    That's what i'd call a cinematic freestyle kwad. The extra weight is really nice when you are chasing something. as the quad feels more locked in the line. I regularly fly my custom 800+ grams XL5 to get those sick chasing shots of rc planes and I'm very happy with it. It's something you can't do with a 3inch or cinewhoop and it is harder to do (at least smoothly) on a light kwad. My 2 cents.

    I have a 5” AtlasV2 Brute freestyle Build that weighs 989 grams! That is with the Hero10 included and with a Tattu 1550mAh 6s 120c pack. With a Tattu 1400 it weighs 946grams. With that being said I did this build with the intention to stop breaking carbon. I broke an apex bottom main plate every week it seemed like. So I got tiered of that. People are constantly telling me that there is a point to where it is to heavy then it compromises the durability. But not in this case. I have yet to still break the V2 Brute. It has 6mm arms 4mm bottom plate and bottom main plate. And a 4mm top plate. So yea that’s why I built it. And I have purposely smashed it trying to break it and it hasn’t yet. There are certain times when added weight helps me at a certain areas just depends, they can fly nice and very smooth. And what I do to not be able to feel the weight is I put massive motors on it F80Pro 1900kv motors or the 2200kv version on 6s of course. It feels just like a lighter quad at the throttle, especially if you tune it with Chris’s Rosser a tune. It’s awesome. The GRL build I have weighs 740 grams with the Hero10 and I love that thing but I still take my Atlas with me on flights cause it handles bandos like a boss believe it or not, you can slug it everywhere idk I guess you just have to build it right untimely is what it comes to at the end of the day.

    I have this quad and the weight really does one thing: add momentum. That means more force to redirect it so it's great in wind e.g. cinematic flying. It's also great for momentum based freestyle e.g. power loops, inverted lookbacks and split S. What it's worse at is freestyle that requires lots of redirection e.g. bando flying and flicky freestyle. Obviously terrible for racing lmao. So who is this quad for? I think it's for cinematic flyers as well as mid level freestyle as the powerful motors will allow you to do all the moves but if you want to reach the highest skill freestyle this may be too much weight to keep up. P.S. it also makes batteries cry. I get 3 min flight times.

    I've got just analog nazgul5 with previous version of the frame and was flying it just a few times without insta360 one r on board. Yes, the weight really feels... but I see no reason to fly drone without action camera. And your words in the end were not clear to me. You say that 5 inch for freestyle with action cam is to small, but if you gonna build 6 inch drone it would be for cruising but not for freestyle. What's the sweetest spot than?) Also as I know for xl5 frames iflight offer not 5 inch, but 5.1 inch nazgul5 props. And all the rotor riots fly 5 inch with a GoPro on board and having weight 800-900 g and it doesn't stop them to make cool freestyle videos)

      @@Jacobghel I've had problems with the ESC desync issue (Waiting on my RMA ESC currently) so I didn't do a full flight, but I flew for 6min 30sec which took it down to storage voltage so I expect around 10 minutes - Will have have to test it properly when I get it re-built. It's 6S to be clear. I might try with a 1800mAh battery as well, but at this size it doesn't really matter as much.
      I'm using "The Practice Rig" frame by Project399 so it's practically indestructible, it's already survived a large drop thanks to the ESC issues without damage. As long as it flies well and I don't have to change battery every couple of minutes, I'm happy!

    My AUW is similar with 1500 mah 4S and Hero 8, running 2207s. To be fair, S3 props are too low pitch for that kind of weight. I've run S3, S4, JohnnyFPV 3.8, Gemfan 51433/51466, HQ 5043/5048/5050, and cyclone 5045C. I think the 4.3-4.8 range of pitch is ideal, and I think the 51433 specifically was the best fit for me. I get about 3-3.5 min of acro flying.

  • @wyvern4588

    Heavy quads are momentum quads, slow and floaty.
    I don't like feather weight quads after experimenting with them, they are good for zippy, close proximity stuff, like racing with gates, but they take a ton of pitch to fly forward fast and they just feel airy and don't feel locked in at high speeds- very much like an over powered 3" quad.
    500Gr is a nice AUW with a 6S system to me.
    That rig would be perfect for either an 2306/7 Analog system and go-pro OR Digital system just using the DVR.

    It's really difficult trying to convey in video just how a quad flies when it's too heavy or underpowered, especially since if you're a competent flyer you automatically compensate for the craft's deficiencies and make the footage look 'not terrible'.
    Happened last week to me, my FUS Spartan V3's came with 3800KV motors instead of the promised 5400KV motors, on 3S it felt well underpowered but the footage I got looks ok because I quickly learnt how it flies and compensated automatically.

      that's a bad idea to have unpredictable flying circular saw as a first drone. My first drone was geprc cine pro. It's small and have propguards and it's very light, there is no such a height that could destroy arms on it. But xl5 frame is heavy and I've already broken one arm after a crash from about 15 meters. I have CNC mill at work and cut out an arm from 5mm textolite. And it works pretty well)) it's little bit more flexible than carbon, but it works. But than all the bearings finished on each motor suddenly and had lot of mto's on footage. I made a research on TH-cam and find out that bearings on xing-e is a piece of shit, that dies after 20-30 packs, and ordered the cheapest Velox 2207.... They say that it's much better

    I’ve got a question probably not totally related to this video. I hear you speak of tuning or dialing in “rates” on many videos. I’ve not taken the plunge into FPV yet but do have several of the so called “camera drones.” I’m curious if by “rates” do you mean “how fast” the quad spins on any given axis? There are choices for changing those on a couple of my drones, although probably not to the extent you do with these FPV drones in BetaFlight.

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Heavy props on a heavy quad means battery sag and short flight time. Can't get something for nothing.

    • @WilderFPV
      @WilderFPV 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoshuaBardwell that’s very true. My main quad, until my glide frame comes in the mail, is right at 800g. It has very little “pop” with s3, but with s5, a small throttle blip throws it to the top of a 5 story building. Also, how are you liking that zeez 2020 stack? Throwing one of those in said glide frame.
