I so love the part when the Ethiopians come into the Great Hall. True, the Egyptians were not historically accurate in the film, it was great to see how Beautiful true Africans looked even for a 1956 film. It was so important to see that as a kid.
This is why God YHWH likened His people Israel's color to that of the Ethiopians..So much truth has been deliberately erased, however Ethiopians are very dark skinned..
It's quite amusing to observe the way in which the so-called fake Egyptians are dressed up, resembling more Romans or Greeks, while the Ethiopians seem to capture the essence of ancient Kemet depicted on the wall art. Now that I've delved into the actual history, it's evident that the Ethiopians walk with a regal bearing, symbolized by the left foot firmly stepping on their enemies, highlighting a facet of history often overlooked by Eurocentric perspectives. Initially, "The Ten Commandments" was hailed as a remarkable movie, but my perspective underwent a significant shift when I uncovered the extent of fabrication and misrepresentation within it. I firmly believe that a more faithful portrayal could be achieved by incorporating the historical context of Greek and Roman intrusions into Egypt,. While the indigenous African heritage, including the names and contributions of the ancient Kemet people who were the true architects of the pyramids and temples history remain separate. White or olive-skinned individuals would not have been able to find it possible under the scorching 90-120-degree Egypt sun without their shirts during that time, as implied by the film. Furthermore, the attire depicted in "The Ten Commandments" closely resembles Greek clothing, which is a far cry from the historical clothing worn by the ancient Egyptians, or Kemet people, who did not sport helmets as portrayed in the movie. A commendable aspect of the film, though, is the portrayal of the Nubians and Ethiopians, whose clothing aligns more closely with the historical records found on the walls of ancient Egypt, featuring garments adorned with cheetah or leopard pattern
I can watch this movie The Ten Commandments over and over, I've looked at it so many times already and each time it never gets old to me or I even get tired of looking at it! This is an awesome movie of the depiction of Moses in the bible! nyc ...
Woody Stroud as the King of Ethiopia. He was the man back in the day. A real pioneer of Black actors in Hollywood. I salute you all the roles you took to pave the way.
Agreed, I always loved Woody Strode as an actor. I believe he appears later in the film as one of Bithias litter bearers. Also Anne Baxter was right to be jealous, the Princess of Ethiopia was indeed beautiful.
Well Ethiopia, these two Balck people represented as It's King and queen, was at one time in war with Egypt and lost. In consequence, Ethiopia had to pay tribute every year to Egypt in acknowledgement of who was "Boss!". Egypt at that time imposed that on all countries they "kicked they're Butts on".

His ego got the better of him in this film. Also, Moses handled Ethopia far more wisely. Instead of conquering Ethopia and making a potential enemy, he brings them to Egypt as friends, building a strong alliance.
I was always drawn to the actress who played the Ethiopian princess. She’s barely on screen, but her charisma! Her presence! I would’ve loved it if she played Zipporah, since the Bible says she was “dark”, not necessarily indicating she was black, but still. That’s something I appreciated in the animated Prince of Egypt.
@@ddthewolf I could only find an uncredited role in Sinuhe she played. Some mention that she got married and changed her second name, likely she quit acting - sadly. A dark skinned woman in the 50s, married likely would have had a hard time finding any roles.
Moses apparently had a 2nd wife. Tzipporah the daughter of Jethro was a Midianite. She was not a Kushite woman. The wife about whom Miriam gossiped in the Book of Numbers chapter 12 was a Kushite woman (an Ethiopian woman) and was not a daughter of Jethro. For gossiping about her, Miriam became leprous.
The real lady portrayed wouldn't look anything like the actress portrayed. We know how horn Africans especially Ethiopians look and the lady doesn't look Ethiopian. She looks more west African. Beautiful nonetheless
If looks could kill, Nefateri would've turned that woman to ashes. And when Rameses says: "I too share her joy in your return," sounded so phony, I'm surprised Rameses didn't choke on those words.

The best story ever told in the old testament about Pharos & Moses was in Egypt. God chose a Royal African country to tell the greatest story. Story is about two countries, two brothers, African Royalty and slavery, maintaining power at any cost. God shows how mighty and powerful he is through the journey. At the end, both men got separated and lead their own people.
Back then, weightlifting wasn't anywhere near as common as it is now. The studio must have cleaned out every gym in California to get all the extras. And of course Heston and Brynner had to have been put on a program.

Fantastic scene, like every other scene in this movie. I doubt the guests would be allowed in so close to the Pharoah. Anne Baxter's jealousy is hilarious. Also hilarious that Nefertiri and Seti can supposedly talk to each other about Ramses and Moses with them standing just a couple feet away.
The drama of dialogue in movies is something modern directors and writers have sadly forgotten. The little skirmishes between moses and his brother and nefertiti allying with moses while wise sethi sees everything that is going on between those three is more interesting than actual combat and special effects. New horizons the costner movie is like that.

@ChiefX07 I believe this would be a fun video of fact vs fiction. I think they combined the kingdoms of Ethiopia and Nubia under Ethiopia in this movie. But in 1956 they indeed recognized beauty amongst black people. Unfortunately I could not find more on the actress that played the Ethiopian Princess but the King was indeed an athlete of Olympic status and married to one of the Hawaiian princesses in real life.
That would make him Woody Stroud. He went to USC and played in the same backfield as OJ Simpson. He played a lot of roles. Loved him as Pompey in "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" An absolute classic.
One thing confuses me; was Nefertiti Pharoah’s daughter or his ward? Marrying Ramses if she was his daughter, meant that she married her own brother. If she wasn’t, she still ended up with a crap husband.
First of all she was Nefertiri, not Nefertiti. And Pharaoh Sethi I wasn't her father. She was taken to the court as she was highborn from an old previous royal house. Sort of a Diplomatic marriage. But some sources say that Rameses II and Nefertiri had an actual love.
