Too early to judge, his wife probably have given him more than a material thing such as this beautiful bike.
Who knows, she might've given him wonderful kids and now with a beautiful grandkids too.
I'd say it's worth the sacrifice for the woman he loved and have given him everything.

So, the Triumph expert who knows the top Triumph collectors in the world, appraises it for 20-25k noting that a top collector would pay 30k. So...Rick buys it from the poor chump for 15k, sells it to the expert for 25k (pocketing 10k) and then the expert makes a little 5k on the side by selling to a top collector for 30k. I mean...it's all right there in front of you

Probably, the expert put it in his store on consignment, instead of buying it. Or just called a collector and Rick sold it directly to him, paying a commission to the expert. Or the expert took it to auction for Rick. Different ways of doing the same thing. Your figures sound accurate, although it would take a while to find someone to pay too dollar. Probably ended up with a final price of around $25,000.

Why, exactly, would he be selling for reliably at LEAST 10k less than what he could get by spending a few minutes advertising it? illogical to the point of definitely being fiction

Every once in a while I've seen older (60s-70s) Triumphs going for as little as $4000 to $5000. Needless to say, they usually need tons of work and a bunch of cash, but they are out there. The one in this Pawn Stars episode is definitely special and worth a whole lot. Don't know if it's worth that much but I know the value of older bikes is going up. My old '55 Harley and my old '49 Harley are worth quite a bit now. I have seen basically the same bikes go for $28,000.00 and up (That's in original style, not chopped.). Anyway, always loved motor cycles, still love 'em at 70, and always will. I especially appreciate the classics.
