    Thanks Eric, for picking up my suggestion! As I mentioned on Discord, this song is a cover of a well-known song, which was in turn based on a famous Korean poem from the 1930s. So the cultural influences are definitely there. They play good old tasty rock and roll, verging into more funky/soulful territory at times (they have covered Lady Gaga). The band consists of lead singer Jayoung, guitarists Iree and Hyunjung, bassist Arem and drummer Yeongeun. They formed in late 2020 from the merger of two other bands, Rolling Girlz and Rose Quartz, hence the name. They are based out of a little basement venue in Seoul, from which they do periodic livestream concerts. Rock is still a small subculture in Korea, struggling for light in the shadow of K-pop. But RQ have a little Casey Kasem-style bullet by their name; I think they are going places. They toured the USA last year (I saw them in Seattle) and Europe this year, with Australia next on the agenda. Great live band; do not miss them if you get the chance. And also they are the sweetest people ever. They just released a new track today called Stand Up, which is great. @ROLLINGQUARTZofficial

    This song "Azalea" is actually a cover of 20 year old Rock song from the Korean Rock singer Maya. Unfortunately, most people who request this cover by Rolling Quartz don't mention this important detail to reactors. Maya's "Azalea" was a huge hit when it was first released in South Korea 20 years ago. It's been covered countless times over the years since Maya's original by many Korean artists. So Rolling Quartz are just one of many. The success Maya had with it is pretty impressive, considering Rock music has never really been all that mainstream in South Korea and it still isn't. The lyrics in the chorus of "Azalea" are actually sourced from a significant Korean poem that dates back to the 1920s, during Japan's occupation of Korea. So this song's got some real historical meaning to it. I am going to go and make a formal request over at your place soon so that you react to Maya's original song! 🤘

    Phew! Okay, I'm not crazy. First time I heard this I thought, "Is that Skynyrd?!" But how cool is that? Seeing an MV of five young woman from South Korea playing a tune and being catapulted back (for a few seconds) to a U.S. southern rock band from the mid-seventies. Pretty DAMN cool in my book. (The chorus reminds me of something else too, but I can't place it.) Anyway, just saw a live video of Rolling Quartz' "Fearless" and it's pretty damn cool as well! Thanks again, Eric. Always a pleasure. 🤘🕊

    Great reaction Eric! I only discovered this band recently. Love Rolling Quartz 🇰🇷 🎸 💎 ! #KRock
    Here are a few of my favourite Rolling Quartz songs that have a Music Video. They're well worth a look.
    * "Blaze" (their 2020 debut single)
    * "Fearless" (3rd single)
    * "Reminiscence" (cover song, great ballad)
    * "Rock'n'roll Paradise and Drum Solo" (Official Live Video)
    * [MV] "Stand Up" by Rolling Quartz (New Single) .

    They have some other great originals like "Blaze." They also do a great cover of Maneskin's "Zitte E Buoni." As for other influences, in their live shows, they play Lady Gaga and Nickelback.
    Also, I can't prove it, but I'm positive Iree's (red-haired guitarist) smile increases my life expectancy.

      @DaRunningManSubs 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Just like how Rolling Quartz's hit "Azelea" is actually a cover of a song by the original artist Maya, their "Sing Your Heart Out" is also a cover. The original artists for that one are the Korean Punk band Crying Nut. But sadly, the people behind Rolling Quartz decided to change the English name of the song. Crying Nut's original is called "Song of the Heart" as that is the English name they released it under in 2018. Changing the English name was unnecessary and unfortunate as it is confusing for new listeners, and it makes it tougher for folks outside of South Korea to track down Crying Nut's original. Here is the link to Crying Nut's original "Song of the Heart": th-cam.com/video/CGvrvu4kT08/w-d-xo.html

      @@northof4912 What negatives are you talking about? Telling people who the original artists of a song are is not a negative.

    • @northof4912
      @northof4912 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DaRunningManSubs “Unfortunately”….. “but sadly”. That prefaces your entire comments with negativity. Or how about “not everyone knows that this is a great cover of a song that was done by Maya 20 years ago, which was based upon a traditional Korean poem……”. You see what I did there?
      It’s like dumping on Metallica’s cover of Whiskey in a Jar or Five Finger Death Punch’s cover of House of the Rising Sun, because people don’t happen to state they are just the last cover in a long line of covers that honour the original songs.

    • @DaRunningManSubs
      @DaRunningManSubs 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@northof4912 You're reading into things that aren't there, and that's probably because you misread what I wrote to begin with. I wasn't talking about "Azalea" in this post you are replying to, so your Metallica and Five Finger Death Punch comparisons are way off. I was talking about "Song of the Heart." What I referred to as "unfortunately" and "sadly" was the change of the English title when Rolling Quartz released their cover, and what I wrote is correct. "Sing Your Heart Out" is not the name of the song, as the original artists Crying Nut called it. And I don't blame the ladies of Rolling Quartz for it. That's why I said, "the people behind Rolling Quartz."

    RQ are excellent at there craft and they have a very professional team behind them Rolling Star they are putting out some of the most professional looking music videos I have seen a good example would be there song "Holler" unreal video th-cam.com/video/YmOrSdAzRfE/w-d-xo.html this is a really good rock song. Another ballad that they do is another cover from a Korean group some 20 years before is "Reminiscence" which might be my favorite song by them it really shows off the vocalist Jayoung talent. th-cam.com/video/L_YooJt_ewU/w-d-xo.html

    The original was a power ballad performed by "Maya". As typical of this band, they don't just "cover" anything ... they twist it up and make it their own.
    J-Rock and K-Rock are very different you will find if you listen to enough of each. K-Rock tends to be a little more "radio friendly". No one I know belts it out like Jayoung the vocalist ... and the rest of the band is full of .... personality ;) .
    This band is nothing short of spectacular, live. I saw them twice last year. If you ever have a chance to go see a show I would not pass it up.
