    I had this lens and I think it's a very good value. Try stopping it down to f11 when fully zoomed in to 210mm. It will improve the sharpness.

    Great vid as always, Kyle. I'd been looking at this lens recently and it's amazing how many popular reviewers don't show a comparison of the same shot at 55mm vs 210mm, i.e. showing how much the lens actually zooms in.

    I got one for $100. Open box. Never used. Crazy. I actually love it. I think it's WAY underrated. I am using it a lot on a documentary I'm currently working on, and it's working so well for me. On the a6400, even when I crank up the ISO, it produces great shots in low light. But for daytime stuff, yeah... it's awesome. I feel like it has great character. Doesn't feel like a compromise at all when I use it. Thanks for the awesome review.

    It's a damn good lens. Sharp as heck and fast focusing for the price. Only downsides is the slow aperture and tendency to form permanent dust spots on the inside. I have it as well and if you have a tracker it's a very good lens for entry level widefield astrophotography. I'm actually impressed I can autofocus even in astropotography moreover on Pleiades that isn't that bright(compared to city sky atleast). I'd recommend getting this lens if you can be delicate and gentle with this lens.

    This was the first lens I purchased for my A6000 back in June this year. I have to say I was underwhelmed. It isn't a very sharp lens, and obviously the further out you zoom, the more the quality suffers (which I know is true for all zoom lens). However, for a zoom lens, it is cheap. It has a far reach and you can have a lot of fun with it. I have managed to get some pretty acceptable shots of birds in flight and I managed to get a pretty decent shot of the moon, although it needed a lot of editing in post production e.g. crop and light editing. If you're on a budget and you would like a zoom lens, this is the one to go for.

      Dean Faccini This was my EXACT experience with this lens on a6400... for me it was a stepping stone.. a bit of a tease really as it always ALMOST got what I wanted... That said, what it was really good at focusing was my desire for a great telephoto lens as I wasn't sure at first but became completely addicted to :)

    I`m an enthusiast, nothing more and bought this lens new along with the A6000 a year ago and use it for landscapes mainly .I`ve been pleased with the image quality along the focal length .I have found that with the OSS I can get sharp images in many situations without needing to use a tripod .For me F8 to F11 is the sweet spot .Along with the in camera filters and settings I`ve tried ,this lens can produce images I am pleased with that rely on very little basic (Windows Photos ) editing.

    I had been using a 3d printed adaptor to run a Canon lens on my ZV-E10, it was fine but not ideal. I picked this Sony lens up for 130 open box and I think it's a fantastic lens for the price. I'm getting some good wildlife outdoor stuff and even pretty good insect pics. I can tell that I'm going to want something more wide angle for close things.

  • @tiffanyt.4909

    Got my a6000 a couple of years ago on Boxing Day with the kit lens. But I didn't use it much until covid started and there's not much to do after work. I always enjoy watching sunrise, sunset and moonrise... I was like why not get a telescope lens and start to shoot the sun and moon. I searched online and found this lens. Purchased a used one and I just LOVE it. Not only because it does the job for sun/moon photography at 210. I also love it at 55 (I ended up using 55 more...lol...) for portraits, landscape and random stuff. It's hard to fit everything in the frame sometimes but that's also what inspired me to be creative to see what CAN fit in the frame. The imagine quality is great for the price. It was this lens got me hooked on photography! Now I'm ready to upgrade my kit lens, deciding between 35 1.8 and 16-55 2.8.... I need a fast lens for the wide end. lol

    How about motorsports? Like motorcycles going fast on a track, will i be able to capture them? How's the A6000's burst shooting? Thank you!

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes! For being as old as it is, it will still do a good job. 12 shots per second on burst. There are a lot better cameras for burst shooting, as the a6000 doesn’t have 30fps, or the buffer of more expensive cameras. Shooting fast objects just takes practice, and then you can use burst shooting to help you grab the moment you want. Patience, practice, then add in the tech aspect. Understand the best way to hold the camera for stability, learn through trial and error the best shutter speed for the speed the motorcycles are traveling, and then decide if you need to use the fastest burst setting, or middle, or even slow or single shot. Play around with slow shutter to get blurry cycles in the shot even!
      Edit: if you shoot RAW, and use high speed burst. The buffer of the camera will fill up after a certain amount of shots. Only so much internal buffer/memory for so many shots. JPEG, you’ll get more shots continuously, but less data to play with in the editing process. Just some things to consider.

      55-210 is far too short if you want to be able to get close to your subjects and its focus is too slow.
      70-350m on the other hand is perfect as you will be able to get close to the players, but to record video
      with this lens I would not recommend.
      Because it will get shaky very quickly, if you intend to hold the camera for a long period.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The kit lens can only go to 3.5 at 16mm. When you’re shooting portraits, 16mm is wide, and it also gives people’s faces rounded shape. As you go to further focal lengths the shape of people’s faces distort less. That’s why 85mm full frame, or 50mm for the a6000 series is considered “portrait” focal length. 👍🏻

    i got this lens for like $100. i have even taken some pretty great pics with it. while i mainly rock a a7iii w/a 85mm 1.8 or a sigma 70-200mm 2.8, i like to use the a6100 and the 55-210, especially for trips. used, this is like a $400-$500 combo, so i don't worry about it getting destroyed.

    This is my only lens for my a6000! I like it it does well when I'm shooting close up shots of something! Does good with family portraits too! But the thing I dislike is it doesn't zoom far enough for when I want to get a picture of the moon! Also I'm not the biggest fan getting wild life portraits with this either!!

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Going to say no. I think there are a lot of better options for those things, it’s better suited for outdoor use, wild life, or sports. Inside for products you’d need a lot of space. If you have a large room, it may be able to do product photography just fine.

    I have this lens when bought a6000 package 7 years ago. Only used it for twice. Recently try to use it again but find it has slow focus problem when put on a6100. the lens motor seems not fast enough to keep on the a6100 focus speed for the moving object (bird in the air) therefore all my shots were out of focus. Plan to sell this lens and maybe think about the new 70-350mm after couple years.

    • @kyletaggart

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is definitely the first lens I’d recommend starting with. Find it used for a steal between $100 to $200. If you have more money to spend, I’d say the Tamron 18-300mm. If you don’t need a ton of reach, I’d recommend the Sony 18-135mm or if you’re interested in video, the Sony 18-105 G.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simple answer: Yes!
      Longer answer: Yes but it’s field of view will not be equivalent to a full frame 55-210mm. It will have the same field of view as a full frame lens that’s a 82mm-315mm. Why? Because this is an APSC lens, it’s designs for smaller sensors.
