Really enjoyed the deep dive and design analysis, and I think you nailed it on all your points. Amazing how two knives can look so similar while being worlds apart from each other.
I see two knives coming from China made by the same manufacturer for two different brands of knives. The smaller blade of the Rough Rider mimics the Ettrick pattern from Sheffield, there made with a long handle and short blade for more precise cutting the shorter blade provides. The Rosecraft takes its design from a French style patter like the Laguiole style | folding knife. Few modern made slip joints use new knife designs besides using modern materials and precision machines to make them.👍
@WoodsmanHobo777 Me too. A lot of artifacts made of brass are recovered in near pristine conditions, while most steel artifacts are corroded away or barely recognizable. That's the power of brass. Thanks brother 🙏
First Rosecraft I saw, I thought "Rough Ryder Reserve". I'd be surprised if they're not out of the same factory, and I'd say that factory is the manufacturing facility used by Brother Knives. The giveaway? Those bolsters, always a bit too chunky, every time. Plus the squared-off sides you mentioned. The Chinese just don't seem to be able to get that particular dimension elegant enough - everything's a bit too wide. They're clearly well-made and serviceable knives, offering good value for money, but just lacking soul to my eye. Case get their hidden tangs right most of the time. GEC, surprisingly, don't - their #38s (equivalent pattern to your examples) most certainly don't. Brass liners are sometimes better. With stag or lighter-coloured bone, give me steel every time. You don't get brass bleed (aka verdigris) with steel.
I've never been a fan of Chinese knives. They are producing superior knives, there's no arguing about that. I'm just a buy USA made man. Of those 2 knives, I prefer the Rough Rider. It just looks more traditional to me. I sometimes wish I wasn't so prejudice against those Chinese knives because they are coming in D2 and Carbon Steel recently. There's just something about them that makes me feel sick when I think about spending my money on them. It's a strange thing because I don't feel that way about Japanese made knives.
@This_Old_Man_68 For me enough that their communist. It's virtually impossible to avoid a Chinese knife. But that's true of everything in the U.S. 90% of our medication is coming from China 🇨🇳. I try to buy American to support our workers and industry. It's scandalous that our government has allowed this to happen. 🤨☹️

I like steel liners just as well as brass liners. Great video and great review
