I understand that the hand when using the knives has the same function as the elbow in the empty hand system and so there are simmilarities. But to claim the whole empty hand system came from there, I'm not sure.
I am under the impression that a lot of Kung-Fu came from weapons systems as the transition from Ming to Qing dynasty had a huge impact on martial arts. However it is hard to ignore the simmilarities between Wing-Chun and White Crane for example or other hakkanese systems.
