Wing Chun / Ving Tsun hand combat was originally reverse engineered from double knife fighting. Being in receipt of the full system is to embody the knife skill. This is more than just form practice. It is the capacity to operate the blades as an extension of the body imbued with power from the ground.

Fantastic teaching and fluidity!
Been to two of Gary Lam's Seminars at Sifu John Lobb's Kwoon, I still feel very privaliged and honoured. Been to two of Alan Orr's training camps which were very good too. GM Sam Kwok and Cliff Au Yeung Seminars too - but being at Gary Lam's Seminars were by far the best.
I DID SEMINAR WITH HIM, HE IS GREAT!
Gary lam seminar is a must for any martial artist
WOW - what an incredible weekend...! Sifu Gary Lam is the rare combination of skilled fighter and thoughtful teacher - so disappointed I'll be stuck at work (and in another country)...! If you're reading this and you're on the fence or even just a little curious about martial arts or gung fu, Sifu Lam will not disappoint! Train hard!
One thing I really like about this share - and it's great, so many great things happening here - is I hear you clearly speaking with Sifu Lam's voice, knowledge and experience. Hope you all have a terrific, fun seminar next month and thank you, Sifu Lobb for sharing your experience - much appreciated
Very interesting video.I would share something Sifu Gary says :"If you can't finish a fight within 3 seconds, you don't know Wing Chun.'. One needs a lot of practise to be able to do that though.!
Nice!
Very interesting, thanks!
Super rad - thank you for sharing...!
Watch all of his videos and watch how he hits everyone. He's a bully. He came from the CKO under Tong Liu. I trained under CKO until they bullied me out when instead they supported a peadophile after I raised concerns about how he was treating his daughters. When I did he menipulated people who I had trained for over 10 years to completely dismiss me. I gave up at 30. And I have only just got back to the point of objective reality. The CKO does not care about anything but its publicity much like this bafoon in the video. What a shit way to preserve an art. By being bullies and supporting abusers
Hello, I train wing tsun in Poland; we have different outfits but also different tactics than you show on YT; I asked SiFu several times why there were differences - I got the answer: do not ask I do not understand why Regards Daniel
Oh I'm sorry to hear that Daniel, I hope you find the information you need. Train hard have fun
@@garylamwingchun9283 Thank you for your answer; I have the impression, and it's not just me, that all of Central Europe trains different Wing Tsun; even the names are different: wing tsun, wing chun, ving chun I see films from Germany, the UK and China and it all looks different; If it's not a secret, do you pay for students' grades in the UK?
@@DanelSwitalski not at my school, they pay a course fee in advance or pay as they go, they pass when the standard is met
@@garylamwingchun9283 Hello, In Poland, the exam for grades (there are 12 of them) costs 100 euros
@@DanelSwitalski this is fairly normal in most lineages Daniel
Very exciting stuff!!!
Bullshit. Hes a complete prick. Train with him and you will find out. Lay a finger on him and he will hate you
One time we went to a place to celebrate christmas and new year. He was caught being overcome in chi sau and sparring. He made one of our members sit in his car for over an hour while he watched the video over and over and over. Obsessive and objectively a complete prick
Inspiring stuff. The school, the students, the teacher - that back yard is one of my favorite places on Earth - thanks for sharing
I feel so unfortunate i am not in this class. Nor i have these levels of Wing Chun classes or teachers in my country.
First time i am seeing a Sifu wearing a helmet while teaching Wing Chun and the student who is learning is not wearing a helmet.
Lobb seems to be the best wing chun guy that’s out there today!! This is great stuff!!!
Ive been bitching about the boxing gloves stopping you from threading the needle in wingchun yet people still think they can make it work.
I respect the struggle around center they are having. Now if I can do that but without the effort and all of the structure that would be the dream.
Sifu John Lobb is the real deal. You can tell by the way he fights and also by the way he explains - it's clearly coming from a place of deep understanding - he's trying very hard to get *you* to understand him, too...! Thank you for sharing your experience with us...!
That was awesome.
The clarity provided here is excellent!
I am amazed there are no comments. this is one of the best chi sao sparring videos I have seen anywhere. I trained for 10 years in Leung Ting lineage and 2 years in Wong shun leung (philipp bayer). . By slowing the video down to one quarter speed I can see what he is doing and I can incorporate at least sone of the concepts and techniques into my own wing chun. I think at the end he is kind of showing off, when he does the level change on the outside to punch to the body and when he incorporates hook punches and some wide swinging hammer punches, but it is really beautiful chi sao. His former student Dean Pugh is also very good.
good Job 👍
this is the real stuff!
It's curious how Wing Chun resembles the Praying Mantis boxing sometimes. I loved this helmet. 🤩
Wow, amazing share - very smart, very useful. Great stuff here. I can clearly hear the voice(s) of Sifu Gary Lam and Sigung Wong Shun Leung speaking through Sifu John Lobb - Thank you for sharing your experience
You’re in danger of starting to sound a bit like a northerner John, only a bit, just certain words but it’s definitely there 🙂. I hope you’re well my friend. 🐠🐠🐠
Ha!
Should bring some Muay Thai fighters to spar , then you will find out if wc works under real pressure and whether you are able to take a hit and not crumble
I am a Muay Thai fighter.
Ru not using too much force muscular, the style u have is very hard
Sometimes it can be good to pressure test with force. Chi sao without direction beacomes very tame and you cant really capitalize on anything. Its like two wrestlers where noone attacks. In wing chun you should always have forward pressure, its an idiom of the system. You can also get a workout in if you roll heavy.
Are you training to fight ? Or are you training to train ? ;-) to give muscular up, you have to use them first…
Nice and clear explanation.
💯
That was great thank you
Most welcome 4th
I'm so proud of you. You are remarkable.
Your mate in the blue shirt looks like lewis
...This kind of attack I saw in old indian (hindu) movies from 70 ...
I've actually had mma fighters say to me "wing chun is shit, because I'd never allow myself to get into the sort of fight that wing chun is good at (ie bar fights against multiple attackers in confined spaces with improvised weapons), to which my response is always "gosh... How do you do that? ." 😂
John, are those weighing scales on the wall to get some 'force' measure for strikes? If so, I thought you might like to know that those water bags, you know the bell shaped ones like the traditional leather ones you have, have a sensor available for them that sits in the water so that a force reading can be taken from strikes.
I didn't know that! Great info thanks i will look into 👍
@@garylamwingchun9283 No problem. If I remember, I'll email you some details.
@@garylamwingchun9283 dropped you that email with some details.
And that's how it's done.
John, on this I see your front foot lifting and the force going down the back leg whose foot is turned out around 70-85 degrees to the tan. Given that how come the tan alignment is with the front leg knee here? Honest Q, I've always loved your stuff.
Hi Bob based on the degree of pressure on receipt the additional force moves in and through the back leg as my bodyweight is pushed back.
@@garylamwingchun9283 Thanks John, much appreciated.
@@bobbobbing4381 Welcome
Nice.
well done dad
Great video thanks
"Wing Chun / Ving Tsun hand combat was originally reverse engineered from double knife fighting." I'd be interested in a source for this claim. I understand that the hand when using the knives has the same function as the elbow in the empty hand system and so there are simmilarities. But to claim the whole empty hand system came from there, I'm not sure. I am under the impression that a lot of Kung-Fu came from weapons systems as the transition from Ming to Qing dynasty had a huge impact on martial arts. However it is hard to ignore the simmilarities between Wing-Chun and White Crane for example or other hakkanese systems.
Epic video!
Great video!
Great content, looking forward to the seminar 👍👍💪
Good explanation and demonstration of the three defences.
Microphone highly recommended on instructor Lobb. Camera-holder's breathing distracts from the lesson.
Fantastic
