A visit to the active volcano of White Island

This video takes viewers on a visit to White Island. This is an active volcanic island off the coast of Whakatane in the Bay of Plenty in New Zealand. On the boat out to the Island you'll see dolphins riding the bow waves. On the Island you will see fumaroles emitting a variety of dangerous gasses but don't worry we had respirators. The landscape is hostile and forbidding which of course makes it more exciting but we were pleased when we returned to Whakatane.
Four years after our visit, on 9th December 2019, the Island erupted killing 22 people and inflicting serious burns to 25 others. It has been closed to the public ever since.
