the Dominion . Arcturus had too many loyal supporters. Velerian made a wise move by taking a step back, letting Kerrigan do the job but giving her all the support she needs. But Valerian also warned the Queen of Blades not to step over the line as he isn’t a man to be intimidated by vile threats. He really got a lot of guts speaking to Kerrigan in this manner but instead that earned him the respect from the Queen of Blades., convinced that he isn’t like his tyrannical father. She knows Valerian will not turn on her after he got what he wanted.

That's what i thought the first tine too. However... no. He isn't. The magistrate guy left Raynor's Raiders to live a peaceful life... we don't know if he actually managed to...
While I like the idea, I much prefer to think Matt is Charlie Vane's new identity after escaping from Brontes IV.
Officially, the Magistrate left right after Episode 1, at almost the exact same time as Matt Horner joined.
So, officially, no one's ever seen them in the same room...
Kind of like how we don't see Artanis until after Tassadar's sacrifice.

It's not all bad; iirc in the SC timeline the South won the Civil War and the Cold War ended with the West nuking the USSR into the Void to chill with Amon. In comparison, I'd say we've been doing rather well.
@@fulldisclosureiamamonster2786 so that would expalin the Confederacy in SC1, didn't know the lore all to well, i am more versed in the technological level of it, even then for the Terrans it would be both bad and good having rejoin with Earth, massive increase to military budget and numbers and technological jump, since the UED is the most advanced human faction, but they would jump right back to the Confederacy essentially.
You know the Hyperion shouldn't attack like the SC2 BC's, it's an SC1 BC afterall 😁.
