  • This is the final video in a four part series on how to flat tow a 6th gen Ford Bronco. In this video I provide a guide for installing the Blue Ox BRK2019 Patriot 3 braking system. The previous videos go over the adapter plate install, diode kit install for the rear lights, as well as a broad overview of what goes into flat towing a car.
If you found this video helpful or valuable, consider sending me a tip, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Disclaimer:
I'm not an expert on any of this, this is just how I personally installed my stuff, so I can't guarantee anything, and if you choose to do your own work in making your Ford Bronco flat towable, you do so at your own risk.

I must say you did a great job. So good I wished you lived in Vegas and set up my Bronco. Thank you

The part im left mystified with is how steering works. All these years ive seen vehicles flat towed assuming linkage between the tow bars and the steering rack.

Ah, no - so at 08:19 you can kind of see the steering in operation. There is no connection to the steering rack. The towed vehicle's steering is only being directed in the direction it is being pulled. The towed vehicle's steering wheel is loose with no lock out active. Works great when pulled, but you basically can't take your RV in reverse - it'll inevitably push the towed vehicle's steering to the limit and drag the wheels.

Thanks for the video. Any idea if we could get the Blue Ox power from one of the up-fitter switches that come prewired in some Broncos?

Ah I considered that during my build actually, and to my knowledge, no. Those switches are not active while the Bronco accessory power is off. And even if you didn't turn the Bronco accessory power off while towing, the switches get disabled after some time - 45 minutes I believe (but who knows if they changed anything about that behavior with an over-the-air update). I think they are run to some relays governed by the computer, which turns everything off unless the engine is running. Unfortunate really, because that would be really slick and give me an excuse to actually use up a switch lol. I'll add that it's probably possible to re-wire a switch to be directly wired to the battery. I also wonder if the computer could be reprogrammed, maybe there's a flag that can be disabled to ignore whether the engine is running or not.
