Hai Nguyen Well it was better than just leaving him completely reverted back to who he was at the beginning of the series as if the last 4 seasons of character development never happened.
It's interesting to see that HIMYM had such an impact on so many people (including me) like the first 8 seasons of pure laughter (except for a few heartbreaks) were like a preparation for the ending it's kind of a calming but still you have so many questions and its interesting to see that a sitcom could change into a drama/heartbreaking series

My story is so much like Ted mosby. Foolishly romantic, desperate to get married. Making too many efforts to find love. Chasing almost everygirl in the city I meet. Waiting for "the one". Also have a best friend with whom I fell in love. And have now proposed her for marriage. Also have another guy in the group who is just like Barney (never serious in life) n I have a feeling she might like him. I have to wait n watch, in my story will this Ted get Robin or will Ted got to wait for the woman in yellow umbrella.

In my 26 years I've been living on this planet, I just finished HIMYM for the first time (better late than never) and I'm leaking like Niagra Falls. This show hit me so hard. Ted is like me in my life. I'm just speechless.

That’s what I hated the most about the finale. Why make Barney change and become a better man just to have him go back to his old self and shoe horn a baby at the end. His growth to get back Robin was so satisfying and they should have ended there. When Lily and Marshal got their baby it was satisfying because we saw them before and during the pregnancy so we care about Marvin as much as they do. In the finale, The baby scene is not even close to this because there was little built-up to that moment. It was really shoehorned in this to give some closure to Barney’s character as a way for the screenwriters to apologize for screwing up his marriage just so that Ted and Robin would be together; even though they showed that Barney and Robin works better. Very disappointing
Oh god this show was so fucking great. I swear, everything about it was beautifully realistic and comforting. You know what i love the most? I love the fact that they lived in different houses and apartaments throughout the series (unlike friends for exemple or big bang theory) it makes everything so realistical like this is life "you never end up where you thought you would" but in the end it all fits together perfectly in this big messy beautiful story.
The way Barney says "You're all alone" fucks me up every time. I know it seems so futile but, his tone is so heartbreaking.
Now i finished all 9 seasons in this week.. Finally i m happy

Something is missing - the episode on the boat, where Robin and Barney have to said about their cheating. The scene in the end, when Barney showed up in the bar and saw Robin but the time is stop... It melts my heart every time

I just finished watching the show last night so snd the first one hits different when you have seen until the end of the show bc you realize what he means by “extra”. And the second one made me cry the first time I watch it and it made me cry again. 1 bc I’m happy for them and 2 bc they get a divorce. I love Robin and Barney together so much and the first time they showed liking of each other I was like “YES YES YES” they would be perfect for each other. I was so happy when they finally got married and then in the next episode they like “yep it wasn’t working we got a divorce” that made me cry.

A lot of ppl didnt like the ending but it kind of made sense , they were a perfect couple but for the sake of love on the show they werent each others first true love tracy met someone she was perfect for and he died and and ted loved robin for 9 years they were good for each other but were also conselation prizes for each other
Barney taught me that you could be the cruelest, most selfish person in the world and still get your happy ending.

The beauty in the "Ted's speech" scene isn't even the moment he is at the door of the Mother. It's the moment Ted realizes he's haunted by the fun and simple past that has left him and is replaced by the growth of characters. Lily and Marshall are raising a kid. Barney and Robin are planning their wedding. I think we all had or will have this moment Ted had in that bar. That moment we have to accept that things change and we have to grow with that change instead of holding onto what is familiar.
That moment gave me chills when I first watched it, and the beauty of him wanting to go back made the one thing he would have done all the more special. Just those extra 45 days are what he would've traded the world for in that moment

That first scene is always so heartbreaking. I'd put it on my top 3 list of most heartbreaking scenes in himym, along with when Lily broke the news to Marshall of his dad's death, and Barney's confrontation with Jerry while he was trying to take the basketball hoop.

Another really sad part was when Barney and Robin we're going to break up with their boyfriend/girlfriend and meet at the bar and get back together and Barney does and is waiting for her and she didn't do it. Between the look he gives her and all the sound stopping and all you hear is the ticks, man that shit gets me every time.
I never could understand that why everyone felt off with the ending of the series. It is the most emotional, beautiful and comic series that I have ever seen. The journey was humorous, tragic but definitely legendary. Honestly, it is better than FRIENDS and not because of its comedy (which is iconic in itself "Thanks Barney") but because this series has taught me about the life in a far better way than anything else. Ted Mosby is that nice guy who never could find the right girl, Marshall is that other guy who got lucky in his youth and found his innocent love and Barney is the guy who never believed in love but found it anyway. It taught me that if you are a good person and a caring person with a loving heart and an emotional endurance to look at everything in the eye and still smile, someday you will be rewarded with a beautiful set of friends, a beautiful girl and a beautiful life. How I Met Your Mother is like Harry Potter, it can be watched again and again and the magic is always there.
People hate the ending coz it’s simply bad not necessarily of what happened, but how it happened. It makes a u turn on so many characters developments. The divorce and ted going for robin are just not well done. You can’t just shove those moments in. Major moments like those need to be developed and led to, like how ted meeting Tracey was for so long. If the divorce was done in an earlier season, no one would care. Also, ted going after robin is also stupid even if you wanted them to be together simply because it doesn’t fit the story. If Barney and robin couldn’t work out coz of all the traveling, how will ted and robin? Also, no sane person still loves someone(romantically) after being with the love of their life for a decade. You move on. That’s why the ending sucks. It’s not coz it wasn’t a happy ending, it was bad writing.

If they had left it at the moment when Ted says "And that kids, is how I met your mother" this would be one of the greatest shows of all time. That last 5 minutes with his kids and the whole Robin thing ruined it all for me. It just completely undid all the character development for both Ted and Robin. The mother dying and the divorce did work with the show I feel it was just the Ted and Robin thing I hated because with the way the story had arced, it made no sense whatsoever
Himym taught us a lot of things which includes life being unpredictable. In my honest opinion, the ending is one of those.
Not gonna lie, I'm a guy watching this at 1 am tearing apart about how perfect this show was and that there is hope for everyone to find someone, now damn it Patrice stop cutting onions!!
HIMYM definitely changed my life. It definitely made me passionate and view the world on a time limit and made me want to take advantage of every opportunity. It makes you feel like everyone has a special partner made for them in life. Too perfect.

When you realise that 4 of the 5 moments are in season 8.. Season 8 is definitely the most emotional and dramatic season, apart from Marshall's father death in season 6... Yet, people say that season 8 and 9 are their least favourite.. 8 is actually my most favourite

You forgot Marshall's dad dying, Ted cheering Robin up with Highway to Hell, Marshall's dad's voicemail, Barney meeting his daughter, Barney realizing how much Loretta has been there for him. Not every best moment on the show had to do with love.

I think Ted's Christmas for Robin and Barney meeting his daughter should have been here, those moments were so touching, and that moment with Barney really made his character into a whole new light of believing in love. And funnily enough, it wasn't some slut that was his soul mate, it was his innocent daughter that became the thing he'd love the most. Even though we don't see her much afterwards, that moment forever changed Barney Stinson for the better

it never occurred to me the 2nd time watching the series that these lines from his speech to her greatly foreshadow her death, he isn't talking about wanting to start their relationship sooner, instead its his present self (narrator) expressing that he would do anything to just have those extra 45 days with her because she is no longer with him. "until the end of my days" instead of "our days" is another way there kind of hinted that she isn't always going to be around. I could be way off on this haha but to me, this scene feels like there's so much more to it.

The speech and her death makes the ending so full of emotion and it's imo a unique ending to a sitcom. Not many sitcoms end like HIMYM. Not a happy ending where all the characters stay together

This show is legendary, i have watched at least 25 times, and each and every time it hit me in diferent ways. Being the marvelous songs on the back, or the way the characters behave, the remarkable acting of all of them, the more i watch, the better it gets, like a good old wine or my favorite book of all time Dom Casmurro, which i think is just as perfect as this series. I'm in love for himym since the moment i saw, and the more i grow old the better it gets, thank you How i met your mother, you guys were legen you don't have to wait for it anymore Dary.

He is talking to his kids about how he wishes he'd done that (going to Tracy's apartment that day) so he could have spent 45 days more with her; because at the moment he is saying this she is already dead. It never happened in reality

Man, when HIMYM ended, it felt like part of my life ended. What a great show. Life is not always as legendary as the TV shows. But this form of art sure leaves something for us to go back and revisit from time to time.

One can learn alot in life watching HIMYM.. I got left by my fiance a month before our wedding. Families, friends & re-watching Ted's life helped me thru. Now I'm happily married with two wonderful kids & most amazing wife..( now we're more Marshmellow & Lilypad 😁❤❤❤

The ending wasn't bad, it was just rushed. I really don't know why they spent the entire 9th season on the wedding. If they just shortened that part and had a handful more episodes getting to know Tracey and seeing her get sick, the ending would've been perfect. I also don't understand why everyone says the entire show is ruined. Definitely could have executed the final season WAY better but that doesn't take away from how great a show How I Met Your Mother actually is...All that being said, even though season 9 is not amazing, I still liked the ending.

It's just the fact all of the season was the wedding then the finale is a divorce which really got to me cause of my parents
Matt Maltese Here's how I would have done it. The first half of the season would have been the Wedding and it ends with Ted just about to meet Tracey. The second half would have been them dating, having kids and watching Ted finally having the married life he always wanted. After all it was Ted's story, not the Barney and Robin show. The final, two parter would see her getting sick (assuming she has breast cancer) and pulling through. Towards the end and seeing that he almost lost Tracey, he would finally say something like "It's time I told them" and calling the kids into the living room to begin the story. Finally we cut back to Ted meeting Tracey and the montage alternate ending would be used here. Once Ted says "And that kids is how I met your mother", Tracey would come in and sarcastically ask, "Ted, what are you doing?". Ted would then reply "I'm telling the kids how I met you." Tracey would tell the kids to run before Ted "tortures" them anymore and Ted and Tracey would walk out on the front porch and sit with Lily, Marshall, Robin and Barney. We would pan around everyone and see them together one last time before we see Ted and Tracey say I love you one more time. It would fade to black and that would be the end.
It was annoying bcuz ted was the main character, but Barney got 22 episodes for his wedding while Ted got 1 scene.

It's my second favorite scene after La Vie En Rose scene. The music when we see Farhampton sign is so powerful and perfect for the moment it's like a firework of emotions. One of the best sitcoms ever.

This show is pure perfection besides the divorce.. I was fine with the mother passing away cause it made it even more emotional and was amazing writing... but the divorce was shit, making Ted end up with Robin is trashhh

I don’t care that the mother died I just care that Ted ended up with Robin after we had an entire episode of Ted letting her go and Barney leaving his player persona behind just for them to do a 180 in the last episode

So true. I wouldn’t have cared if ted and Robin ended up together, but it’s the thing with Barney that really pissed me off.
They had to, Barney even says why, Ted giving her up for Barney was required so people didn't think the mother was a 2nd choice. Robins entire character was to put her career first and run from serious shit, which she did, and Barney wasn't prepared to be married to the real Robin. The whole series shows Robin was someone to be with after the mother's death, because they always knew she was going to be killed off.
Space Penguins i think that it shows that people can’t really change. And that if the circumstances are right people will go back to who they initially are. I feel that robin and Ted were meant to be, but life is a long road and they both had to find who they really were in order to really fall in love with each other. You know?
Space Penguins The last two episode was basically like 3 seasons of development on 3000x Speed. I believed it Since Barney has long abandoned his bang every chick in the bar persona. He regressed a few times but none of it felt meaningful to him after robin. Not rly. And as the show has proved time and time again there was always always an unbreakable between Ted and robin. And even old man ted had to keep on fighting for the one thing he truly believed in and go after the person he’s been after since the beginning.
my favorite moment is (in the last episode) Ted trying to re-propose to Tracy while she keeps interrupting him by saying 'yes', 3 times.

I Love this show. It has become an eternal part of me now and will cherish it all my life.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S. and HIMYM are really different shows which are close to our hearts, please don't compare them and just have fun.

Been 4 years and I’m still pissed that they ruined Barney and Robin in the finale. Ted and Robin did not belong together, they never did. She and Barney made much more sense and should have at least gotten back together later on.

@@Emerald449 EXACTLY! Ted had gone all out for Robin, and what does Robin do in return? Absolutely nothing! She wasn't even that good a friend to Ted let alone lover. Ted deserved Tracy so much, she was so perfect for him evidenced in every scene she was presented. Ted going after Robin again at the end was so tragic.

Watch that "45 day" speech again, as a person who already saw the ending. A lot of people hate the ending, but once you know what happened you realize this scene with future ted talking to his kids mother in current tense is PURE GOLD. I personally loved the ending, and thought it was super realistic even if not fitting to a happy go lucky fairy tale.

It never was supposed to be a happy go lucky fairy tale, the sow tried to do be this. They wanted to portait life of a normal human being, going through life with his best friends. Life isn't always fun and not always have a happy ending.
