I appreciate what you do. I started following you years ago when I found you were one of the few individuals willing to demonstrate how to properly care for and sharpen an axe. Your emphasis on how to appreciate the quality and functionality in the tools that we use is a very important contribution to a world where so many men have been raised without a father or grandfather to impart that wisdom. I don't feel you need to be pressured to always be perfect. I am not sure the internet will come down on you when you don't have the answer right off. I think you will find that if you try something new and mess up getting the bugs out, your audience will be right there with you. In real life, even experts have to work around and through problems, and they even make the wrong call from time to time. There are lessons to be imparted in finding the answers as you go, and how you deal with mistakes. Thank you for being self aware and reflective. You are right 99% of the time; that 1% of the time that you are not is just God's way of keeping you humble.

1:20 What’s funny is in the early days he threatened his audience with being blocked if they put negative comments on his videos. It scared me because I enjoyed the content but now felt that if I was critical of anything I would get blocked from the channel. This is the same man that now say “what happens when every comment you read is positive…” (paraphrasing) so it’s kind of a sin of his own making. On my channel I get hate all the time, but I’m happy to read it because sometimes your critics are right. 7:02 his antidote to becoming prideful and haughty was to live stream to only sycophants and super fans?

So much of what you talked about rings true for me, especially where Pride is concerned. My occupation became so much richer when I gave up the idea that I knew/had to know everything, and started approaching every situation with the attitude that I had something to learn. I stared mentoring junior people, and much to my surprise I found that I was learning as much as I was teaching. I am so much more capable now because of it, though I do have to constantly correct myself when I slip back into pridefulness. Thanks for sharing this.

We started because of a stupid cinnamon challenge my employees told me to do. Then recorded a few of my obstacle course races, youtube asked us to be a partner, and then we made videos on fixing vehicles mostly but a bunch of other stuff, just hoping to make enough to help survive in the new world. The last 3 years our small monthly check has put in half though even though we get the same or more views now.
So we just hope that our videos will at least eist make back the cost of the parts of the repair on our vehicles.

This, was the best video I have seen by anyone. Trust me, I am not a yes man. I served my country alongside my heroes and those i looked up to in life. So I don't have any of them on TH-cam. But, I totally appreciate and applaud honesty. I agree there is work and effort in doing TH-cam. But that's the same with any job and or profession. So I disagree with TH-cam creators. That go on and whine and seek sympathy for all the jobs and hard work and demands and decisions and responsibilities....... pull up your man pants and get over it. So thank you for being honest and sharing this content. Additionally thank you for not calling yourself an influencer. You're a content creator, a host of your TH-cam channel.

Ive been around youtube long enough to see a lot of good guys making great content, as the guy with the 60-80 peers on regular basis, you talk about. And this video is really a great relief to finally hear from a content creator like your self. Keep up the good work, do what you like. If making that live stream in the mornings, helps you remember and secure your entusiasm for your work, that is truly wonderfull. You should always do what feels good in your stomach, that is the best way to go in the long run. Long time follower here. It's rare that I comment. Yeah I value all the "how to" content you provide but it's moments like this that are most meaningful to me. For me you are an example of a man who is living into the challenge of balancing the power of masculine leadership with humility, gentleness and the strength of vulnerability. It's been videos like this over the years that have reminded me to "check myself" when I might be getting too "big for my britches" so to speak. There's no better reminder of staying humble than the choice of adorning yourself with the "SWEATLOAF" necklace. That to me is a powerful measure of a man. Thank you Brother.....

I agree wholeheartedly. I struggled to share anything about myself while making a lot of content that I enjoyed. It does eventually become a business that takes away from the original purpose. It can get to your head, but luckily for me, I don't usually get many personal accolades from viewers. Another thing is how we constantly search for the next bigger and better thing to share. It can be addictive, and not in a good way. It's good to stay humble.

The Dude Perfect guys had a similar experience. Tyler and his wife were on an episode of "I Am Second" where they talked about the channel getting in the way of their relationship. They were able to pull back and reset to a healthy balance. G.I. Joe used to say, "Knowing is half the battle." I think in this case, recognizing your situation is closer to 90% of the battle because it means you were able to step back and humble yourself. That's not easy for man to do. Knowing the truth, however, that is in the bible helps one recognize when one has strayed off the path. God bless you, Cody. You are a light shining on a hilltop to many people. Take solice in that God is using you to reach many people.

So the first thing TH-cam creaters do is bash the naysayers because their comments are not flattering or positive to you. Your analysis is spot on and your actions are no different than other content creators. Good insight on your part.

As a small creator, I felt that pride slide in a little, and I haven't made that many videos in the past year because I saw a slight change in myself. It's good to hear someone else say it. Thanks Cody

I think this video is important for many reasons. It is very in line with what Solomon was explaining in the book of Ecclesiastes. For those who have never read it, please do so. It's not a very long book, but it has soooo much wisdom regarding the vanity of success and power. Ultimately, King Solomon realized that only God can fill that God sized hole in the heart of man.

I've met you in person, and your wonderful family, I've shared meals with you and worked beside you, I've seen you interact with your neighbours, I've shook your hand and looked you straight in the eye, I know you are a good man, a solid person. I know that you work VERY hard on your channel, it's a full-time job, it is work, and you do it very well. I also know you are a flawed human, as we all are, but I know you work on yourself every day.
Respect is what I have for you and I'm proud to say I've shaken your hand, and looked you in the eye.
I have faith that Mrs. W will keep it real, as will your family and friends.
I hope to one day see you again at your new place, share another meal with you, and look you in the eye, and shake your hand once more, and maybe give you another lesson on the wood lathe!
    Cheers from Tokyo!

Fair play for recognising and addressing this. Without blowing smoke up your backside haha. We all see “influencers” thinking they are above others because they have X amount of “followers”.
It’s a result of modern society I think. Shallow egotistical materialism.
It takes a strong intelligent character not to fall into pride.
I think it’s truly wonderful how many awesome TH-camrs who take the time to share tips, knowledge skills etc without becoming insane. I’ve learnt so much from people like that.

I’ve been watching since the old gear reviews. I’ve enjoyed the content. I’ve never been a man of faith, but through this channel, I’ve become closer to God. I have a deep appreciation for this. Thank you. We are all sinners. If I begin to go bad on someone, i begin to measure myself. I remind myself that God’s grace isn’t mine alone. I have enough to do to better myself, I’ve got no business chopping anyone else down.

I look at you as a helpful man, from the beginning when Jack was a little man, and what a fantastic great young man, with the Sweetloaf bringing up the rear as a little sweetheart. We are human and we all make mistakes, it’s how we get better and learn. Thank you for what you do and what you have done and what you will do. Remember, when doing good, there will always be the negative, they talked about Jesus, they will talk about another good man. That’s sad what you have said about FAULT, a politician never admits FAULT. Thank you again.

You say this is not a 'confession', but this is exactly that. Your mind conjured up these thoughts so much, you had to make a video on this topic. My question is, How much money is enough? Since 2010, I have had 4 different TH-cam channels. The first one was just doing it for fun and had mainly stupid worldy stuff on it, so I closed it and started a different one... but in life, you change, your values change, that's just called growing. Then my family started a TH-cam channel and we were rapidly becoming a huge success... until our 'outter' family changed all of that. So we stopped. We didn't have another TH-cam channel for a few years, until just a few years ago. This is not the channel btw... just my personal account... I'm sure you have one yourself. But what I can tell you, we're monetized, we have thousands of subscribers (not millions) bit a very good amount... but we don't run out like a business, even though "it is" to the tax collector... but we don't do it to have sponsors, sell merchandise, etc. We do it just to leave memories for our family. If people want to join and watch us on our journey, great! If I have something to teach my children that maybe they will need in the future for reference, I share that too. I have a terminal disease, so my time is precious. Everyday is a gift and what you see is Exactly what you get. You may sound like that on your videos, and talk all eloquently... but after watching this... I'm sorry to tell you, but you're like a facade face for a store. The people who you hired were looking for a job when you hired them. They can find a new job and they have a heck of a resume to be working for you. I'm sure they'll be fine. Or, are you addicted to the facade of your storefront? Again how much is enough? If you stopped filming... with all the videos you have up... do you think you'll stop making money? Have you not set yourself up business wise, to no longer make money? Your life, is Yours to do with it as you choose. Good day.

A dose of humbleness from time to time is a good thing....God uses that to help keep us grounded and to remember where the source of our blessings come from. Thank you for your honesty and frankness on this topic and I agree that the most beneficial part of your channel lately has been the morning livestreams. God is there and speaks, we just need to listen.
