    The ride will be the same except for big bumps, that will cause some decent bucking. My experience was with the black springs which are a little harder.

    • @stuffyoucando2
      @stuffyoucando2  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I assume you mean an unloaded ride will be the same. It really depends on how close to the axle the spring is, which can be changed depending on if the provided spacer is used. In my case, I used the spacer, which put the spring very close to the axle, even unloaded. The spring contacts the axle during just about any suspension travel in that case, leading to a harsher ride. I didn't experience "bucking" though, which might be because you used the heavier duty springs. I considered getting those, but ultimately decided the blue ones would be more what I was looking for. Thanks for watching!

      In my follow up video you can see that in my case, the spring was just touching the axle, but I had a cap on this truck as well, and I also had the spacer that the manufacturer provides installed. If I had left that out I would’ve had about a one inch gap. Here’s the link to that video: th-cam.com/video/d_gaPH8qYyw/w-d-xo.html

    Good video, I went with Timbren SES on my 2020 F150 due to the bottom bracket they have. The risk of rubbing or pinching a brake line with the sumos worried me. The SES is progressive like Sumo, unloaded truck rides great.

    With a 750lb TW the WD hitch should be all that's needed to level both the trailer & TV, (BOTH must be level to mitigate trailer sway). I get a kick that none of these 'reviews' include CAT weights. (the 'actual' load) on the axles & tires. Do you have the CAT weights of both the TV alone loaded for camping, the trailer alone loaded, and then hitched with and without WD set? That is really the best way to determine if the rig is balanced properly and that you are within the axle & tire load ratings. (something a lot of folks ignore) .

    Thanks for your video...sorry if you already answered this question. I just installed SumoSprings and my concern is that the bottom of the new spring/pad/block now rests on the factory stop without any load on the truck. Should there be a gap? The factory spring/pad/block had about a 3-4 inch gap which was why I thought I needed the sumo. Thanks!

    • @stuffyoucando2
      @stuffyoucando2  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you installed the spacer that’s provided you can remove that and you’ll get the spring an inch shorter. It’s not a problem if it touches, the ride will be a little stiffer because of it though.

  • @johnvaras1764
    @johnvaras1764 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Installed on my 2018 raptor. I used no spacer and cut the bottom ring off. It would hit when driving messing up my ride. With cutting the bottom ring off ride is perfect. Only lost 1 inch in sag till then hit the axle.

    • @BLAKJAKG
      @BLAKJAKG 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      When you say bottom ring, you mean cut off a chunk of the material and the bottom indented area?

    • @alkalk8938
      @alkalk8938 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I had a similar problem, I decided to buy a set of the softer blue springs made for trailers, they are an inch shorter giving 2" of free ride before engagement. You can swap them back and forth with your long blue or black springs in less than 5 minutes without jacking the truck up. Costs another 250...that's the downside

  • @fordsakata8543

    When the truck is unloaded and without trailer, are the Sumo springs touching the axle? Do the springs affect the ride when unloaded? Thanks.

    • @stuffyoucando2
      @stuffyoucando2  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      On mine, the springs just barely touch the axle because I have the optional 1" spacer installed and a cap on my truck. The ride doesn't feel too much different, but I'd say it's a little stiffer than before without a load on it. If you install these and leave the spacer out, there would need to be more travel before the springs would touch, so the ride should be the same as stock when unloaded.

    My question is did the height in the back of the truck change when not loaded and with the sumo springs installed? I have a tundra that I’m thinking about putting these on but I don’t want the back of my truck sitting any higher than it is now when it’s not loaded. I don’t like the front of the truck sagging look haha.

    • @stuffyoucando2
      @stuffyoucando2  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, the springs do not lift the truck beyond the factory height. I have the 1” spacer installed that comes with the kit and it still doesn’t raise it. Leaving out the spacer would leave even more of a gap between the spring and axle.

    Curious...When towing a trailer like you have, you should be using a weight distributing hitch. Ford actually requires it for any trailers over 5k#. I’m curious if you are using weight distribution, and if you are, did you have to readjust it after installing these.
    Currently I get zero sway, my truck rides with my trailer at the same height as when it’s unloaded when using the weight distribution. However I do have a ‘softness’ in my truck when towing. I don’t have heavy duty tires (which will help with stiffer sidewalls) but was looking for a something that might help in the mean time.

    • @stuffyoucando2
      @stuffyoucando2  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes I do use a WDH, and I mentioned in the video that SumoSprings are not a substitute for a WDH. As for readjustment, I did go through the set up procedure after the install as it did impact how the truck sat with the trailer on it. In fact, it’s a good practice to do the set up each time as the trailer tongue weight may differ depending on the trailer cargo, such as if the water tanks are full or empty. Thanks for watching!

      @stuffyoucando2  ปีที่แล้ว

      I liked the simplicity of these over bags. I considered Timbrens as well but after reading other reviews decided to give these a try. The ride is stiffer, but I’ll note I had the spacer installed with allows less travel before the spring touches the axle. Without the spacer would be a little better, but it’s not unbearable, just noticeable.

      It comes down to how much you want the suspension to travel before the axle touches the spring. No spacer will be a little better ride, but will sag more before getting any benefits from the helper springs.

      Most of what I’ve read about Timbrens eluded that the ride would be pretty rough. On the same token, I used to drive a work truck with air bags and it was fairly harsh when there was enough air in them to support the extra payload. I also liked the simplicity of the SumoSprings and know someone who uses them on an RV with good results so I thought I’d give them a shot.
