I'm skeptical about the durability of synthetic. Sounds good on paper, but it may not endure the less than perfectly ideal lab conditions of the real World.

The winch didn’t fail, it’s gave 150% and didn’t stop till it destroyed its self. 12000lbs is a lot but with no limits it kept pulling till something gave. My concern with the warm is the limit switch. The capacity and function of the motor is relying on switch. Not of the instinct of the user….. scary design if you need it at 3am in a snow storm. Great looking winch though.

I’ve had the the 16.5ti on my 2017 f250 for 4 years now, it’s a beast! And the way it mounts gives it incredible strength in the frame of the winch and in the bumper.
I pulled out my skid steer buried over the tracks in mud. I had to anchor the truck to a tree. I had just switched to synthetic line and used a snatch block. Was blown away with the strength of the synthetic line. The winch never even broke a sweat.

I have a 12k Warn PowerPlant winch (made in China) mainly for the air compressor on my Ram 3500. The free spool locked up because it wasn't lubricated well from the factory or sat on the shelf too long at the store. Free spool was never smooth and barely able to operate when I first got it so I didn't use it. Rain must of gotten in and rusted up and was even worse where I had to take my Warn apart to get the free spool to work again. All manufactures have their problems.
The Warn 16Ti is a mounting foot forward design which is stronger than the mounting down designs in the 12k and lighter winches. If the bumper flexes, it is likely to bend the connecting bars on the 16Ti winch but since the contactor is separate, not likely to see the same failure as the Badlands.

I really really don't like the factory battery clamps. This is why. You can't put a set of jumper cables on them. My truck have a lot more cables attached to the battery posts than yours. I could not get a good set of jumper cables to reliably clamp. If would have been better to have a large off battery terminal to mount all the high amp accessories. I finally purchased a tow truck bumper mount and wired directly to one of my batteries. I how have a set of 30' heavy gauge cables. But they were not cheap. My old jumper cables were 20' and 00 I have had them for 40+ years. Why should I have to replace something that has been working fine for years?
There are a few nice things about the new cables. The connector is polarity conscience. The ends have a tester which lights up when proper polarity. Just in case there is any question. Also you don't have a to raise the hood to get a jump going. You can connect to the dead car and then pop in the cable on the bumper so there is no chance of arcing around the battery.

Winches are just amazing, I remember 4x4ing with my dad in the mountains, a light snow came in and then melted. So now that steep stretch of tilted cork screw road with a cliff on one side and ditch on the other was now slick with gooey mud and slick surface below and we had to go back across it to get out of there. Luckily forested with trees along the road, my dad had to go from tree to tree to tree with that winch to get us out of there with out sliding down the cliff or getting too close to the ditch. What a boss. lol So happy to see you are doing well Cody!

I agree with the cost factor. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for. As well, some stuff is just overpriced garbage. With Warn, you’re going to pay, but you are paying for a quality item that is dependable and reliable. A winch is like a truck... it’s just better to have more than you need. It's called a fairlead and it's good to put the hook to the side and reel in the slack. The fairlead has a polished surface, winching the hook into it can raise burrs that would wear on your rope. According to the specs, the sound of the winch, at 8 feet, should be 70 dB. Your winch sounds like they forgot to fill the gearhead with lube. I'd get it checked. It could happen. I had a friend, that bought a new Ford truck, 30 years ago. Drove it about 100 miles and the passenger rear wheel and axle came off. When it left the factory, the diff was bone dry.

Warn employs AMERICANS to make these winches (except VR models) They have like 500 employees plus they make a far better winch. Every winch can get a bad name when some whiner complains because they didn't use it correctly but Warn and Ramsey are USA made and have far better quality parts internally and yes, are more expensive but you get what you for. I service winches every day so don't bother arguing the points. Rednecks supporting Chinese winch brands is the most ironic thing I know of. And just to add to the above, the 18000lb is their biggest of that type of winch. The much heavier winches above that start at 20,000lbs but wont fit any typical pick-up or SUV due to massive weight alone.

Would you say Dual Alternators are going to make this winch work better? 😆

It seems like a really nice wench Cody. But do you think that your truck will have enough alternator to handle the power draw? :-)

This jokerstar keeps running a winch after having it more than doubled, mounted to an aluminum bumper, hearing a mechanical failure of some sort and then continues to badmouth a brand because of user error?
Or is he just playing everyone so he could get a free warn?
In the name of transparency he should have shown what the initial failure was and then shown his bumper wasn’t deformed by putting a straight edge on it.

Everyone says that you cant use rollers with synthetic line. Why? I don’t think thats true. What is true is that synthetic has a much smaller minimum ben radius allowing you you to pull at a greater angle and use tools like the x block. Wire has a much larger minimum bend radius and the roller help maintain that radius. They make steel non rollers that are lager as well allowing for that larger minimum bend radius.

Saweeeet. Warn is the only winch to consider. Something else to consider: swap the hook for. Factor 55 Splicer. Personally I prefer closed loop for recovery. No latches or springs to fail.

☝️ I agree! Factor 55 makes some damn good stuff that makes recovery so much easier and safer! Soft shackles are a must and you can never have too many!!

No, no...naw! A $3000 winch is not even the same thing as that Harbor Freight and to to be honest when I looked this Warn up, I was a little pissed. I like things to work too, but $3000 is just plain irresponsible for me and my life. I couldn't have done $3000 even when I was still pulling down 200K/yr!
If it could save my life...maybe, but all it's going to do really is keep me from having a really crappy day. Damn, that is 2 sets of tires(35"), $3K could replace the bent up bed on the truck, OR it would buy a whole separate crappy car that could probably pull as hard as the Warn. So...no. I don't see it at all.

Thousands of dollars in Top of the line power tools.. Uses Allen Wrench! Lol
I know why, but I just find it amusing! You should thank Cody for working harder than he has to. Just to give top notch video content. Obviously you can't talk during the 0.02secs of using a Impact driver. But you can during the 5mins of using a T-handle Allen Wrench! Bahaha! BUT! Sarcasm aside, I think that's what makes his content so consuming. It has that warm fuzzy feeling. Kind of like we got watching Mr. Roger's Neighborhood! Keep doing you Cody! Just giving you a hard time! I wouldn't want u to change a thing!

Sorry to use you as a sounding board, but I have another issue with Buckstop Bumpers that you might want to be aware of. I have a 2004 Chevy 2500HD with Buckstop's Outback Version, plus a Rear Bumper as well. With Shipping, I spent about $4200 on both and after about 18 months of ownership noticed that the thin Powder Coating on both was beginning to peel off. Phone calls to Buckstop indicated that they had some quality control issues during the time I purchased these and due they were beyond the 12 month warranty would not do anything about them. And sadly, they seemed pretty rude about it i.e. they really didn't seem to care. If you look at Buckstop's Yelp Ratings, they are only a 2.5 out of 5 with primary complaints being failing to respond to phone messages or emails, poor customer service, a Power Coat that Peels and long lead times for their products. That said, the next time I decide to buy a Winch Mount I'll look elsewhere.

For this kind of price, the labels should be laser etched. I find many companies these days seem to be cutting corners. Some of the biggest companies feel that they are go to companies for certain products so they say "What The Heck", people will buy our products even if we do cut corners because they are pre-programmed to buy us anyway. This is pure nonsense. You do not see Patek Phillipe or Rolex cutting corners, you do NOT see Porsche or Ferrari cutting corners, you do NOT see Luxx or Orion optics cutting corners. You do NOT see Siemens, Stahlwille, or Wright tools cutting corners and so on. If Warn is watching this pay attention because some of us are willing to pay top buck for our items but can also drop you like a bad habit if you cut corners. Don't just try to live on past reputations, continue to build on those reputations by continuing to make your products even better and more revolutionary. I work hard for my money and if I am going to part with it you better give me something GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!! in return.

Cody, I think your Warn and Badland winch failures were due to the aluminum bumper that flexed enough to cause the failure of the Badland and if the Warn would have held on long enough it to probably would have had the same failure, the all-aluminum bumper mount flexing too much.

That is one nice winch. My only complaint is the comparison of a 3k dollar winch with one that I can get at harbor freight on sale for 500 dollars. I paid 275 dollars for there badland 12000lb winch and it has not let me down yet(05 F250). Have not tried pulling a stump out yet, might try if I get the opportunity.

So funny to watch this entire series of ”winch battle“.
    1. " I think the maturfactruer should give options not to show their branding on the winch hawse" for the badland, then "it'd be great to have that warn logo on there" for the warn
    2. "I dont think Im gonna put hook strap on" for the badland, then leaves the strap on warn.
I don't know what youre into Cody but this is something funny.
