For me, if some man says to me in person that he isn't interested or i feel he isn't interested in me, i respect that and try my very hardest to move on even if i may have the biggest crush on him. He owes me nothing- not even a smile, friendship..nothing. Reasons don't matter and the explanations aren't necessary. I personally only ask that he deals with it in a mature and at least pay minimal respect. (i.e. NOT treating me horribly, saying horrible things about me or calling me names..etc. )
Actually- thats for all my relationship whither it be a friendship, romance or family relationship. Just because you feel strongly about someone or something, doesn't mean the other person has the same passion, right? Its perfectly ok to like what you like, but its not ok to force that on someone else.

i know its a lot easier said than done. There are so many factors that may make the situation a lot more complicated than ''just move on''... You are absolutely right George- sometimes it indeed is a ''romance or nothing'' kind of situation and you lose good friends like that. Sometimes you may not want to keep being friends with someone that chose not to be romantically involved with you, and thats perfectly understandable. I WISH there was a formula to solve situation like this, but unfortunately there isn't.
I think the best thing for us to do in a situation like that is to not dwelling on this particular situation and acting appropriately. Realizing that you can't change certain things no matter no much you scream and yell at it will be important. Unfortunately you can't control who other people become interested in, right? We all gotta respect that. Trying to make this crush work itself into a romance isn't gonna help in this kind of situation and i think you would only be hurting yourself more by doing so. Please do yourself (and your crush too) a favour by not hurting yourself this way.
i think re-focusing your energy on what is really important, other than this crush, is highly important at that point. I know we all have life outside of crush and dating world..i know we do! Is it better to have a perfect crush and romance or have other aspects of life together like the finances, work, school..etc? When you look at it in a bigger picture, romance is such a small part of our lives...it really is, isn't it? I would say friendship and functional family relationship is more important than romance, because family and friends stay with you forever. Romance..can come an go if you see what i mean...
Honestly-don't worry too much about it and have faith that life always works itself out for good. It didn't work out for a reason at this time, otherwise it would have worked out! Im sure one day, you will be thankful about this crush not accepting you romantically. As long as you learned something from this crush/ small relationship, l think you did well. I used to work with girls like this. One of them kept leaving notes on my desk saying she wanted to cuddle with me. I saved all her notes and gave them to HR and got her shitcanned.
