- Midhurst is a delightful old market town laying on the crossroads of two ancient routes in West Sussex, the A272 and the A286. A town that developed as a result of the fortified manor house that first was built on St Anne's Hill and later moved down on the plain on the other side of the river. Join me as I explore the old market area.

I used to live here and it was such a beutiful place, i loved it
This just came up on my TH-cam feed what a trip down memory lane I lived just outside Midhurst in Bepton from 1983 to 1992 I was a herdsman on a 1000 acre farm owned by the then Lord Cowdrays son the farm was his 21st birthday present I believe he's the current Lord Cowdray
I once saw the late Queen whilst in Midhurst I was waiting to cross the road when her motorcade went through on her way to Chichester
I saw the Angel Hotel further down from the old part in the high street was gutted in a fire 2 weeks ago started in the building next door and spread to the roof of the hotel
No doubt its one of the best places I've ever lived
My mother used to work in Midhurst. She was on the domestic staff at Midhurst Grammar in the early '40s.

Richard, I’m binge watching all your videos. I’ve done most of your walks (I’m in Worthing) but Midhurst/Petworth is half way for my sister and I to meet. We did the high street but didn’t venture further back to this walk...am going back soon to check these lovely buildings out!

Hi Richard, Have just watched the 2 videos on Midhurst, and am trying to learn the different styles of architecture, the historical styles in different periods of time. Seems that Midhurst has all different styles. Wish the Cowdray House was Not in ruins, so people today, people who much appreciate the fabulous, gorgeous interiors of the castles, can still them.. Would have loved to see the inside at its heyday. Great tour, would much rather see the historical part of any town. Wish I was there, wished I lived in England, can't figure out where. A Great film, of highly interesting architecture, an the Cowdray House. So many terribly Kool places to visit. Great job. OOOOH, read some of those comments - very funny!!! My entertainment for the day. THANK YOU!!

My mother's great grandfather, Richard Butler Clarke, was the police superintendent at Midhurst in the 1870s. He ran the police station there and toured the nearby villiages in a horse driven carriage. One of his sons was Christened in the Parish Church in 1877. I wonder where the police station building was then and whether it is still there.
That is an interesting quest, if and when I get back to Midhurst, I will have to go looking for it.

Hi Richard I am a big fan of your videos and I really like it if you did a video exploring my hometown of Cuckfield, it’s very pretty and has a lot of history especially the old hospital where I was born in 1982

Another picturesque historic town Midhurst - and you again w/ so much knowlege on it. Love it! The stocks made me think of some of my Puritan ancestors here in America. They left England prob thinking they were getting away from such things only to get thrown in them multiple times for being too opinionated!

Have you been to East Grinstead High Street? It has the longest run of medieval buildings in Sussex, lovely St Swithuns Church & Sackville Collage, a Jacobean Almshouse built by the 2nd Earl of Dorset. EG is also the northern terminus for the Bluebell Railway.
I have been there but as yet haven't made a video - I will go there after the school holidays - maybe on Sunday morning!
Sunday mornings are definitely the best time to go.
A further comment, Richard. When the stocks and pillory were in use, would they really have had rotten tomatoes thrown at them? They did not reach England until the very end of the 16th Century.
