I have a 7.5 Golf R. I think it's great, and I got it because of the usability and comfort as I do a lot of miles. I can't deny I prefer the BMW engine, but as an everyday tool I'm happy I have the Golf.

Maybe some of you guys think I'm crazy - I sold my Cupra R and bought a M140i Manual. The M140i isn't as sharp as the Cupra, but I love changing gears by this 6-cylinder engine. Also in wet conditions is it fun to slide, there was no fun with the Cupra R. There are many fast hot hatches, but I always choose the ultimate 3.0l turbo charged understatement beast🤘

The golf is faster and quicker. The catless downpipe in the 135i helps a lot and also it has a intake. If the 135i would have been stock it would have been slower all around. And don't forget that the R moves 4 wheels while the 135i only 2. In theory even if the cars would be identical in weight and power the 135i should be faster because it has less power loss in the drivetrain. All this added makes the R even more impressive if you ask me.

Had an FK2 Type R for nearly 3 years and looking to 'upgrade' so test drove a 2019 golf r and was a totally underwhelming experience. Quick off the line but so so dull to drive. Tried an M140i and was a lot more entertaining so on the lookout for a BMW now! Obviously neither car compare to the FK2 for the handling but the M140i will be a great replacement plus it sounds better than the Golf!

I drive a golf R in Australia. they have just released the golf R here as the limited Edition. it is fully optioned with the brakes wheels leather and exhausts.drive away 48.000 euro. why did that golf cost so much money?. thats about $120.000Au. here $67.000Au and i thought that was expensive for a golf. the limited edition looks no different from the standard golf R.no more power. and standard R has better wheels and costs about $8000 cheaper. i can understand the BMW and its followers as a drivers car. but the grip in the wet from the golf is amazing!. i never get bored of driving it.but VW could have made that a bit more special,
A lot of comments from people who have probably never driven either. They are both fantastic cars for different reasons (I chose the Golf), but the idea that anyone would make a very serious choice (to the majority) of purchasing a car based purely on the noise it makes need to give their heads a wobble. Each car is a better car to different people, based on their requirements. Handing over a lot of cash for a car is very different to clicking play on a TH-cam video.

The golf R in my opinion it’s such a safe option you can’t go wrong really their not really expensive but u get a lot of car for the money, golf have come so far imo and bmw basically have the same car as they did in 2011 set from a few different exterior changes so personally would go for golf r
The M135i has so much more driving character than even this particular Golf R (which looks stunning in its own right). The Golf R sounds great... for a Golf R. But it can’t compare to the silky smooth scream of a straight six. The styling of the M135i is awkward and frumpy, and I LOVE the look of hatchbacks. BMW didn’t make the greatest looking hatch. Maybe hatchies need to be FWD to look right? I’m a big BMW fan but my current ride is a GTI.
Love the M135I, in my opinion it's a much more playful car in comparison to the Golf R. However totally different cars, interiorwise, engine wise etc. I'm very curious about the new interior on the upcoming 1 series. I think that the Golf R then takes the second place interiorwise, Love the vid as always however, it hurts me how the start/stop function kills the engine right after blazin in on the autobahm. Put it outtt !

The Golf is way better. Looks more modern, I really love the dynamic turn signals, digital dash and the sound is great aswell. The bmw looks like it‘s from the stone age
