I have to say how overall invaluable it is to have somebody faster than you who is patient actually explain small, achievable things you can do that enable you to go faster
A training tool that helped me a ton was scaling my power down in betaflight to 60-70%. These quads have so much power you end up spending more time trying to manage your throttle instead of flying smooth and conserving momentum. It also give you more throttle resolution and added flight time to get more laps in.
The parts where Evan just stops before the gate or reverses and goes around to do it again as he's explaining is what really demonstrated just how much control he has over the quad. It's super impressive.
You should do a vid like this for freestyle. I like the “JB learns something today” vids haha. Have a good freestyle pilot talk you through a trick or something you lack at
Have you seen joshuas beginner tricks to learn? Check it out. If you can learn his trick list then you shouldn't have problems doing/learning new tricks. It's mostly just stick time and practice
@@Moonsauc3 yeah I have. I don’t really need to learn anything per-say. I just like watching that kind of video tbh. Like the video he did testing out stinger swarm frame where they went trick for trick and discussed- loved that style vid

Been racing for about 2 years. I’ve been improving and but also feel I’m plateauing but the ‘turning gates into flags’ concept is so simple yet so practicable. Thanks heaps for this single awesome tip.
it's amazing how you did exactly what evan described. i can get racing tips all day long, but not have the ability to execute them. your flying is top notch, mr. bardwell
I found the idea about not flying through gates, but flying around poles super interesting. I recalled my first time ever trying to race and all I could think about was getting through the gate. I never really thought anything of it until Evan explained it that way. I notice now, when I'm flying, I never think about the gate anymore. I don't even really see the gate, just the pole that I know I need to get around. super interesting.
Such useful information. I just published my interview with heads up a few days ago. I didn’t think about extracting racing tips from him. If bardwell beats me in the qualifier this year then it worked for sure.
Awesome tips Evan and JB!!!! Love it when the pros share these tips. Only a few have done it like Nytfury and Vanover and a couple more. 👍👍 two thumbs up and a new vid in my Fpv training playlist. Now to just get back to flying and figure out a way to not work on Sunday’s so I can get back racing.
Hi great tutorial/explanation 👍 JB you should’ve let Evan try your goggles. The goggles comparison would’ve been a important factor in racing. You have to see how you fly. Take care 🤓😉😘
Thanks Joshua and Evan. So many useful tips packed into this video, all clearly explained and well reasoned. A simple thing like approaching gates at the angle you want on exit is so obvious...once someone's pointed it out 😉
Since watching you 3 years ago you've improved everywhere so much that's so awesome. Just wish I could improve half as fast as you. I'm almost scared to fly mine just cuz I don't wanna crash it. Can't wait to see you when u get to DRL! I think you could do it
This was amazing to watch! Damn Evan is so good that just sitting next to him can help you get better at racing lol JB is improving more and more every vid!!!!👍
At 2:52 he mentions that the track's name is global qualifier, is there any chance that you know the full name of the track? I wanna to try and find it in velocidrone.
Seriously enjoyed this content. I mean, I love 90% of content you make and I miss about 10% so I wouldn't say I'm unbiased. I really enjoyed this though, was a great listen at work.
@@kevinjulievan haha I just realized who you are... I'm watching the 2020 multigp recap video and you popped up My name is Evan too. Maybe I'll run into you and headsup one day if I stick to this :)
I’ve been in a huge crossroad on what to do now in fpv. I like to freestyle but I have been more and more wanting to build up a race rig and see what happens with that after some race training. However I just went digital and don’t have my analog stuff anymore….( I know stupid to get rid of it but unfortunately financially it wasn’t really possible at the moment. Don’t know if I should still build a race rig on DJI/ just get a analog adapter/ or save up and get a analog goggle set
You can start with an analog adapter for the DJI goggles. The most important thing to do for your first race, is to just go, don't worry too much about showing up with the "right" gear. Get out to a race, talk to the people there, check out what gear other people in the area are running. Half the fun of racing is hanging out with a group of people interested in the same hobby as you. You'll also have a much better idea after your first race of what direction you want to go, both with gear, and FPV in general.
headsup troll mode: long winded detailed explanation :sneaky fast guy training engaged: pushes cam angle to 60* "oh wow! you are already a second faster on your sight lap!"
Yeah I was pretty sure the track was the same, I just wanted to see the line layout with the gate markers (or whatever they're called) in Velocidrone. I have no idea how to do that lol
I charge all my batteries. Crash my drone on first battery, then spend rest of the day discharging batteries.
LMAO gotta get a spare quad Lol
LOOOOOOL cant stop laughing
True story bro
So true...
Lollll 😂

Interesting to see what's going through Evan's head. Good format for a video, would watch more like this.
What a beautiful background. Looks like a poster, almost. Great video too!
Awesome Vid , Thankyou Evan Turner for showing JB and us as well . I do hope you and Evan do more of these video's .
What a great video! Evan is an *excellent* teacher too, coming from someone who teaches for a living.
I really appreciate the "betaflight" bleep snuck in there. 🤣🤣🤣

Some excellent tips from Evan. 🎩👌
Josh - "I am kind of, plateauing" Evan - "Yep" lmao I know he didn't mean it in a bad way but, that was funny.
thanks Evan,teach something today!
Ok so the break down of what he said is that the guy is overwhelming himself by focusing on too many things at one time. Very smart
oooooo that is scary fast .. at 76 year old I can,t even think that fast .. racing is a young minds game .

Cheat codes to FPV racing!! Excellent video thank you both
This works really good, curse at yourself when you make mistakes like flying wide.
"I fly wider than my mother drives on a straight road" etc.
And of course, practice more tracks. After like 30-45 minutes you usually stop learning from repetition.
Its weird watching someone you take advice from take advice from someone else. Very humbling
What a awesome guest...
This is solid gold, Joshua.
Great video - thanks to both of you!
I feel like you're all grown up all the sudden haha! Excellent analysis and break down Evan!... JB def learned something today.
LOL ... 4:14 -- of course. FTW as always!!
Great stuff here! And a new outro!
this made me want to race again after taking a season off
JB is starting to get fast!
At 2:52 he mentions that the track's name is global qualifier, is there any chance that you know the full name of the track? I wanna to try and find it in velocidrone.
The original track is the multigp 2021 global qualifier
