These teardowns are very informative. There are plenty of people reviewing products but getting an inside look and find out the workmanship and what battery cells are actually there does two things that everyone can appreciate: 1. Validates what the manufacturer said it had (or doesn't have), and 2. Gives potential buyer confidence in knowing exactly what they are getting. Great job!
Magnificent presentation! You have lots of guts for doing such a thorugh teardown job, and it is very much appreciated! Thank you!
Thanks for showing me how to open my unit . I actually repaired it when I saw what was the matter inside. Gratitude sent from Wiconisco Township Pennsylvania.
Wiconisco Township? Wow, we're practically neighbors!
@@LithiumSolar really how cool.
I purchased the River Pro and Extra Battery. Thank You !! i feel much better about my setup now.
Being able to see inside construction set my mind at ease. i saw Quality manufacturing. And answered my thinking about expanding my system with making my own extra ‘Extra Battery’ 🤣🤣
Thanks Again, Great Video! Straight forward presentation, chock FULL of info ⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
I have a pro and love mine also, haven't used it much. But seems quality
OUTSTANDING!!!...I received the extra battery for the river pro. Once charged...I turned all units off and disconnected them. . For some reason the extra battery will not shutoff. I contacted Ecoflo and they will be sending me a replacement unit. BUT...I have the "defective" unit. I'm disectting it to see if I can reset it so the continuous blinking light on the extra unit will stop.
Hi! Did you try this and if so, did it work? I have a flashing on/off light and no display. Wondering if I disconnect the main power lead, if this could reset it? Support from Ecoflow is non-exisitent.
Mine died completely. This gave me the confidence to open her up and poke around. Two of the four battery groups are very low on voltage (less than 1.5). I'm charging it through the xt60 coming from the bms and voltage does indeed go up.
I've had less than 100 cycles on it, 350w max. 2.5 years old and just out of warranty. Sure did hope for more given the price point it would be sad if it was completely disposable and not serviceable at all
Bravo!! You definitely deserve an award for this informative teardown. I was thinking about replacing the fan on this unit.
Great job you just earned a new 62 year old female subscriber who is transfixed by your tear downs! I’m on the fence whether to buy this or bluetti’s eb70s power station. Would prefer eb70s yet in many reviews it’s getting accused of having a smaller inverter than advertised yet it’s all just hearsay without a teardown. Please, please, please do a teardown of the eb70s next. Thank you, thank you, thank you!🌻🌺🌻
Awesome teardown! I wish EcoFlow would make these batteries more easily replaceable. Not something to slot in and out, but just something that wouldn't require complete disassembly and soldering to replace when the batteries wear out.
Checkout Jehugarcia's external diy battery thats added via the solar charger port as backup th-cam.com/video/FhhND-AG1Jw/w-d-xo.html
in case of lfp the lifespan of the electronics might come out faster than batteries if nothing strange happents ,, but cobalt ones and 800/1000 cycles yup they could give space to seperate cells and replace em easier
Looks good. Nice to see the inside is put together well.
Lovely video, thank you. I tore down my River pro when the overload signal won't go off. While I was coupling it back, connecting the battery to the board damaged the BMS after that spark. Like the type you saw. You are lucky the unit is still fine after coupling it.
Strange that the inrush to the inverter caps would “damage” your BMS. Are you sure it didn’t just trip the overcurrent protection?
Great teardown... I'm impressed with the internal design...no space wasted.
I was slightly concerned when the capacitor sparked... you didn't even flinch....:)
Pity it's not LiFePO.
As a Debug Tech... Thank you for taking it apart. so I wont be tempted to.
Thank you from Germany for Tear Down and Viewing
Hi, very informative. Thanks. My river Pro's USB ports have stopped charging, and the 'Overload' and USB indicator are constantly flashing. I couldn't really see during the teardown, but are there some fuses that could have blown causing my issue?
EcoFlow has come to be one of the top 3 solar gens in the River series.
The Delta is also a great machine…
I didn't go with the Delta because one of the other youtubers that is smarter than most of us had a issues with charging. When it got a bit warm. He had to wait 2 hours before he charge his .
I have a Delta (KS version) and a R600 PRO (also KS version) with expansion battery. All their batteries have one major issue, an extreme high self discharge.
If you really want live off-grid and charge via solar, the high self discharge, the fake MPPT and the bad AC conversion rate let you move very quick to someting else.
I build first my own battery pack and used Victron charger and AC converter with it. Now is also the battery from Victron.
What a difference to Ecoflow, no heat, no fans, no noise!
@@BeautyOfGaiahigh self discharge? This would only happen if the BMS has a ridiculous quiescent current draw or there’s some background power sucker that doesn’t turn off when you have the outputs disabled and the screen off. Lithium ion discharges at 1-2% a month max. I have some cells I put into storage a year ago at 3.65-3.70 and I just double checked them since it’s been exactly 12 months. Voltage was almost exactly as I left it. If there was any difference then they only lost 10 or 20 millivolts at most because I remember I had an even spread between 3.65 and 3.70 and it’s still like that with nothing below 3.653
Not too sure exactly what cells they were putting in these first gen units before they switched all their devices to LiFePO4. Probably Chinese cells but I can’t imagine they’d use junk cells. Hopefully EVE, BAK or Lishen.
@@ericklein5097 The cells are in packs, impossible to say if there are cells with different quality used. I don't think that the cells are bad. Its their electronic design.
All models have only a soft switch. So, a push button to switch it on and off. Means there is all the time a circuit alive, outsite of the BMS.
Depending on where the soft switch is located, means what other curcuits there are also alive, is the discharge rate different. For my Delta is it massive. The R600 PRO is better.
More worst, is the horrible conversion rate. Delta is more a heater than a power bank. The R600 PRO have still a conversion rate below 80%. Off grid solutions should have a conversion rate of at least 92%, which is possible if quality converter are used. But China companies have to make more profit than others, GOV need to be funded.
So, build cheap, sell high. Don't care about customer, they are far away.
@@BeautyOfGaia very interesting. Thanks for the insight into the bad electronics design of the earlier EcoFlow units.
You should be able to take apart any of the Ecoflow units fairly easily until you get down to the pack and then the cell holders will have some open space in the middle that should show enough info to figure out the cell model
I have to complement you on your professionalism and well produced video.
I feel a little smarter now.. great job!.
Your presentations are enlightening! I have matched the River Pro with two Renogy 100W panels. Coming from a totally different perspective, I find confidence in your commentary. A decade ago I dreamed of powering the DC needs of my office with a couple of batteries and a box full of pigtails. For reasonable money, this River Pro *is* that box. Nothing is perfect, but I think this power station is great technology for the $$... and leaves me with options should I need more battery or care to avoid a power outage. I think it's better than most would suspect. Wouldn't you agree?
Looks like a very solid build
Thanks for the video! You answered my question about if this thing uses 18650 cells, something I hadn't been able to find.
Absolutely love your videos, i have seen other youtubers doing simalar stuff of course but you make it easy to watch and understand a bit better. I would like to let you know im making one of your 3.5kw batteries you made last year, the craftsman toolbox one. I am spending a bit more but it will be a good first build for me and a useful one.
Really helpful thanks, I don't suppose you happened to make a note of which LCD screen the unit uses did you? Thanks!
@LithiumSolar, did you ever get a chance to see the board number by the hold down screw under the fan shroud? I couldn’t see due to your screwdriver. Thanks and I know this is three years old.
Maybe I missed it, but was there something like a fuse somewhere?
Thanks, just bought this not long ago and was also curious as to what was inside, you did a great job. Thanks a mill because you saved me form opening my EcoFlow haha, Otherwise I would have ruined it 🤣🤣🤣
Thanks, your presentation is excellent, easy to understand. Great work you did, not regret to have this pro, will buy extra battery in future.
Nice modular config, nice to see something somewhat repairable.
could you possibly make a video on how to replace the circuit breaker? I think i blew mine.
tore it down AND put it back together. ty nice video ty for sharing
great video ! is there a way to have a DC output of 12v because my river 600 is 13.6V which is high for my led lights ?
That was pretty interesting. This is the model I have. Thanks!
Looks okay but the Jackery solder and internal design looks even better to me in tear down videos I've seen. Jackery also has cell level fuses someone pointed out in a video I seen in the past. If buying a Lithium Ion version not sure what brand I'd get out of those two.
Hello. Is it possible to replace existing batteries to any LiFeP04 batteries?
My is broken after a failed update. Customer service is no help except buy a new one. You got any tip on how to reset it?
Hello, at my ecoflow river pro station, after turning on the sandwich maker, the icons lit up for no more than 30 seconds: protection from the current source from overheating turned the fan a little and I turned it off and turned it on the next morning, but the indicators are still on and the fan is spinning, the battery temperature is 23 degrees. May encounter conflicts? What to do in this situation? Thank you
I have th kickstarter LIFEPO version. Amazing battery! And I paid less than $500 for it.
At around 4:30 you talk about the auxiliary battery port, and then later talk about the wiring & mention something about the way it can protect itself in case a highly charged extra battery is connected to a low-charge River Pro. This is a thing?
Wouldn't that be how people often use the extra battery?
- keep it handy in case it is necessary ... in case a sunny day turns into a blizzard ...
- it is awfully cumbersome to keep it attached all of the time.
Cool design but i can see why the cells are not typically user replaceable. I wish more electronics were designed to be kept around a long time
Krisbow power station still hard to disassemble even all screw has benn detached.
You do a great job and I enjoy watching your videos. After looking at all of the various battery packs sold under the guise of a solar generator (they don't generate anything) and the high cost, can't charge below freezing, time it takes to recharge and use, I'll stick to using one of my Honda generators that I can get more power to run power tools, lights and equipment on a 5gal can of gas. I'll save the solar to run everything else on my off-grid farm.
I don't disagree at all :) :)
Craig, I have the pro and it hasn’t run out of gas yet. Also a very small 800 watt gen..
But with these I can run my Honda for only a couple of hours a day to charge them up, sleep in quiet all night and use about 1/3 the amount of gasoline.
Don’t generate anything? They take PV and turn it into DC via solar cells. I want what you’re smoking.
They also technically “generate” AC from DC
Would it be possible to upgrade the UPS switching mechanism from 30ms to something like 10ms?
Greatly detailed and well done! It is nice to see the inside and the components, I thought at least they would use name brand cells. No I know. Thanks and great job!
I'm not sure any of the cheaper power stations use brand-name cells. The Jackery I took apart didn't either.
@@LithiumSolar I am just glad to know that these premium units use off brand cells. Thanks. I have never had the nerve to open them and void my warranty.
Is there a way to hard reset the unit .. ?
I love the teardown. Amazing unit
8s battery pack lithium ion cells configuration. Yes?
Many thanks for your video on your tear down and feedback.
Hi I can't get my river pro to charge o keep getting an "overload " signal
It's at 45 percent right now .. any suggestions?
Just ordered one today!
I've gone through two of these devices, first one was replaced under warranty, the second one was past warranty. I was using them as an extended life UPS for my internet equipment and it seems that power outages are not good for these things. I tore mine open (before seeing your video) and it appears my BMS board has some burn marks on it. So I think it's a loss unfortunately. For the cost of these devices they really should last more than 1 year. So wasteful to the environment at that as well when they don't last. Is yours still running by any chance?
VERY COOL INFO THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO. GOOD VIDEO JOB TO 👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you for a great tear down :)
Considering the Delta, as I need something for my freezers! Thoughts?
I am so frustrated by EcoFlow's extra battery for the River Pro. (1) the top port connection is very in-elegant, but more importantly, (2) there is no charging port. I really want to be able to charge it separately!
I know it's unlikely ... and would require a different cable ... but do you think it possible to connect 2 River Pros together?
Thank you for this video - very cool stuff!
I have the R600 pro from the kickstarter with the li fe batteries. Is there a way to use aftermarket batteries with the expansion port?
I wish I could used 240V to charge this device. I shipped one to Ghana and it looks like I will need a Voltage step down. I am curious about those switches in the inverter if that can be changed for the unit to accept 240V
Yeah sorry, this is a 120V device. I'm not sure if they make a 240V product (in a single device).
Maybe with a transformer
nice teardown, thank you and have a nice day ;)
Great video thanks, ❤
Thank you for your videos and reviews, they are great. You said this battery was an 8s 10p . How many batteries would that be in total? What would be the battery Volts. I am guessing it would be 24 volts. Any help would be great.
Tear it down!! Thanks for doing this as it shows a products true colors.
Excellent, indeed it is very useful. I have an additionnal question: did you (or could you...) perform a similar teardown on the external battery for River 600 Pro?
My interest is wether it would be possible to directly access its battery, since it does not seem safe to do it on the main module. I would like to have a 12V high amperage output, which LiFePO batteries are able to deliver.
I'm pretty sure these have a 36v battery configuration internally.
Around the 11:15 min mark in this video, it's shown there's a DC-DC part that is stepping down the voltage to 12v.
@@nashdashflashit’s an 8S which is one cell above the standard 7S 24V that most of the industry uses. Meaning an expansion battery (DIY) would have to be built from scratch and not cobbled together from scooter packs or something. 8S LiFePO4 is the standard 24V but that’s 3.2V nominal and these are 3.6V.
Take the cable going from battery to inverter and turn it into a parallel cable with two outputs. Then run that output into a buck converter that supports a wide range 24V to 12V. This is going to be 28.6V nominal and 33.6V full charge so you might have to find a buck converter that can do 36V/24V to 12V. Obviously you’re going to need a large buck converter if you want a high amperage output. These cells “should” be capable of 20A if they are Samsung 25R clones which I suspect they are just based on the model number. So 10 in parallel gives you 200A at 29V nominal which would be almost 500A at 12V
Obviously that would leave nothing for your inverter and you definitely do not want to run the cells that hard. You could steal 5A at 29V nominal and still get about 12A at 12V for 144W
I'm getting more and more convinced this guy is a time traveller and Will Prowse is his younger self.
Ya know, there's an increasing number of comments comparing me to Will for some reason. I don't understand! Also, pretty sure we're only 1 year apart.
@@LithiumSolarhaha do a DNA test to see if you are related.
@@LithiumSolar or do a video together and break tech TH-cam haha
Have you done a charge and discharge test to see its real capacity?
Any idea if this could charge an electric car away from home while camping?
Ordered mine today cant wait to get mine
Wish i would have held off getting the extra battery
@@-justnoah-5330 I'd rather have the 1800 watt version and the extra battery is a real pain to deal with mainly the cable and plugging them together.
Do you think these batteries can be replaced after a couple of years of usage?
It's not designed to be serviceable or replaceable.
Hi, thanks for the informative video!
Does anybody knows what exactly doing the red 1-2-3 switcher showed on 11:40 ? Is it possible to easey switch a River from 110v to 220v ?
Also, have a question related to River Pro Extra Battery: can I somehow update a battery firmware my own ?
Looks very well built 👍🤪
Are all the Ecoflow units Defective? They dont has low voltage cutoff on the usb and my units keep getting bricked when I leave anything on the usb outlets too long and all they want to do is send me a replacement. This unit has a factory defect they are not fixing
Awesome video! THANKS!
They gave me an ecoflow river 2 max but it doesn't turn on by chance, you don't know what it could be. I would appreciate if you help me
Any idea why they turned the AC power output connections sideways which would make it difficult for many larger power cords to connect?
Is the solar charging input a standard size xt60? I have a solar charging cable that came with my Bluetti AC200P It looks like a xt60 but is too big, so I had to order a new one from Ecoflow.
Gracias muy útil esta información, se ve bien terminado por dentro el dispositivo.
Great video, can you do a teardown of a Ctechi 320wh please?
Great review
4Vx2500mah = 10Wh, by 80 Cells, that
means 0.8KwH initially installed.
Even if down grade 20% after 500 cycle,
it should be better than 0.6KwH spec.
3.6x2500x80=740,000=720wh
That’s the spec. You use the nominal voltage to get the correct wh rating. Your average voltage throughout the discharge isn’t going to be 4.0V. I would guess that Ecoflow also puts a buffer in for the low cell voltage. Instead of 2.5 or 2.75 you’d typically see 3.0 or higher since you only have 10% below 3.0
Maybe someone know for What is this DIP red switch ? Thanks !
Nice review! Even though I had no clue what you were saying.
Nice tear down video..
Hello. Can I charge river 2 USA version (110 v by manual ) via just an adapter in Ukraine where is 220 v ? On the plug plastic input I found the note 250 v. Does it mean ok for 220 v ? In spite of manual says 110 v
I assume they using the internal inverter as power supply to charge the battery. that's quite clever!
Amazing 🤩
Thank you, sir.
Can you do the same video with the Ecoflow Delta Max and Delta Pro?
Hi
How many volts work the battery?
I enjoyed your video thanks
Looks like its going to be a pain to replace the 18650 cell after a few years of use. These manufacturers really need to think about the ecological impact of making replacement of their consumable parts difficult to replace.
This is why I went with a Max instead of a Pro. It'll be really easy to just screw off the bottom battery to replace.
@@Andy-Mesa In case that you could still purchase a new, fresh River Max bottom battery in a few years... Furthermore that bottom battery is only half of the capacity. The other half is still installed non reparable in the River Max case.
Im affraid manufactures would prefer you just to buy a new product than repair an old one and deliberatly design a product that is difficult to repair whilst at the same time telling the world their company is enviomently friendly
is there a way to remove the wireless transmitter?
How many 18650's are inside? 40? Thanks...
Really interesting.
i like ur video thanks , and 2 years later meme: Cap left the chat xd
Using the app is the only way to turn Xboost on?
Yes, unfortunately
@@LithiumSolar Thanks for your response. Is it true this is enabled by default when you receive the river pro? And if so, does leaving the "x-boost" on at all times cause any issue while using smaller watt appliances?
What's the power rating?
How many 18650 cells total? 40 or 80???
@LithiumSolar have you tried to connect a flooded battery to that XT-60 cable connecting to the expansion port?
It's unfortunate they are not producing the Pro Link to add extra batteries outside of their own brand
You can connect any battery you want up to the solar input.. You have to furnish your own way to charge that extra battery though.
@@louispoche4312 I'm talking about the XT60 on the extra battery input. if instead of connecting the extra battery in the proprietary port, just connect another battery directly in the extra port XT60
@@DSeeKer The extra battery port is not an XT60.. it is some kind of "D" connector with extra large pins.. but you can not connect another battery there. You can connect any battery up to 25 volts up to the solar input though.
@@DSeeKer Oh.. I see what you are saying ... the xt60 that connects to the BMS board from the EB port..I doubt that it would work... The main CPU would have to tell the BMS board to turn on the input from that port and without communications with the extra battery it probably won't do that.
Really interresting !
How many 18650 akku 2500mah are built in there?
Any idea how to hard reset/ restart River Pro Extra Smart Battery? My unit's power button is flashing and unable to turn off the unit after full charge
Sir, how long have you had the pro?
Same here.
