Been to two of Gary Lam's Seminars at Sifu John Lobb's Kwoon, I still feel very privaliged and honoured. Been to two of Alan Orr's training camps which were very good too. GM Sam Kwok and Cliff Au Yeung Seminars too - but being at Gary Lam's Seminars were by far the best.

WOW - what an incredible weekend...! Sifu Gary Lam is the rare combination of skilled fighter and thoughtful teacher - so disappointed I'll be stuck at work (and in another country)...! Watch all of his videos and watch how he hits everyone. He's a bully. He came from the CKO under Tong Liu. I trained under CKO until they bullied me out when instead they supported a peadophile after I raised concerns about how he was treating his daughters. When I did he menipulated people who I had trained for over 10 years to completely dismiss me. I gave up at 30. And I have only just got back to the point of objective reality. The CKO does not care about anything but its publicity much like this bafoon in the video. What a shit way to preserve an art. By being bullies and supporting abusers

I am amazed there are no comments. this is one of the best chi sao sparring videos I have seen anywhere. I trained for 10 years in Leung Ting lineage and 2 years in Wong shun leung (philipp bayer). . By slowing the video down to one quarter speed I can see what he is doing and I can incorporate at least sone of the concepts and techniques into my own wing chun. I think at the end he is kind of showing off, when he does the level change on the outside to punch to the body and when he incorporates hook punches and some wide swinging hammer punches, but it is really beautiful chi sao. His former student Dean Pugh is also very good.

Sometimes it can be good to pressure test with force. Chi sao without direction beacomes very tame and you cant really capitalize on anything. Its like two wrestlers where noone attacks. In wing chun you should always have forward pressure, its an idiom of the system. You can also get a workout in if you roll heavy.

John, are those weighing scales on the wall to get some 'force' measure for strikes? If so, I thought you might like to know that those water bags, you know the bell shaped ones like the traditional leather ones you have, have a sensor available for them that sits in the water so that a force reading can be taken from strikes.

"Wing Chun / Ving Tsun hand combat was originally reverse engineered from double knife fighting." I'd be interested in a source for this claim. I understand that the hand when using the knives has the same function as the elbow in the empty hand system and so there are simmilarities. But to claim the whole empty hand system came from there, I'm not sure. I am under the impression that a lot of Kung-Fu came from weapons systems as the transition from Ming to Qing dynasty had a huge impact on martial arts. However it is hard to ignore the simmilarities between Wing-Chun and White Crane for example or other hakkanese systems.
