I'm tip toeing may way around cv for the first time. Yes I'm late, even with responding to your comment. You might concider me sort of an lfo in and on its own.
(almost) *eight* years later (1 month short at the time of writing) this video is _still_ one of my all time favorites. A better intro (IMO) and... showing how small things can lead up to big results. These days I even use Pulsar with MIDI out to do the same as shown in the video, but in my case I like to control Absynth 5 or Serum. Reason was _WAY_ ahead of its time, it always has IMO.
I honestly think this is one of the best Props video's out there right now. It sounds good (though most do), its easy to follow AND recreate, and also has some humour in it though not over the top. My all time favourite at least.
the tutorial was great . the retro humorous style was priceless. Yes a regular dry as uncooked oat meal tutorial would have worked just fine.... but I'm watching, listening and learning with a smirk on my face because I have been entertained. thanks
Slight correction, it's a noob tutorial but far from a noob tool. Pulsar can do things that the other LFO's in Reason cant. James and Mattias will be showing you some of Pulsar's advanced tricks soon.
I'm honestly happy to see that you guys haven't lost your touch... This is totally opposite to the stuff I criticized on "in that other video". Clear, to the point and the most important part: leaves you wanting more! Even though I'm quite happy with Reason 4 I think its awesome to see how the product is really maturing into one heck of a DAW!
Man, these videos you guys do are always so well thought out and executed. What takes me 6 minutes to explain at a very basic level, you guys can explain in 60 seconds in a very clear an concise manner. I know you guys have resources and plenty of practice, but hopefully I can get my videos closer to this sort of clarity. Anyway, just wanted to comment and say "Bravo" on another great explanation and device!
you did it again. Here I was all happy with tracking in Ableton and then I watch this. The tones are just sick groovy! I've learned more about sounds composition by playing with Reason's intuitive hardware metaphor user interface than I ever imagined was possible. I like the simplicity of Pulsar for this, um, reason. Thanks for the free upgrade to 6.5 for 6.0 owners and thanks for keeping these tuts coming
All looks so easy for some people, so daunting/ complicated for others, I know people who have Reason since 2.5 and never made anything even this good, yet they can play guitar very well.
FM uses sine waves, if you want to achieve that the FM setting on subtractor can give you similiar tones, but what you describe is really just another way to achieve the kinda bass sound in this video.
It did. The patch is called "Cosmo Pad 1". It's in the Reason Factory Sound Bank. Just turn down the reso to about 3/8ths and you have what their using.
Yeah Pulsar is a Rack Extension and all Rack Extensions require Reason 6.5. Fortunately, Reason 6.5 is a FREE upgrade from Reason 6 so you're already sorted. You just need to download it.
Oh no worries, you're asking good questions... not derisive at all. James and Mattias our Product Specialists will be showing off advanced tricks Pulsar can do for advanced users like yourself. Don't worry... that stuff's on its way. :)
Exceptionally professional video, Thanks! I haven't enjoyed a Prop's video this much since the marketing video for Reason Pianos. I also like the certificate idea.. Prop's should have a school. Reason is actually a little more complicated than some of the other DAW's and tools out there, glad this video actually made mention of this instead of the old "Reason is for musicians..". Well yes it is, but really only gear heads get the most joy from tweaking. Another plug for a VST/AU RE:)
Because Pulsar can do much more than this... this isn't a display of all its power, it's a getting started tutorial for people new to LFOs. There'll be much more on Pulsar to come from James and Mattias that'll get into Pulsar's dual nature, uses for the lag/shuffle/phase knobs which aren't on thor, and routings that will show advanced users how Pulsar really sets itself apart.
None of the other LFOs have shuffle, phase, or lag...which aren't shown in depth in this tutorial since the're advanced. Also (again not in this tutorial) Pulsar's ability to interact its two LFOs is wholly unique to all else in Reason. The magic happens in the back of the rack with combining and mingling the two signals to do things otherwise impossible. But this is a "getting started" tutorial, not a promo so it's made for people who are new to LFOs, have Pulsar, and want to get going with it
Glad to know Pulsar, loved that tool but it is hard to find in Utilities... I just upgraded to 9.2 from 7.1.1 and it has been amazing where Reason came! I have been using your Virtual Studio not (DAW) since 2.5 version :) and EMT 140 reverb is just great ohhh yeah... you guys made my dreams come true what can I say it has been an amazing journey. You guys definetely playing for the top.I really dont get people who uses and loves their crash effective Pro Tools... Propellerheads any suggestion for the best effective multiband compressor from shop as RE? I know that there is you multiband compression combinator but I just wanted to know I have seen Flower Audio 4Dyne and Red Rock Sound Multiband Processor which one would be the best choice? I guess I should try each of them anyway.Thank you guys.I love Propellerheads you guys are awesome thanks for making our dreams come true
Some of your best rack extensions are ones without presets like this! I do miss the Line 6 Amp presets though. I would always mess around with them. I hope to see you guys make some Softube amp Combinators in the same way. Maybe using Polar. That is crazy good on guitars.
lol yeah you can! I love doing that :P I'm simply supporting the fact that the Pulsar brings a nice new variety of modulation routing options and synth tones to the table! not just a rehashing of previous devices, otherwise Props wouldn't have made it!
It can be used as a mono synth, yups. It can also be used as an awesome AM device ;) Instead of using the CV try mixing the audio output of a regularly setup LFO device into your main audio :) Pulsar is way more extensive than its easy appearance may make you think.
Love the vintage 50's look to the intro, really love Pulsar, but at 7:02, "contratulations"?? If you guys need a Reason-addicted English 2:1 honours degree graduate to check your copy I'm available! ;)
omg thank you so much I needed a video about pulsar I am going to create all the sounds I can what a cool rack extention, so when are you guys sending the Diplomas....lol thanks propellerdheads
Was 'ContraTulations' @7.02... a message for all the musicians who after watching the video did start ContraTicting their knowledge with their previous mediocre DAW's
Nice video, been using Pulsar in all my new tracks since I downloaded it. You can also create some great Venetian Snares style drum sequences with it, good stuff :)
Been using Pulsar today. It's been an incredibly frustrating experience sadly. I tried to use Pulsar to trigger a drum instrument, and leverage Pulsar to create a drum roll. I also wanted the drum roll to sound a bit more realistic by having the first few hits at the beginning of each bar a bit accented. But meh. The "sync" settings didn't quite do it with 1/64 or 1/32 settings, the non-sync settings allow me to find a frequency that works better but then it's a nightmare to sync with LFO 2, there are hiccups with the sync, also the square wave shape LFO I think starts low then goes high ? Because in order to get the beat to start when I hit the key I had to use the inverted CVouts instead of the direct ones. Tried syncing using the envelope trigger, tried ticking the various sync LEDs to get a steady beat on time: no such luck. I think I'll just manually and painstaikingly write my drum roll in the sequencer and call it done. Couldn't get Pulsar to do it even with a lot of effort.
Thanks for this tutorial. Last night I've tried to make the same tune to learn how to do that. I've found the rex loop, but it was missing the Kong to add some low kick. All is working well (Pulsar is great) but my 4 bars don't sound like yours. Maybe I haven't found the exact chords, maybe I have missed something. Could you share the "song" file ?
Please provide a link to a high res version of the certificate :) I love the Reason stamp thing on the bottom. That would make my wall look so much cooler :)
I honestly couldn't function without this device. There's never enough LFO's!
I'm tip toeing may way around cv for the first time. Yes I'm late, even with responding to your comment. You might concider me sort of an lfo in and on its own.
Reason is the most slept on DAW. There are so many options to be creative and I LOVE it!
3 years after being published this one is still a classic :)
seriously the fact that they crack jokes in the middle of these is awesome. Love Reason, and the guys behind it.
I swear, you guys make the best videos. Both educational and entertaining.
This was fucking excellent. Best free line of tutorials I've ever seen. I would pay for more of these.
Congratulations, you've successfully created the new intro tune for How It's Made.
I miss how it’s made :(

These tutorials are the reason I paid for the upgrade. Some of the best I've ever seen. 1000 thanks for taking the time to
teach and support.
They should make videos like these again!
I wish more software developers would make videos for their software in this amazing quality!
that's one thing reason do other daws dont
the tutorial was great . the retro humorous style was priceless.
Yes a regular dry as uncooked oat meal tutorial would have worked just fine....
but I'm watching, listening and learning with a smirk on my face because I have been entertained.
thanks
A year later and this song was in my head when I woke up again!
Slight correction, it's a noob tutorial but far from a noob tool. Pulsar can do things that the other LFO's in Reason cant. James and Mattias will be showing you some of Pulsar's advanced tricks soon.
That was so inspiring. I want to delve deeper now. Please more on the Pulsar.
Yep! That track was all reason.
The promotional/tutorial vids you guys do have always been awesome, but the most recent ones are on some next level shizzz. Well done!
OMG! How is this video so good? 🤯
Another fantastic video. Your production, editing, knowledge and humour make these all a pleasure to watch!
Man, these videos you guys do are always so well thought out and executed. the pulsar is wicked. you guys keep taking it deeper n deeper into the reasoning
The visuals are amazing. Really good done video! Fully understood all.
All looks so easy for some people, so daunting/ complicated for others, I know people who have Reason since 2.5 and never made anything even this good, yet they can play guitar very well.
Real dope.... Had it now since it came out but never actually checked what it does.... Now i know ;)

Another awesome video bro..and you are still just only scratching the surface..✌🏾💪🏿💪🏿💯💯💥💥❤️

Is it possible to get the full song from this video: th-cam.com/video/sDT-lHQv3pw/w-d-xo.html ?
Seems like a unit that is so flexible and diverse you could use it on a lot of music production.
Oh no worries, you're asking good questions... not derisive at all. James and Mattias our Product Specialists will be showing off advanced tricks Pulsar can do for advanced users like yourself. Don't worry... that stuff's on its way. :)
Thanks for this tutorial - I had no idea what to do with Pulsar, but I guess it's because I was spoiled by the auto-wiring. Pretty cool stuff!
I love the way they ask in the song: "Is that enough"
Like, "did you learn enough already, can we move on now?" :D
Awesome. At first I though the Pulsar was Meh but after watching this tute it's a great device!
Modularity is where reason is at! More modular devices please!
Nothing but good things come from PH!
This never gets old! :)
Thanks ShelLuser. :) NIce to hear!
Need another video explaining the advance side of this unique device.
Amazing video. Also, the voice over guy is hilarious! These mini tutorials are excellent, thanks!
This is amazing! It's as if you were teaching to create our own synth!
lovin the propellerhead tutorials ! easy to follow and all is explained :)
you can shift the phase of the LFO, create a "shuffled" pulse width, and do cool FM synthesis tricks with it!
That's in the Factory Sound Bank!
0:59: "And however a Theremin works...". LMAO! This is why Props' tutorials rule!
Exceptionally professional video, Thanks! I haven't enjoyed a Prop's video this much since the marketing video for Reason Pianos. I also like the certificate idea.. Prop's should have a school. I very much like this kind of video! Really educational and fun to watch! And of course, Pulsar is great as well :D
hey im new to reason and making musick for that matter,i love these simple totorials from propellerhead........
oh and it's a synth too! with a bunch of cool waveforms...
The demo track here is beutiful!
Agreed - it's just waiting to become a song.

Seriously sick little loop!
Excellent video editing. It was a very knowledgeable video. :)
I woke up with this song stuck in my head.

pacifying angry mobs
reason has a rack for that.
One way is to use Audacity (open source) with the mp3 exporter - I think you have to install that separately.
Awesome! Reason rocks!
0:58 "...And however a Theremin works...", ROFL. It took me a while but I found more humour in the video :)
Thanks! Helpful tut!
I love you guys!

"PULSAR MAKES IT POSSBILE"
We need more tutorials like this.
How to start with all new Rack Extensions.
Vote this comment if you agree!!

Wow amazing. Please finish it!
great tutorial thank
you - keep them coming...
Quality video as always Props :)
Love the vintage 50's look to the intro, really love Pulsar, but at 7:02, "contratulations"?? If you guys need a Reason-addicted English 2:1 honours degree graduate to check your copy I'm available! ;)
The song sounds like a modern Mark Shreeve thing. Cool!
Very fun!
Helpful, thank you.
How the $(%# could you dislike this?!
omg thank you so much I needed a video about pulsar I am going to create all the sounds I can what a cool rack extention, so when are you guys sending the Diplomas....lol thanks propellerdheads
Easy shuffle lfo, this is gonna be big!
The song isn't anywhere to point. It's just an 8 bar loop I made to show Pulsar doing a couple things.
so amazing !!!
this is like freaking loco! :D ps. i love ur videos: they show things really clearly + they really are funny!
Thank you
Contratulations!
Bassline at 6:05 was my favorite part
Just wanna mention how i like the Giles Reaves Orchestra! Did create that tune in Reason?
Anyone else try and recreate this exact tune? haha. Sounds awesome!
Awesome
Cool, how do i go about sending lets say, multi osc detune amt to pulsar for example ? nvm, figured it out. Best DAW ever.
Was 'ContraTulations' @7.02... a message for all the musicians who after watching the video did start ContraTicting their knowledge with their previous mediocre DAW's
Reasons is the best ever
Freaking. Awesome.
Nice video, been using Pulsar in all my new tracks since I downloaded it. You can also create some great Venetian Snares style drum sequences with it, good stuff :)
8 years late but I'm really interested in using this for Venetian Snares drums!

Hey @PropellerheadSW Can you point me towards the song you made/used in this tutorial? Also thank you for another stellar upload. :)
Please provide a link to a high res version of the certificate :) I love the Reason stamp thing on the bottom. That would make my wall look so much cooler :)
Awesome video :)
