When I was traveling internationally long term I was extremely fortunate to be able to bring my job with me. (I've worked remotely for years even before the pandemic). I would get my work done in the mornings then go out exploring the rest of the day. I'll be heading out again for another 6 months of travel starting this fall and can't wait.
What type of job do you do? I'm hoping to transition to finding an online job I can do anywhere and world travel in the next 10 years when my husband retires.
This life isn’t for everyone. We LOVE to travel for 2-3 weeks, but then we love to come home. We truly enjoy the home we’ve built over the years, where we raised our kids. It’s great you two found each other and are enjoying this together.
I love this video. The way I see it, you can always go back to a 9-5 to load up on some funds, but travel experiences are forever and so worth it. It's all about time.
General insurance info: I am NOT a travel/insurance agent. First off, there is a big difference between travel ins(insurance) and global/international health ins. Travel ins almost always excludes pre-existing conditions (from 60 days to 3 years lookback period, depending on policy). It's job is to pay the hospital to patch you up just enough(the term is ambulatory) to be able to travel even if you're in need of surgery in pain, then fly you (medical evacuation) back home to your residence. Most injuries are ambulatory. I once had a floating shoulder (all bones broken connecting shoulder to body) and they were gonna put me on a commercial flight in crazy pain. They may just give you an economy ticket, or pay for a nurse to accompany you, all the way up to a private ambulance jet with doctor. However, once they drop you back off at your residence/nationality country, it usually ends. So you'll have to have residence ins coverage. Also, many of them are secondary reimbursement policies, whereas you have to pay the hospital first, then file for reimbursement which can take anywhere from 10 days to 6 months, depending on company and how much they fight you. Some companies have direct pay networks where they pay the hospital directly (as long as they have pre-authorized the service). More global health ins companies have direct pay networks than travel ins. Global health ins is real annual health ins where you go through an application process, and they cover you for a year. A proper health ins policy application will ask you health questions, and you'll have to go through full underwriting, often providing med records, before you get ins. They will cover pre-existing conditions (as long as you declare any), cover them with additional fee, or exclude them (sometimes only for a period of time like 1-2 years). If you have pre-existing conditions, I recommend you apply to every possible company at the same time, since one question on every app is "Have you ever been denied or rated for ins?" - you can answer no truthfully if you apply all at once. If you can buy the ins instantly, it's travel ins. Global health ins is more expensive because they give the least trouble at claim time and are designed for multiple claims or ongoing conditions, rather than one claim, like travel ins. For travel ins, you can compare on insuremytrip or squaremouth website (put $1 or $500 as trip cost) - you can often get up to 364 days covered. I buy through them so I have an advocate if claim-time trouble. SafetyWing great marketing and affiliates links, but the underwriting ins company (Worldtrips/HCC Tokio Marine) very slow/difficult on medical claims. SafetyWing and InsuredNomads have a TWO YEAR pre-existing condition lookback period. World Nomads also marketing and affiliate links so everyone recommends them. But they're expensive and you get different company/policy based on your residence. For EU/UK citizens, I recommend TrueTraveller - good claim reviews. For US citizens, GeoBlue/HTH - covers pre-existing if have US ins and great direct-pay network with great app for finding providers. For any policy, READ THE DESCRIPTION OF COVERAGE/POLICY WORDING. Make sure it covers any "risky" activites you plan to do. My general rule is to look for the shortest pre-existing exclusion period and the simplist terms, as the stricter the terms, maybe more fight at claim-time. Note you usually have to buy your travel policy before you leave on your trip. For Geoblue, you could theoretically buy a travel policy for 182 days, then return to your residence and buy another policy. Other long-term travel ins providers you can buy after your trip starts are Global Underwriters, Seven Corners(3 YR pre-existing exclusion and plays games with claims), Heymondo(unlimited pre-existing lookback), Allianz Onetrip Emergency Med(only $50k med coverage). With the first two, get the risky/hazardous activies rider if you plan on riding a motorbike/scooter and best value is at the $500-$1000 deductibles. For proper global/international health ins, all policies will want a residence address to put on the application. It's cheaper if you buy from a local national insurer or regional policy, then get the "travel add-on", that covers you for limited trips from your base country - true for South/Latin American. Find the best hospitals where you're based and ask what insurers they direct bill to. You may need a local broker - some brokers only work for one company (like AIA Malaysia). Great website/broker to compare global health ins is pacificprime. Many nomads like Cigna. I know with Cigna, you can change your residence country by notifying them (and pay premium difference). Other major ones are AXA, Allianz, April, IMGlobal, ACS, GeoBlue/HTH/Bupa, DavidShield, Aetna, William Russell, Morgan Price, Azimuth Risk, Globality, Foyer. IMGlobal will exclude anything pre-existing from last 10 years. Pacific Cross has good value in Asia. Get one that is guaranteed renewable. It will take some research. Some expats combine a small local cheap accidental injury policy with separate high deductible health ins. Inpatient is really the only coverage you need. Outside US/Canada/China/Switzerland/Singapore/HK/Macau, outpatient services are incredibly cheap. I've walked into emergency rooms in Croatia, Belgium and Thailand, gotten x-rays, blood tests, urine, and it all came to less than $120USD. I know a couple that had an uncomplicated baby delivery, 1 night in a hospital, in Panama and paid $66USD (yes that's sixty six USD). It was in a small rural public hospital, but they got adequate care. For surgeries, the same Dr often will work at multiple hospitals with different rates (often 2x-6x cost difference), so shop around. Outpatient only becomes expensive if you need chronic treatment like kidney dialysis, or cancer treatments, which some hospitals do as inpatient anyway (so they can bill ins). Drugs bought at the hospital pharmacy are often marked up - get a prescription and use an outside pharmacy. No matter what: READ THE FINE PRINT. Understand your policy. Google unfamiliar terms. Many policies won't cover motorcycle/scooter injuries unless you buy extra rider, and are licensed. Save the emergency number in your phone. I carry the card laminated with me. Many hospitals will NOT treat you without a cash deposit (which will be hard without local family/friends while you wait injured/sick in the hallway), so having an ins company skips that. I once woke up in a hospital with a bad concussion(memory problems) and I'm glad they found it so they would treat me, as I was alone and they had a company to bill and handle everything. Save the claim forms beforehand in your email/phone, so your doctor can fill it out while you're there. It's difficult to get a signature 3 months later when the ins wants it. The #1 coverage you must have is medical evacuation/repatriation - that's the big event that needs $100k+ to get you home and it's why people create gofundme fundraisers. It's designed to cover the transfer to the nearest hospital that offers what you medically need, or to get you to your residence hospital from a foreign hospital. All travel ins and most global health ins include it (sometimes with extra fee). Make sure your travel ins doesn't exclude pre-existing conditions for the med evac portion. Some credit cards offer it if you charge your flights on them (but often have min max days of trip limits). A cheap way, for US/Canadian residents, is to buy membership from Divers Alert Network($35). Or there are European based organizations memberships that offer it inexpensively (often under search and rescue) for their residents. But remember "membership" is not ins, the fine print says they are not obligated to help you. For real ins, annual ACS repatriation(med evac) plan(158 EUR+) or GEOS ($200USD). www.insuremytrip.com/?linkId=6050d4931e531210d45d73af
Wow, thanks for taking the time to share and write out all this valuable personal experience and information! This is so helpful for us and for so many others reading this.
The best thing about your blog is definitely how authentic and straightforward the two of you are. I forgot that I'd seen another of your videos awhile back. This is wonderful content. Congrats!
Thank you for doing this! I just came back from a 23-day solo trip from Japan and Taiwan and am already missing the feeling I got there - being a stranger in an unfamiliar country. It is truly an unforgettable experience for me! Watching videos of your budget trips inspire me to want to push for more trips like this to happen! I hope you guys will continue sharing your experience, and am sure you will naturally generate a strong community :-)
T mobile has an international roaming for free. Make sure your phone is not locked. Then call two sets of numbers, one before you leave and the other when you come back.
Raised our kids, retired early, quit my job, travel the world, we are nine months into what we hope to be four years of our radical sabbatical. Love watching g folks like you who get life is more than work. Go…
I really enjoyed this informative video. And I like that ur videos are not just show offs of luxury but what an real average person goes through when travelling.
Welcome aboard! This is such a great place to start :) Is there anything you wish was in this video that didn't make it? We LOVE talking about this topic
love your videos. I am currently saving for my trip around the world solo. I can't do it all at once as I help my mother and my special needs brother too much but I am planning 2 to 3 month trips with time between so my year long trip will probably take 3 years. I am going to look at your spreadsheet as I love spread sheets.
That actually sounds like a pretty great pace to explore! We often start feeling homesick around 3 months in, so that could work out :) Thanks so much for watching, and for taking care of those around you!
I’m a frequent traveler too and usually I’m abroad months or more at a time. How I deal with isolation is to send pics to my friends and family on my iPad and tell stories about these places. It’s fun when my friends react and ask questions about these places and I learn more by researching to answer their questions. I also stay in my hotel when I’m feeling tired and just relax and talk to other guests. Staying in hostels is nice esp for solo travelers like myself because I’m able to meet other people from all over the world and also learn their culture, language, food etc. I love traveling and I will prob travel until I’m 100 years old hahaha.
Me and my travel friend met right before covid and became friends while learning a foreign language (español). Then we started traveling together and took a trip to Thailand to begin with and plan to travel the world together one day, before her parents marry her off because she is of a different caste and religion altogether in a country full of taboo.
Love love this video...thank you for capturing this beautiful City in detail. I for some reason find myself smiling and watching you guys the entire video and often laughing too cuz you two are ADORABLE!!!!
Travel debit card is recommended. Can set currency and convert straight away in your bank app. Won't charge fees only normal withdrawal fee. And yesss accepted in all Japanese weird 711 atm...
I have watched a lot of your videos, especially the Japan ones. They were very informative. Thanks guys! I lòok forward to watching more of your videos!
27:00 - This is my favorite part of the video where you talk about what to do with cell phones. Good note about porting my number to Google Voice so I can read my US text messages online. I didn't realize know about the Google Fi 90-day rule until this video. I had to look it up. So if the majority of your data usage is outside the US, they will disable it. However, it looks like they only disable the data but not the talk and text part of the plan.
ok i have to admit i only stumbled upon you lovely couple because i watch campervan videos, but now i will be going right back to watch all your Vids.Loving you!!!!!!-take care on your travels!!!
Thank you guys for making this video! I am thinking about the same thing as well for this decade at some point. One year sounds really good plan to stay sane and sensible. Looking forward to watch more of your content!
Thank you very much for watching! It's amazing how much, and how little world you can see in a year - it's a big place. When do you think you want to head out on your adventure?
Loved hearing more about how you all decided to do this! Thank you for sharing! You’re making me rethink my current situation and it’s a gooooood thing!! 👏🏼👏🏼🥰
There are credit cards now that are transaction free such as Capital One Venture card, Chase Amazon Visa card. I’ve used them a lot internationally and they give you money back.
Greetings Lisa and Josh, you both are awesome , keep living your dreams, love it…. New subscriber…. Josh, I am a retired Information Technology Manager“Switching and Routing and Desktop.
Hey guys! I'm very late to the party for this one but have to say, this is one of the best "how and why we travel full time" videos i've ever seen. Even though you are great on camera and slick at editing, you still seem like "normal" people (and I mean that as a huge compliment!). I've been bingeing your Japan and Korea vids in preparation for my trip to both countries in December. Thanks so much for all the great info 🙏
Hi Lisa and Josh, you guys are such happy spirits. Glad I’ve found your story. My partner and I have been professional Housesitters for 10 yrs. I’m Australian and my partner is English. We are in Italy now (a long story) and fly home soon to Oz to try to pick up our lives and settle down. Covid changed our travelling and we are so pleased we got to travel when travel was easy and innocent. Have you considered housesitting in between other things? Lisa, you love cats don’t you? Owners would love you guys I know it. Can provide more info if you’re interested. Anyway, travel well guys. You deserve good things. 😁
Hi Denyse! Thanks for the kind comment and for watching :) Housesitting sounds like a great idea--we hadn't thought about that and that's an interesting thought! we love traveling, but full time travel has its challenges, especially right now. we are hoping to find some more consistency with our home lives and travel lives soon :) and yes, we love cats and can't wait to get back home to our little guy!
as a correction, i have an international plan on my regular tmobile plan. free texts and messaging. yeah, i am not the world traveller that YOU are, but it IS covered and we do travel frequently for shorter trips.
Started watching your channel because at the time I was going to go to Japan. Now, watching this video and Lisa you mention you’re from the bay! Where in the bay did you live?
I love this so much, I’m just about to embark on a years travel next year! And I keep waking up at 4/5am in cold sweats, thinking shall I actually do this? And you guys have brought me so much peace ✌🏻 with my travel plans and I now feel I can do this! So safe to say I am so glad to have stumbled across your vlog! Keep doing what your doing! 🫶🏻❤ big love 💕
@@LisaAndJosh we will let you know and we will be posting on here for our friends and family to see, so I’ll let you know if our channel name! When we can think of one! 😂 our first stop will be bali then on to Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Philippines! We may stop at Laos but haven’t decided yet! 🤟🏻 x
The financial steps you took are very similar to those who are part of the FIRE movement, except their "obsession" is longer term financial freedom (typically in the form of opting out of the workplace). Very similar concepts to what you did! Very curious about the packing video - you two travel so lightly!
yes, we love that FI life, the dream/goal :) we do tend to collect very little, especially since we've been moving around so much. what wearing the same things all the time gets ya ;)
Loved this video and thanks for answering my questions!! Excited to see your packing video :) all the questions you answered really help me as I’m hoping to do some sort of full time travel (even if just for a month or two!) in the future!
Thanks for this video and all the others. My last international trip was in the Spring of 2019 and I can't wait to get back to it. I have 2 domestic US trips planned this Spring and hope to be able to do the Camino in the Fall. You two may be nearing the end of your year of traveling, but I'm sure that after a few months back home that you'll be planning your next epic adventure. After the recent wet weather you've experienced, I wish nothing but sun & blue skies for you during your final months.
Thank you very much for the kind words, and for the good fortune of good weather. We've certainly experienced our share of rain in Australia since we got here (although not as much as others here). Which Camino route do you want to do?
This is great, this series is great! Love it! Thank you for doing this. Not to make light of you homesickness but, there’s nothing great going on back here in the states anyway! You gotta take out a loan to fill your tank with gas and Steph Curry is out for the season with an injury we just learned so now staying home and watching basketball is less exciting for me too! 😂🤣😂 Hotels have skyrocketed, guess they’re trying to recoup all the lost revenue they’ve had. 😕 Well stay safe friends and have fun!
Loved your honest responses. It is a lot to think about & like both of you said, don’t just dream it, put it into action. 🤔 make it real. Lisa! That’s exactly what I write on my journal “I want to travel for loooong periods of time!😎 not just 2 weeks or days. Awww now I definitely need to plan something 🤪😂 Thank you both for sharing 😉
Some of my luddite friends got T-Mobile phone plan for international calls because Google Voice was too complicated for them. Google Fi like many other Google projects typically disappear after three years.
I look forward to your videos and newsletter every Sunday. This video did not disappoint! With these videos you show how easy it can be. I forget if you shared these already. Do you sell the spreadsheet templates that you use for planning?
Hey Jeremiah! Thanks for the kind comment and for watching and following along our journey!! Our spreadsheet for travel planning is free! Could you send us an email at us@lisaandjosh.com? and we will send you a template :)
Thank you for answering my question! Could you plz give us some relationship advices too? It looks like you are always doing things together and respect each other. How do you handle arguments or conflict between you two during the travel?Or just in general?
that's a great question!! we can definitely answer this in more detail maybe in another Q&A. But in general, we try to get back to good/talk out any differences as soon as we can and give each other space, if needed! we have both learned that empathy and listening go a long way :)
We loved the video and are looking forward to checking out the SkillShare- thank you! During your adventures of traveling long term and making videos, have you come across a family that has done something similar with young children? Such as traveling for months with a toddler? Thanks!
Loved this! Thank you for the transparency, hope to do this one day. Leaving my current position at is the only thing holding me back. Just curious, what were your former jobs?
I've been with Google Fi since they were Project Fi - 6 years now and have LOVED the service. It's been awesome to get our $10/gigabtye service internationally and to automatically flip on to the service of what ever country we've just landed in. So I'm super distressed to hear that the cheap data is going bye-bye. Thanks for the heads up on Google Voice. Curious why you didn't talk about WhatsApp tho since everyone in the world uses it except Americans....
we feel the same way--it was convenient and the answer to international travel, but also keeping your number. turns out if you plan to travel internationally more often than being in the US, you may lose your plan...such a bummer :( and great point! we love WhatsApp and primarily use that to communicate with all of our friends/family when we travel, but forgot to mention it because we were focused on the data/keeping your number part of our phones
Hello from CA. Thanks for your amazing journeys. Fear doesn't live here but am wondering about the cost uploading videos in foreign countries. Do you go to an internet cafe in each country or do you buy data? Your videos have given me so many ideas, as i have already traveled(tropical countries) in the 70s when it was cheap & easy and lived in Hawaii, too. Never bought health /travel insurance(never drove a motorbike) and luckily only got infectious diseases: malaria and dengue fever. Love all the tech tips. 😎
hi Liz! thanks for the comment! great qs--we have been quite fortunate to find great wifi at most of the accommodations we've stayed at throughout our trip, actually. Maybe in 3-4 places we can think of, we've had to visit an Internet cafe or use our own cell phone data to upload videos.
Do you use onward tickets to go from country to country in SE Asia? I’m sure you don’t stay in one place for longer periods and countries in SE Asia require return tickets.
Thanks for sharing your travel tips with everyone!! I think I've finally talked my hubby into a year of world travel! 😊 I was just wondering if you could share with us how many free flights and how many free hotel nights you've used on your trip? I have accumulated some points but not sure how many more I will have by the time we leave. Did you pre-plan your destinations before you began your travel or do you decide as you go? I get a lot of ideas and inspiration from the travel vlogs that I watch. Thanks so much for sharing your journey and keeping everything real! I hope the remainder of your trip is fun and memorable in a good way!
Lori--this is so great to hear!! yes! this is such a timely and great question--we are working on this right now. the points have been such a game changer for us. we talk more about it more in detail in our skillshare course, but we are currently working on a video about this very topic too. we did have a spreadsheet/plan for our destinations before (in 2019, actually). but after the pandemic changed everything, we kinda had to scrap that and change things/decide as we go based on what countries were opening up. hopefully that will change for when you guys plan your travels, as many countries start to open up again :)
Aloha from Hawaii! I just subscribed and been following your adventures. May I ask what nationality is Lisa? When Lisa shared about her family I so relate as I am American born chinese
i just hope its all open my goal for next year is go for a year at that time i hope to have save up 15k and i will get a monthly pay out of 1600 each month so i get pretty fare my only problem is i have to be back home in one year or my pay out stops
@@LisaAndJosh i was hoping to start in japan around this time and then stay ther for 3 month then i wanner travel to thailand over hong kong and macau and spent some month on getting to thailand and spent 6 month traveling around.
we packed swimmers, but since we knew we'd be mostly going to warmer weather places, we didn't pack many clothes for cold or snow. but we just might soon!
@@LisaAndJosh For sure and both of you are too , i was the one totally exhausted going along on your Camino walk and both of you looking great as ever and i am not even doing the walking , both of you are awesome , thank you for allowing me to tagged along
@@LisaAndJosh can I ask do you think you’ve given up the ability to ever own your own home or have children? I know that’s really personal but I couldn’t see how you could get to do either of those things comfortably while travelling so much. It’s not just that the travel money is gone once the trip is over but it’s the loss of income for time you are travelling. (Fully aware having kids and owning a house isn’t on everyones list of important things).
Nice hotel room. 5 nights free? Really? Wow. So, is your course suitable for Aussies? As for being afraid - I lived overseas for a number of years, working on cruise ships, backpacking and living in the WI. I wasn't afraid of anything until I was due to come home. Weirdly, I never looked forward to coming home.
we saved $35K for our whole trip (in additional to our other life costs and savings). and no, luckily we were able to pay off our student loans a few years ago :)
I went to have a look at your course on skill share just to see what it covered but can't seem to find it by just browsing. Do you have to sign up before you can have a look at it?

hey love your guys content, im preping to go nomad in may. would you care if i asked you a question about google voice. im trying to figure out how to get messages and voicemails and call back to the USA. after you ported your number are you still able to call back to the USA for free while your online? I know google voice can make free calls within the USA but it cost to call other countries, however im trying to figure out how to call back to the USA while im also traveling, just curious if you can still call and text back to the USA for free?! please let me know when you have time im really trying to figure out a good solution before leaving hope i explained that well lol 🤣
Yes, the short answer is yes, if you have google voice, you are still able to call back to the US (with your US number, actually) when you're online. Would just double check your number can actually be ported to Google Voice (not all area codes can,) so would check that first. But if it can, yes!
I don’t know how we can do these, we want to have a year trip as well like you guys but from our recent travel to Italy for 15 days already cost us 16,000 usd😭😭 in average for every two weeks travel we had we are spending minimum of 10k USD 😭
we completely get this! sometimes we felt like we spent more on 2 week vacations than 2 weeks on our year long trip and I think a lot of it has to do with treating it like a long trip rather than a short vacation. also flights were cheaper to continue on to closer destinations rather than going back home like we had in previous trips. what do you find you're spending the most on on your vacations?
Haven't finished the video yet but the first ten minutes sound a lot like my journey toward Financial Independence (FI/RE). Have you guys heard/thought about doing that and retiring early?
@@LisaAndJosh I have retired and my wife is still enjoying being a teacher. We will be spending a month in Thailand in July. We found your video about Chiang Dao and will be spending two nights at Nest 2 there and your video on the Camino finally convinced my wife to do the Camino with me :) Anyway, been loving the channel and watching you two.
That’s our goal! the day to day certainly fluctuates. But we’ve been able to offset a lot of costs for flights and hotels with points we’ve saved up and we definitely eat rather inexpensively :) we list the costs of each of our days at the end of each of our travel episodes, in case that’s helpful
we spent $35K for the two of us to take a whole 1 year around the world trip :) (the camino was 2-3 weeks of that year and I think we made a video on how much that took us) ☺️
Sounds like FIRE movement except their goal is to reach a point where one has enough income to quit job market for good. Trip saving is easy and also very risky path to take, Im glad to see its working for you. FIRE path is better as in may be 5 or so years you can build a networth enough to live off passive income and you can always come back and continue where you left off. With saving for trip approach, when money are up the only place you can go back to is your parents basement In regards to cell phone plans, Google PI is probably best solution but to note, my T-mobile plan for $30 a month gives free roaming which I never had issues with neither in Europe or Asia. Yes, its slow but if you are in country for a week or just couple months it proven to work just fine with $0 extra charges Wonder what is your monthly travel budget?

I love your guys's vibe! I can tell you love to travel, this is my first video of yours I've seen. subscribed!
Welcome aboard! This is such a great place to start :) Is there anything you wish was in this video that didn't make it? We LOVE talking about this topic
@@LisaAndJosh hmm, maybe more info on hostels, couchsurfing, or how to find work overseas that pays :) other than that I loved the video!
love your videos.
We often start feeling homesick around 3 months in, so that could work out :)
Thanks so much for watching, and for taking care of those around you!
Travel Thursday, Travel Thursday, Lisa and Josh are back Part 3!
:) maybe part 4 coming if we get enough questions!
Thanks for sharing ...that was a lot of very helpful info ! Thxs again!
I know this video is old but it's still SUPER helpful for me! Thank you so much for putting in the time and effort!
Glad it was helpful!
Me and my travel friend met right before covid and became friends while learning a foreign language (español). Then we started traveling together and took a trip to Thailand to begin with and plan to travel the world together one day, before her parents marry her off because she is of a different caste and religion altogether in a country full of taboo.
Trip, trip ,trip, trip ,trip, I made it to the end. Thank you very, very much guys. Plus, you used three of my questions…
I’m ready.
Thank you so much for the questions!! :)
I love your guys videos. It motivates me to look forward to going on some adventures when life finally permits me to do so. Keep up the great content.
I think I will do a solo world trip next year thank to your guys!
Incredible!!! Where would you want to go first?
27:00 - This is my favorite part of the video where you talk about what to do with cell phones. Good note about porting my number to Google Voice so I can read my US text messages online. I didn't realize know about the Google Fi 90-day rule until this video. I had to look it up. So if the majority of your data usage is outside the US, they will disable it. However, it looks like they only disable the data but not the talk and text part of the plan.
ok i have to admit i only stumbled upon you lovely couple because i watch campervan videos, but now i will be going right back to watch all your Vids.Loving you!!!!!!-take care on your travels!!!
haha well, we have some other campervan stuff - both old and new, all ending terribly! lol thanks so much for watching and commenting!

COOL. I asked about this on a video I watched yesterday.
Hey thanks for answering my questions in your video today and good luck in the rest of your adventures through Australia and beyond.
Thank you very much for the questions!! :) Hope we answered them well enough
Yes ....I can only imagine how hard it will be for you guys to settle down to a "normal"life after a year on the road.
Started watching your channel because at the time I was going to go to Japan. Now, watching this video and Lisa you mention you’re from the bay! Where in the bay did you live?
yay, a Bay Area connection! I lived in San Francisco for years and then we both lived in San Mateo for a bit of time too :)
Love these Q&A videos. Thanks for the transparency into your travels and the required planning. Launching fall 2024!

@@LisaAndJosh I’ll be doing the Ingles 1st. If it goes well, I’d like to do the El Norte next.

What about for solo travelers? Tips to save, how to meet new people? How to fight the lonely days?
I want the trip but I just want to hang in Japan with you guys...
😕 Well stay safe friends and have fun!
haha - man, have gas prices gone that crazy? all of that sound awful. thanks for the update - hope you don't have to take out too many loans!
No time like the present :) what do you think is holding you back?
Made it to the end! Thank you both for taking time to put this together!
Thank you for watching!! :)
Head of IT and Genetic Counselor :)
Thank you for sharing!!
Love all the
tech tips. 😎
hi Liz! thanks for the comment! great qs--we have been quite fortunate to find great wifi at most of the accommodations we've stayed at throughout our trip, actually.

Hi Lisa and Josh
Are you guy still at Brisbane now? Should we have a good catch up seems we are so close now if u guy still in Brisbane 😁
Hello! Unfortunately it seems like we just missed you - we're in Sydney now! Sorry that we couldn't meet up!
Do you two have a mortgage or car payments? I'm assuming no on the car payment since you bought an older used car.
Do you have a retirement plan?
we do not have a mortgage or car payments currently. and yep, we do have retirement plans/savings that we've been working towards!
I was in that hotel last night. Hilarious!
:) did you like the breakfast?
Nice hotel room. 5 nights free? Really? Wow. So, is your course suitable for Aussies? As for being afraid - I lived overseas for a number of years, working on cruise ships, backpacking and living in the WI. I wasn't afraid of anything until I was due to come home. Weirdly, I never looked forward to coming home.
Can not wait to win that trip around the world 🌎 😆😆😆
:):):)
When you say you had to save $35k do you mean in addition to savings or in general?
And do you two have any student loan debt?
we saved $35K for our whole trip (in additional to our other life costs and savings). and no, luckily we were able to pay off our student loans a few years ago :)

hey love your guys content, im preping to go nomad in may. would you care if i asked you a question about google voice. im trying to figure out how to get messages and voicemails and call back to the USA.
after you ported your number are you still able to call back to the USA for free while your online? I know google voice can make free calls within the USA but it cost to call other countries, however im trying to figure out how to call back to the USA while im also traveling, just curious if you can still call and text back to the USA for free?! please let me know when you have time im really trying to figure out a good solution before leaving
hope i explained that well lol 🤣
Yikes!! I just spent 20 days in Poland and Hungary for $2100 total... stayed in nice hotels too and ate good food! 16k for 2 weeks is crazy

Because you don’t need to support your parents 2000 dollars each month like I do
Sounds like FIRE movement except their goal is to reach a point where one has enough income to quit job market for good. Trip saving is easy and also very risky path to take, Im glad to see its working for you. FIRE path is better as in may be 5 or so years you can build a networth enough to live off passive income and you can always come back and continue where you left off. With saving for trip approach, when money are up the only place you can go back to is your parents basement
In regards to cell phone plans, Google PI is probably best solution but to note, my T-mobile plan for $30 a month gives free roaming which I never had issues with neither in Europe or Asia. Yes, its slow but if you are in country for a week or just couple months it proven to work just fine with $0 extra charges
Wonder what is your monthly travel budget?
Thanks Lisa and Josh !!!
