Please do not get rid of "Travel Thursday Jingle" It is the best! I am starting my world travel next month after a 30 year career. I stumbled across your channel, and "Travel Thursday" motivated me to get moving. I have amassed a material amount of points in the past year, and shared your channel with my adult children. Remember...New is not always improved, and bigger is not always better. Lisa&Josh = Travel Thursday's :). Plus my face looks like yours when you say "Scott's Cheap Flight changed to Going"
Your information is awesome. Have you ever discussed what you prior to YT and how you met? My family appreciates your groundedness (if that is a word) and your progression from your van life to know is amazing.
Just found your channel and I LOVE your content. You are both so upbeat and real. It's incredibly refreshing to see in a space where people aren't honest and sincere. Definitely subscribing!
Not ashamed to say that I binge watched a ton of your videos (old and new) over the last few days and liked as many as I remembered to. This is my first time leaving a comment on a YTV but wanted to say that your content is super inspiring, funny, and down to earth. Though my partner and I just got back from Japan--your videos have certainly tickled my travel bug again. Your Camino I and II videos also made me seriously wonder what that experience would be like for me, to do it my way. Thanks, you two.
Yo. Real talk. I leave these cats playing while I clean my home. Even on mute while I have tunes playing. I just wish them well and the BEST!! Please tell friends. They should be over a million followers by now! ❤
You guys are just awesome, I really love watching your videos, all of them. Your positive approach brightens up any gloominess around. So I wish you all the revenue you can possibly get, you've earned it by sharing the joy!
We are a retired couple and love the way you present your videos. We are working our way thru them starting with the places we hope to travel and your learning videos as well
Hey guys thank you for opening up about your youtube experience. It's a jungle of information and your experience/expertise is so helpful to hear for us baby channels (inspiring youtubers)! Keep up the great work😊
i am literally so invested into this! Ive always been so confused at the whole credit card hacking stuff and am definitely signing up right now for the skillshare class. Please keep this podcast going, i love hearing about all about your travels and how you decided on certain places etc - you guys are also super adorable
Loved hearing more about your TH-cam journey in this video! I've been following you on my personal account for quite a while but wanted to say that I think it's so helpful to be transparent about content creation because it helps break down the misconceptions and expectations that people have about it as a job (especially the finances). My story is a little bit reversed to yours - I started my channel with the intention of eventually making enough money from it that I could travel with it as a digital nomad and this year have been able to start doing that! 🎉 Keep up the great content and congrats on the progress so far 😊✨🌷
hi! thanks so much for taking the time to comment!! This TH-cam journey is definitely something special and we love that it can be different for so many people ☺️ and congrats to you!! your story is so inspiring, so awesome you can travel and illustrate 🥳 keep it up!
Hi Lisa and Josh! I discovered your channel in the past 6 months or so while doing some travel planning and I really enjoy your content. :) I got some great ideas from your Italy and Japan videos! I'm a financial planner in the Montreal area, I get that it can be uncomfortable for some people to talk about their finances. I think what makes you both likeable is your honesty and transparency about what you like, and why you're doing what you're doing. You both just seem like really nice people. I would be surprised if anyone felt differently about you based on what you're earning. If anything, I hope for you that you're able to continue to increase your earnings as you expand your reach, so that you can travel full time and make more content for years to come. Cheers to your continued success :)
Of all the TH-cam money videos out there - Yours was the best. I do not think anyone will ever do a better job. The two best parts of the money talk were: travel videos are in a league of their own and you can't make them after your job.
Wonderful video. Probably the best thing I have watched on TH-cam for years. Please don’t change - the way you are and the way you present things is perfect. Stay safe and keep travelling. Many thanks.
Found your channel while trying to figure out our family gap year travel. You helped to inspire our journey. We completed the Camino de Santiago last year as a family then basically made our way around the world. Thanks for your honesty. Keep the TT jingle :)
You guys can do it. You have cute onscreen personas, your production is pretty good, and I love watching your adventures. I think we've watched your Camino de Santiago videos twice each.
I discovered your channel when doing research on an up and coming trip to Japan. You guys are great! Thank you so much! Keep going! Thank you for your honesty, modesty and being you!
Beautiful-my exact belief, “if everyone had a chance to travel, the world WOULD be a better place”! Amen to that! - and you two are so cute and awesome, keep at it. I want to see you grow old together. Keeping it real. I’ll give you thumbs up every time. Hats off to such courage to go on your own that only some dream about doing. Hope to see you one day somewhere out there in the world. Live! ❤
I've recently come across your videos and this was so invaluable for me to listen to. I just started my travel channel this year, and naturally, watch a lot of travel content. I usually watch vlogs to gain inspiration, but this behind the scenes stuff -- the finances, the lifestyle, etc -- was more enlightening by farrr. Not many creators, specifically travel, do what you are doing and you guys are so relatable -- I agree on so many things. I guess I am going against the grain by making a travel channel while still working my full time job. In order to do this, I am using my PTO (8 days only lmao) as strategically as possible to take several weekend trips around the year and then just trying to "milk" that content for as long as possible. For instance, instead of one video for a place, I am trying to make like 5 videos for each place. The hard part is, like you guys mentioned, is the exhaustion behind trying to fit so much in so little time when you do go on vacation. Anyhow, I appreciate your guys' perspective and realness. While it's an uphill battle for travel creators, I am trusting it's worth it in the end! Thank you for the transparency, I just subbed, and please don't stop making these travel support Thursday episodes!
Hey guys, just discovered you today. Ended up watching this whole video! Thank you for being so transparent -we can totally relate to the part where you speak about being a 'travel' creator in particular is rough on finances haha. You literally have to quit your job and be travelling consistently to have new videos each week! Luckily we've started to rack in a little cash now to help, but it's definitely not a make money quick scheme haha..
Greetings Josh and Lisa, great Podcast and very informative and informational. South Africa, yeah! Your food videos around the world are spot on, keep that up. The cruise ship concept or idea is definitely a no go for me. Thanks for sharing .
You mentioned that before your Portuguese Camino you felt stressed and "over your head." What does feeling stressed and "over your head" mean for you guys? As people, as TH-camrs, and as travelers? Everything is portrayed as fun on TH-cam travel videos, but it also seems exhausting. Is it? What are the behind the scenes challenges?
Hey Lisa and Josh ... just found you. My wife and I can relate on a lot of the things you say in this vid. Just wanting to drop a comment and say good job and keep at it! I (Chris) actually still work and am fortunate that I can do my nerdy work from anywhere, but yeah... the travel content creation can be a grind. :)
I stumbled upon your channel and enjoyed the content and the authenticity! Your video brought back my own memories of HK, Tokyo and Taipei :) I am also making a long term plan to become financially independent and, hopefully, become digital nomad in 5 years time. Your videos are inspiring and helpful for my own planning. Please keep it coming!
Y'all make me feel like a kid in kindergarten. I have to fight every instinct to say "Will you be my friends?". Love the way that you both think and the ways in which you express your ideas. Thank you for the honesty.
Thank you for the transparency regarding income; I've always wondered how financially sustainable the 'travel couple' genre is. Your latest Busan video was great - it's refreshing to see beyond the typical tourist destinations!
Love you guys, relatively new to the channel and just cannot stop watching. You are both so genuine and real which seems to be lacking with the most popular vloggers at the moment. I hope you can do this for as long as you can and I hope much success and more wealth comes your way, as you totally deserve it! Am sure you will have substantially more viewers soon, as you and your amazing videos are just sooo great( no pretence just real and honest).
Love your honesty and transparency. And... I love the Travel Thursday jingle. Ya gotta keep it! (Sorry Josh) 🤣 Best of luck with that Jetstar flight, they don't have the greatest reputation here in Oz, cancelling more flights than actually flying. I am more of the slow traveller, staying in a place 4 - 7 nights, which is what I did in Italy this year and it was amazing. But I totally get it when you have limited time. I lived and worked on cruise ships for 4 years (6-8 month contracts) and I loved it for many reasons. But, I'm sure living on a cruise ship would NOT include tours. I could do it for a year, but probably not more than that. PS. Are you visiting the Gold Coast?
Hi Lisa & Josh, you covered the financial rewards from You Tube resulting from all your hard work but I noticed you didn't distinguish from long form content and shorts, is there revenue to be made from shorts, particularly sumo shorts 😉 Keep up with the videos, really enjoying your whirlwind trips in Asian cities at the moment and cannot wait to see how you enjoy New Zealand in the van. I had an amazing time both times I did that.
Shorts revenue vs other content is definitely something we’re going to talk about soon. Super interesting topic :) And thank you! Can’t wait to bring New Zealand to you
Josh…as a fellow tech hardware nerd I want you to know….many many did I say many…more people want the travel Thursday jingle song than a laptop hardware review. I want the laptop info but….just rock the travel Thursday song whenever Lisa says do it.
We love you and your Videos guys! We have been on the road for over 2.5 years permanently in our Troopy in Australia (thanks to the pandemic crossing our plans). Our income comes from our work as HD Mechanics (that is very lucrative in Australia). We concidered to do the you tube game but thought it's not for us ;-) rather watch you guys, you are doing great! Maybe one day our paths will cross!
You guys rock!! Please keep doing this series. If you start a scholarship or something to promote world travel, please let me know. I would donate toward that and towards you guys. I agree, travel will open up your mind. You both remind me of my husband and myself. We have been married since 2000 but we have kids so waiting for our youngest to start college and will be taking a “gap” year after that. Already planning 3 months in Asia to visit our home country, Laos.
we definitely will, thank you so much!! it's a thing we believe in super strongly, and can't wait to get it started ASAP :) ooooo, gap year with 3 months in Asia, I like the sound of that!
Hi Lisa and Josh, I will live on a cruise ship for a 3.5-year cruise. I will be documenting my trip on my TH-cam channel, which will launch in March/April 2024 @Dr.V.Worldtravel
Do you cancel your credit cards once the points are used? I have several travel cards but can't reapply and get more points. I'm running out of cards to apply for!
I came across your videos because we did 2 Caminos, the Portuguese central and the Frances. I love Europe and we did 3 months in Spain, 6 weeks in Portugal, Greece, France and off to Italy for a month next April. We use airmiles for free travel and have 50,000 points. Where are we going after Italy? Not sure.
This was a great discussion - don't worry, Josh, I thought the money part was well handled and offered a realistic look into travel content creation! One question for next week, maybe - when you were on your 1 year trip, you were on the road for months. Has this now changed to being based in Hawaii and venturing out as the flight ticket gods allow, or do you think you'll head out for a longer trip again? Which do you think is more cost effective? Happy Travel Thursday!
I don't think I could do 3 years on a cruise ship, but I think 1 would be an adventure. I'd probably do it if I had the time and money. I'm still a ways off from retirement, but my plan is to travel for the first few years after retiring. I could see doing a year on a ship at that time.
Thank you for answering!! You pronounced our channel name perfectly! It's a play on words, "empalagar" is in spanish, it's the feeling you get when you eat too much sweet food (or people) and are like DONE, and we anglicized it by adding "tion". We are both argentine, but I'm also british as was raised in an english household so it's a merger of our cultures sort of speak Anyway, the jingle is great, keep it!!! And the audio in this video is waaaay better.
I've been currently watching the 9 month world cruise drama on Tik Tok and that is a definite no to a 1 to 3 year cruise! 😆 Also you'd have to pay loads of extras for excursions.
My husband & I have been on 20+ cruises. The longest was 21 days & we HATED it! We had been on a couple 2 weeks & they were good but 3 weeks on one ship (buffet food was awful). I would never commit to more than 2- weeks again, personally.
Travel is stressful, and I am a intense pre planner. Analretentive my wife might say. Do you prebook some venues, how do you decide which venues to book ahead. Thank you for sharing!
56:00are you saving for retirement? House? Kids in future? Will you travel with them? At that point would you say more near family and make videos there?
I'm doing the travel card hacking thing now! I think I'm up to 10 cards! I have enough points for a free trip to Jamaica next year and almost enough Air France points for free business class seats to Europe! So fun!
Thanks for the video guys ! For a small TH-camr like us , it gives us hope for the future ! Travel videos are hard to make for sure - we sold everyone we owned , quit the jobs and bought a boat to travel around with (not easy!!) Keep doing you, you guys are fun to watch , been following you for years ✌️🎉
hey guys! thanks so much for taking the time to comment! what an incredible journey you guys are on! learning how to sail is definitely on our bucket list, enjoying watching and loving your "do-the-best-we-can" approach! :)
This is one dollar for every week that I got to spend abroad as a backpacker from 2022-2023, and it is thanks to your videos. It was a pipe dream to quit working and spend a year (solo) budget traveling, and I had no idea where to begin. I came across your video on how to plan a travel year, and crafted a monthly task list using your schedule. That assignment was the catalyst for...everything. Anxiety and lack of knowledge kept me from doing it for years, so I used your videos to materialize this dream. As a result, I had the best year of my life and I CANNOT wait to do it again. All thanks to you both!
This is so, so amazing to hear!!! We are so stoked about your trip, thanks so much for telling us! You did it! Congrats!
What was your favorite part of the year?! Thanks so much for your support. your story keeps us going and wanting us to help others do the same!
If you don't mind sharing, was there anything about the video that helped made things click? What helped more vs didn't help?
@@LisaAndJosh it must be so strange to be TH-cam "celebs," because my first reaction was !! They responded to me!!! 😂
I did 6 months in SE Asia (including Langkawi), two weeks in Bhutan to get off the backpacker trail ($$$ but worth it), two months in Germany to chill and stay with the boyfriend I met while traveling, then the last 2.5 months in Africa for an overland camping safari Kenya -> South Africa. It was way epic! I can't pick one highlight because there were superlatives in each place (i.e. island hopping in the Philippines, New years Eve in Singapore, everything in Bhutan, African sunsets, etc.)
The most helpful aspect of that planning video (I think it's from 2021), is breaking the giant task down by monthly priority. It was way more manageable to plan a giant trip knowing all I had to do in Month 6 was renew my passport, for example. And it was an easy way to dip my toe in the water without making a giant commitment....but the more months and monthly tasks I accomplished, the more invested and determined.
The "least" helpful, in my experience, were the cost expectations and the timing of medical appointments. Because it was post-covid 2022, and short staffing was a major issue, I couldn't get all my medical appointments in those last 1-2 months. I should've done that sooner. And, all of the vaccines I needed were $4k out of pocket from the travel clinic! The other post-covid phenomenon was price surges. All prices domestically and abroad went up. But also....you've seen my itinerary...I did more expensive trip segments than you did, so I blew through that $40k budget 😂😆
Other than those two details, I was able to follow your advice to a tee and it worked beautifully.
Congratulations on reaching your Goals ✅✅💯💯👍😀

Love the transparency on this topic guys! The transparency is what separates you from other travel TH-camrs. Keep it up!!

I absolutely love these videos!!
Hi Lisa & Josh, you covered the financial rewards from You Tube resulting from all your hard work but I noticed you didn't distinguish from long form content and shorts, is there revenue to be made from shorts, particularly sumo shorts 😉
Keep up with the videos, really enjoying your whirlwind trips in Asian cities at the moment and cannot wait to see how you enjoy New Zealand in the van. I had an amazing time both times I did that.
Shorts revenue vs other content is definitely something we’re going to talk about soon. Super interesting topic :)
And thank you!
This was a great watch 👍
Thank you for sharing honestly. Really insightful.
New subscriber! Thanks for the travel tips!
Already planning 3 months in Asia to visit our home country, Laos.
we definitely will, thank you so much!! it's a thing we believe in super strongly, and can't wait to get it started ASAP :)
ooooo, gap year with 3 months in Asia, I like the sound of that!
Hi Lisa & Josh! Congrats on surpassing 50K subscribers on TH-cam. My question is where is home base for you guys these days?
Love you guys
Hi Lisa and Josh, I will live on a cruise ship for a 3.5-year cruise. I will be documenting my trip on my TH-cam channel, which will launch in March/April 2024 @Dr.V.Worldtravel
It’s REALLY catchy!! ❤
Good luck to you 2. I enjoy your content.
Thanks for sharing ❤ New subscriber!
Wishing you all the best ❤
Thanks for doing budget travel!!
Do you cancel your credit cards once the points are used? I have several travel cards but can't reapply and get more points. I'm running out of cards to apply for!
Yayyy you're coming back to Hawaii! I started watching your channel a couple of years ago before visiting Oahu and now I live there 🙂
I like the older cabin videos! 😂
We LOVE the jingle🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
👯♀️ yes!! 🥳
Do yall have a video on your back pack, how to pack, and what your personal preferences are? This seems like it would be useful!
Thank you for answering!!
You pronounced our channel name perfectly! It's a play on words, "empalagar" is in spanish, it's the feeling you get when you eat too much sweet food (or people) and are like DONE, and we anglicized it by adding "tion". We are both argentine, but I'm also british as was raised in an english household so it's a merger of our cultures sort of speak
Anyway, the jingle is great, keep it!!! And the audio in this video is waaaay better.
thanks for sharing this with us!! :) we never knew of this word before and now want to use it in our daily vocabulary :) keep it up, guys! :)
I've been currently watching the 9 month world cruise drama on Tik Tok and that is a definite no to a 1 to 3 year cruise! 😆 Also you'd have to pay loads of extras for excursions.
Guys! What happened to travel Thursday? I am getting on Spotify every week and not seeing a new podcast. They made me so happy.
Thanks for your honesty!
Good stuff, Thanks
The way Josh looks at Lisa
I know, right? Just the best.
Thank you, your guys are so inspiring ❤
My husband & I have been on 20+ cruises. The longest was 21 days & we HATED it! We had been on a couple 2 weeks & they were good but 3 weeks on one ship (buffet food was awful). I would never commit to more than 2- weeks again, personally.
It's "all three of y'all" now. The jingle sticks!
I knew you were from the midwest!!!
MinneSconsin here!!!
I used to help sell “world cruises” in my old job. They were way more expensive though… like 80-100k. It was nerve-racking processing those payments!
Travel videos are hard to make for sure - we sold everyone we owned , quit the jobs and bought a boat to travel around with (not easy!!)
Keep doing you, you guys are fun to watch , been following you for years ✌️🎉
hey guys! thanks so much for taking the time to comment! what an incredible journey you guys are on! learning how to sail is definitely on our bucket list, enjoying watching and loving your "do-the-best-we-can" approach! :)
Great video! How do you physically get your new credit cards when traveling the world? (what address do you use)
Just found your channel. Like your content so very much. Stay true and happy travels
thanks so much for discussing credit cards, im so interested in them right now cos i wanna go europe next year!
