Wow, as an American who enjoys snooker, these replies have shown me that the snooker community online is rude and unwelcoming. I just returned home from Sheffield where I enjoyed watching the World Championship. How many of you have invested that kind of money and dedication to the sport?
I think some kind of standard dress code should be maintained but maybe a more relaxed one. If people were just in casual clothes it would take away from the professional setting a bit as a viewer
Yes and I think darts would be better if they made the board bigger and the ockie closer. Changing the entire design of the sport takes away the things that the game has left behind. If people now start playing in casual wear then those who have retired will say "I'd have won so much more if it weren't for the uniform", like a footballer saying I would have scored so much more if I could play in trainers!!
I feel a polo shirt is good enough. Not as in your face as they have in the Darts, but I really wouldn't care if they ditched the waistcoat and bow ties at all and I've loved snooker for about 30 years now
@@wobla9699Those changes would change the sport of darts completely. That's not a fair comparison. Also who cares what old retired players would say, snooker needs modernising and things like a change of outfit is one way to do this. Other tournaments play without the suits and it's fine
the dress code keeps snooker away from a pub sport, Trump wants people to ware a polo shirt or tee shirt with his name on it, a 20 cent t shirt made in the orient with another 1 cent per letter and pay 7o pound
I'm a traditionalist, I believe football should go back to numbering the team 1-11, cricketers should play in whites. With snooker, I'd be happy as long as a select number of events keep the waistcoats.
I personally don’t give a rat’s ass what the players wear. I care about how they play. The whole fake aristocracy vibe can honestly be quite ridiculous at times
Honestly I agree with Judd on this and I think this should apply to pool too because the main pool events you always see a pool jersey with dress pants and black shoes and a black belt like a proper dress code but with the Derby City classic you can wear anything. I think the player should play feeling more comfortable. They shouldn't play feeling uncomfortable
I've always thought comfortable clothing provides for a bit more relaxed atmosphere. This isn't the 60's any longer and the " gentlemen" that supported the game are long gone now. The venues could even sell nice shirts with the fans personal favorite spelled out. It might be interesting to see the reaction of the public.
Meh, Judd once blamed the crowd for his standard dropping because they "weren't 100% on his side". It's confidence, nothing to do with bowties and suits.
I think the problem really comes down to poor tailoring and the failed modern standards of garment fit. The modern suit (including waistcoat) looks bad, doesn't fit properly and seriously limits mobility. Tight pants and a sagging waistline is a recipe for discomfort. Pre-1960s, men wore pants on their actual waist and the waistcoats were cut much shorter (ending at the waist). If you ever have the opportunity to try on period pieces that fit well, you'll be shocked by how free and comfortable you feel.
I like it. It provides a contrast between high level tournaments and exhibition/lower level things. It also looks more professional. I think triple crown events should have it but anything everything else I’m alright with them changing if that’s the general consensus of players
I find it particularly interesting that people who really don’t like it when professionals don’t play with waistcoats on are the same people who would laugh at you if you was wearing a waistcoat at your local snooker club. 🤷♂️
I think it should stay as the way it is, but they should make it even smarter, like it used to be. White shirt not black, proper bow tie, (unlike what Judd wears), proper smart shoes. I saw Ronnie playing a game in trainers, looked terrible.
@@nufcjoker9057 I think there needs to be a minimum standard, but I've felt for a long time that requiring players to wear full formal attire is a bit much.

It’s completely away from the sport but I do agree with what he’s saying. If players have their own almost “branded” shirt with the name, sponsor, colour etc it can be used in the same way football or darts fans can buy the kit of their favourite team/players. The merchandising sales would also create more revenue for whichever company would produce and provide it
Snooker needs it's own fit, especially for prestigious events. We have all seen the amount of times players have been disturbed by bow ties and waist coats and sponsor tags etc etc. Just design something similar that is designed and fit for purpose
If they're going to keep the dress code they should commit properly and not have the sponsors on the clothes. A waistcoat looks stylish; a waistcoast with a corporate logo on it looks ridiculous.
I've now of the opinion that to truly compete in the market of sport it needs to change. It's a business - if you want to make a living from it - it needs to draw audience and sponsors. If the clothing does affect play then that's just ridiculous. Tennis players would be expected to wear clothing that affected the serve would they?

its stands to reason, although the only time he would play with the waistcoat on is also under the pressure of an event, so that might have something to do with it. however any bodily restriction isn't going to help your snooker
