alam kung bakit slim mga tao noon kasi hindi pa uso fast food ang mga street foods nuon mga kamote,mais,nilupak,nilagang saging at binatog ngayon puro luto na sa mantika noong 80s ang humburger at hotdog pangmayaman lang akala ko kung ano ang french fries patatas lang pala

I was in manila in 1985
I was just 7 yrs old from a province in panay. I stayed in manila for a year. When i went home to my province i stepped on a baby child...the child cried and i asked my mom whose child was it and she told me it's your brother. My mom was 44 yrs old at that time. Yes it was already chaotic at that time.. shantytowns were mushrooming around manila. I used to dig a pile of garbage to look for toys, etc. It's a memorable experience.
At last somebody said it. I think it was even worse before. Kasi lagi nila sinasabi na 'disiplinado' pa raw mga Pinoy dati by judging these type of videos. Yan ung time na nagsisimula nang maging pa-urong ang Pilipinas.
The clip is very crisp.. it's as if the video was taken just yesterday. Great job! History buffs like me finds this kind of videos very interesting.

As shitty as Metro Manila is, the air quality is better now than in the 1990s! Back then, I rarely ever see the Antipolo Hills clearly from Ortigas Center! Now I do quite often! I am speaking as a late 80s baby who grew up in the 90s and 00s.
This shows that people then looks decent than today...im so glad i experienced this life while growing up in early 80s in on the metropolis area..im a young boy at cooper street paraiso frisco...

I missed this era, this is back when people actually conversed with one another and respected the elders. You can stop and ask any locals for directions. Everyone always say good morning to you good afternoon here and there. It was a simple happy life that I’m also glad to experienced growing up. Now everyone is on there phones. It’s amazing how it changed over the years. Everyone doesn’t rely on anyone anymore.

Hindi pa masyadong uso yung car loan noon. Saka ang type ng mga tao noon yung owner type jeep na pinapa-assemble. Mas astig kasi ang dating, feeling mo ikaw si Max Alvarado or Paquito Diaz.

I live in one of the beautiful provinces here in Philippines, most of you might've not even hear this but it's Catanduanes, the land of the Howling winds. And to tell you? this was still fairly similar to our place- before the covid pandemic and such, especially in farther municipalities from the capital. We might've lost this Manila, but the resemblance still stands on different places. I couldn't imagine what would I feel if what I'm trying to justify would fade when the time comes and modernization would inevitably take place.
I remember all Good memories in my young age..

Amazing pictures from history. Sometimes it's the everyday things that prove so captivating. I was 22 in 1985, in the UK, with no money, dreaming of faraway places like the Philippines. I finally made my way to SE Asia in 2014 for the first time. I still haven't been to the Philippines. It's on my bucket list. Thank you for this beautiful snapshot from the past.

Pansin ko ang papayat pa ng mga tao noon, kahit may mga edad na yung iba di sila masiado mataba, parang pangkaraniwan lang mga payat nung araw, di tulad ngayon although may mga payat pa din pero halos karamihan na ng mga Pilipino malalaman na ang mga katawan, or yung iba chubby or obese, di tulad nung araw na parang bihira lang makakita ng matataba, di kaya dahil kasama din sa pag bago ng panahon ang pagbabago din ng mga naihahalong mga sangkap sa pagkain natin na nakakataba?, plus ang pag dami din ng mga fast foods, resto, café's, mga trendy food business, at pag dami ng mga junk foods sa market kaya medio nagkakalaman na ang mga katawan ng mga Pilipino ngayon compare nung taon sa video?
at if you would also mind, mahirap ang pagkain noon, or at least spending power ng karamihan ng pinoy. thanks martial law policies.

Tama, ugali pa naman ng mga pinoy kahit tumigil na yung jeep malapit sa bababaan nila, di pa din sila bababa, paparahin pa din nila mismo sa tapat kung saan sila bababa, kahit malapit lang yung huling tinigilan ng jeep, tamad kasi maglakad ang mga pilipino ngayon kahit napakalapit lang sasakay pa, di din natin masisisi mga kababayan natin dahil napakainit at napaka-usok maglakad sa labas, di tulad sa ibang bansa na malamig ang climate at less pollution kaya marami pa din mas preferred na maglakad sa kanila, tulad sa New York, Tokyo London, Paris or Buenos Aires.
Epekto yan ng GMO crops na inaprubahan ng gobyerno at sinimulang ibenta sa publiko noong 2003. Ma-obserbahan after a few years ang daming nagtabaan, pati na mga artista. Nakita ko epekto nito sa labrats na puro GMO lang pinakain... nagsilakihan at mga obese compared sa control rats. Then after a few more months tinubuan ng mga tumor sa katawan, Iwasan nyo GMO. Kainin nyo lang organic.
Dapat certified-organic, non-GMO food. Grass-fed beef, milk, organically-diet fed chicken, eggs or pork, are okay pero dapat certified. Pero di lang sa meat. Dapat wasan din mga GMO potato (pati chips), corn (pati corn oil, corn chips), soya (soya oil, soya milk), at iba pang hinayaang crops ng gobyerno.

The jeepneys back then were notably have shorter bodies and we can still see those jeepneys today na kakarag-karag na but can still do their job.

i'm so fascinated about how people spend their time back then without cellphones and gadgets and i used to say how lucky i was to be able to have such advanced technology to keep me entertained for most of my time but i must say, when my mom used to describe that time i feel jealous because she was close to everyone in her neighborhood and would talk about how much fun she had playing and interacting with them. It was simpler back then and everything thats normal now used to be so exciting back then.
I was there in the 70's, Olongapo City ,the streets were so clean and tidy,they shamed many European towns, the people, though extremely poor were so very friendly to myself and my shipmates. sad to see so many small kids barely dressed, no shoes yet seemingly happy.LOvely People. Terry Offord

The street shots were taken if i am not mistaken along Pedro Gil Street formerly Herran St. near Concordia College in Paco, Manila.

Meron na talagang Good Quality Camera noon pa kaso bihira lang meron kasi ang mahal nyan
Kaya malinaw kasi 35mm film camera ang ginamit. Iba ang film camera sa Sony Betamax tape at Pioneer VHS tape. Mas less din ang pag-deteriorate ng quality ng film kaysa sa tape. Kaya yung mga nag-upload ng 90's VHS Tape footage ay mas mukhang luma dito, dahil mas na-deteriorate na husto yung video footage. Kung ginamit nila nung 90's ay parehas dito na film, ay malamang maganda at malinaw. Kaso napaka mahal ng 35mm film. Siguradong mayaman ang kumuha ng footage na ito. Or baka part ng documentary ng isang studio network. Kasi may mas murang film naman dati, yung Super 8mm film, ayun ang pinaka mura, kaso maliit lang ang crop footage niya. Eto medyo cinematic na quality na, 35mm.

Taga San Andres Bukid din ako. Sa Radium Street, between Dagonoy and yung kalye ng Holy Family church. Noong 1985 ay 2nd year high school ako at nagji-jeep papasok sa Letran Intramuros. Nilalakad ko mula bahay hanggang sa Augusto Francisco at doon ako maghihintay ng jeep na either San Andres-Paco-Taft-Padre Faura, or Guadalupe-Makati-A.Francisco-Leon Guinto. Kung sa Leon Guinto ako bababa, lalakarin ko isang kanto papunta sa Taft Avenue at sasakay ng jeep na papuntang Quiapo, or Santa Cruz, or Divisoria, tapos ay bababa sa Lawton. Pag sa Padre Faura naman ay bababa sa kanto ng Taft or sa may Ermita kung saan dumadaan ang mga jeep na papuntang Lawton
