Along the way, Gareth breaks down the techniques and thought processes of professional pool players in how they approach the potting patterns to clear the table. The standard of pool is high in this one from both players, Stephen even finds a newfound respect for the sport! Let us know in the comments if you've enjoyed this one.

That shot Gareth showed Stephen to develop the 8 ball early in the game was such a clever shot. And Stephen played it perfectly, nice shot 🙂

    • @carlhartwell7978
      @carlhartwell7978 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +16

Yep, it was a perfect example of the intricate types of shots great pool players need to have in their arsenal. Not saying pool is in any way as complex as chess, but it's certainly more complicated than snooker on a shot by shot basis. More risk per shot. More chance the frame is over in a few seconds!

    • @Zombies8MyPizza

@@carlhartwell7978 Yeah, I'm really not a fan or believer of the phrase "snooker is akin to chess, pool is akin to draughts". As an enjoyer of both snooker and pool, it becomes obvious that when it comes to offensive tactics, 8 ball pool is a much more complex game than snooker. A skilled snooker player comes to the table almost immediately knowing the shot to play, whereas with 8 ball the entire run is considered from start to finish before a single shot is played. You think 3 shots ahead in snooker, you think the whole rack ahead in 8 ball. Snooker is of course considered a harder game simply because it's a lot more mechanically demanding, which of course is an extremely tough thing that requires a lot of work to get right!

    • @carlhartwell7978

@@Zombies8MyPizza Anyone who says that has never watched/played properly either Snooker, Pool, Draughts or Chess.
Their are many variables to consider... but I don't want to type a dissertation!
To me Chess is _beyond even human comprehension,_ more complicated than Draughts.
Pool is simply merely more complicated than Snooker. But perhaps also less skillful. That's a matter of debate.
Personally, and I'm fully willing to debate, I think both Snooker and Pool are FAR FAR more similar than 'those other two. HOWEVER, I side with Snooker by the merest margin. because of its absolute need for combined natural talent, skill, concentration and tactics.

Gareth Potts came to Stephen Hendry’s Snooker Club in Preston when I was about 13 years old (around 2011) and I won the Saturday kids tournament to play him in one of the 8 exhibition matches he was playing!
I always used to pride myself on my bottle, but when my name got called out to play him I started seeing double! Top guy though I’ve still got the picture my Dad took shaking Gareth’s hand before breaking off - good times! Signed cue and towel still intact too ha!

Tell me about it! I never had a problem with potting on a pool table. But was CONSTANTLY berated by my team mates because of the time it took me to 'think'.🤣👍
*note, they never said a word during a match, just watched in uncomfortable silence, I'd get the banter during practice sessions though, and no mistake!
I mean, who want's to stand/sit their, watching a guy holding a cue with a puzzled look on his face doing laps around a pool table for 3+ minutes!🤣
All the while in my head (despite the disapproving looks) and as well as the constant calculations, I'm thinking, _There is no time limit, but you look like a moron!'_ LMAO.

@carlhartwell7978 I can agree with you there, when I played for the local pub team way back when, if everyone was quiet then I would coast both of my games, it was the whispering in my ear that used to put me off tho as it made me second guess everything, I was also a lot younger too, but if I was faced with the same scenario now I would plainly just ignore it 😂

Been subbed for a while now and content is fantastic .fot me this was an exceptional video I personally would love to see actuall "matches" whether its 9ball , English 8ball as we saw with various pro players . Maybe best of 11-15 dotted in with your regular videos with the snooker players 😊❤ just my ten pence thrown in

Gareth Potts is awesome, and a really nice chap. Played a county pool game in his club a few years back, and got to watch him play - what a player - but also really friendly and chatted to everyone. Great video. I reckon Stephen may enter ultimate pool!
