      I don't think she understands how brutal europe was in this time period, nor that there were always nobles trying to better their position through lands and titles. Events between the nobles wouldn't seem out of place back in the 11th and 12th centuries.

    • @SoSoMikaela
      @SoSoMikaela 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jeffburnham6611 So? Greed, oppression, and violence don't have to be out of place in order for someone to feel contempt for those who engage in it or to feel empathy for those who are victims of it. Whether it is the 8th century BCE, the 13th/14th century CE (when the Scottish War of Independence happened), present day, or a hundred years in the future if we're lucky enough to still be kicking around, there were/are/will still be human beings who manage to have some sense of humanity. Regardless of how normalized the brutality and trauma which surrounds them may be.
      We just never had many opportunities to hear such stories like we are able to nowadays. What got recorded as history and survived usually serves as propaganda in its purpose - both during the time period it was written in and when it is taught, studied, romanticized, and bastardized later on in order to reinforce contemporary narratives.

    This movie hits me hard. Even the soundtrack moves me to tears, which is a masterpiece by James Horner (rip). My ancestory left Scotland before the 1700s and immigrated to Fort Dearborn, Massachusetts. We fought in the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, and both World Wars. I don't know how to describe it, but this movie reminds me of my heritage and what we fought for then and even before. And, because of that, I'm touched and extremely thankful that my ancestors fought like warrior poets for freedom.

      Ellie is also my favourite, she as a real heart of gold and clearly cares about other people and pther things , not just herself , she's selfless. Ellie is definitely marriage material in my eyes and personally I would definitely date and Marry her. She's so kind , caring, genuine , cool, awsome and such a loving person, the other homies girls are aswell, but most of all Ellie especially with how much raw emotions she shows when reacting to movie videos here on youtube.
      Personally it might sound soft and cheesy but it's painful and very difficult// hard to see her cry (it's good to let it out though) and it makes me want to be there to hold her tight in my arms, ghve her hugs and cuddles While being there and comfort her with a shoulder to cry on. Also wipe and dry away everyone of her tears that sheds down her soft (face) cheeks , that might sound soft and cheesy, but i don't care if it does. Personally i would love to be there for her especially when she's going through her (raw) emotions.

      The funny thing is that it doesn't matter. It compresses time, changes characters, events etc...but somehow still retains a kernel of the overall truth. I personally love Apocalypto (also by Mel Gibson) for the same reason.

    • @doesnotexist305
      @doesnotexist305 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The real history is so much more interesting. But of course movies have runtime to consider. But I think if they had the Scots dress up in mail and plate like the English (as they did in real life) and not in kilts (which came centuries later) or Pictish face paint (which came centuries before), the Scots would have been represented way better.

    • @Josh86_925
      @Josh86_925 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@doesnotexist305 , Yeah I agree ... real history is so much better. Also the blue paint looks cool , but they didn't wear that lol. I mean they're pagen ancestors called the Picts did back in the 3rd century , and stopped like 300 years before this took place. Not only that , Scottish especially in those times were strict catholics , so I highly doubt they would ride into battle like their pagen ancestors. They even got some of the dates wrong 😆. But all said still good movie. Most of Mel Gibson's movie are like that. Like Apocalypto .. good movie , but hella inaccurate. For 1 in that movie they were wayyyy more Aztec than Mayan.

For 1 they're depicted as Aztec wayyyyyy more than Mayan. But like I said I'm not hating , I got both films on 4k Ultra..Love both movies. Braveheart is probably in my top 10 favorite movie ever

      Large parts of it were also filmed in Ireland and of course the Irish army obliged in the battle scenes, Ireland was very generous with tax breaks for filming, I also like the end scene where Wallace screams freedom as he dies at the same time as Edward II is on his death bed, Edward actually died in 1327 some 21 years after Wallace, having taken an interest in history whilst I like movies I now find it difficult to watch some films because of all the inaccuracies, as mentioned here real history is in reality far more engaging than Hollywood rewrites.

      England's queen died without children around 1600, and her uncontested heir was the King of Scotland. With this, the two countries' monarchies became a single line of succession. After some political maneuvering, the countries merged about 100 years later. So they have 3 or 4 centuries of being a single nation. That's a lot of history to break with.

    "This is the worst idea ever!" Thank goodness that First Night has not occurred to anyone in Congress, yet. Best. Leo.

      There is no historical record of the practice of "prima nocta" ever being carried out as depicted in this film. The church was the most powerful force in Europe at the time, and there's no way they would have allowed it.
      What we DO have is historical records that there was a playful wedding tradition whereby the local lord would attend the wedding, and declare "prima nocta". The groom was then expected to valiantly 'defend' his bride. The lord would be warded off with a single coin... usually a penny or some low value coin.

      @@Mr.Ekshin Thanks, Sven, for the background. It's a shame that many (myself included) might take these events as historically accurate. Misinformation has a life of its own. Best. Leo.
