I agree, can you imagine being the first non Native entering the land of the Ute; who must have thought the world was coming to an end; and for them and their ways were soon lost-such is manifest destiny! Not trying to be politically correct or offensive, but let us all not forget to thank the original inhabitants of the Ouray area and of this great Nation for having taken such great care of this land way before you and I could wonder in its grandeur! I love your channel, you bring back memories of the places I once explored with my young family so many years ago: of the five of us only two of are alive today, like I said, thank you for taking me along! God’s Speed
We were out there this summer in our Ram as well. I had run Poughkeepsie before in a ‘72 K5 Blazer and in thinking through the Wall, similar to what you mentioned Kevin, I figured the extra wheel base would actually help as long as I could avoid getting high centered. Our Ram has steps on it that are not nerfs, just regular old steps and I almost took them off before our trip because I figured they’d get hit and I wasn’t wrong, but my wife didn’t really care if they got mangled or bumped the rocker as long as she can still use them to get into the truck. Real sliders are in the future though. The suspension on this truck is stock other than a Thuren Fab front sway bar that is a bit less rigid than the OEM and I disconnect the rear bar. No lockers, no lift, no spacers, just slap some 37’s on’em and go. These trucks are pretty incredible. Black Bear is on my list for next time… th-cam.com/video/RtJQc1dQlho/w-d-xo.html
This is one of the best episodes yet for sure. The beauty of Colorado, the gnarly 4wd obstacle you both conquered and beat the Jeep! And finishing with the best meal a bloke could want. 👌🏼
@@SwellRunner That is a sweet rig for sure! I was digging it in the videos in East Tennessee. You guys were 35 minutes from my house when you met up at Indian Boundary Campground.
I live in Ouray and have been subbed to you guys for years. The fact I missed you is almost heartbreaking haha, glad you guys had an amazing time. Spent multiple nights at that epic camp.
I love it when you're in my home state. I'm a different kind of full-time traveler, currently exploring Croatia. If memory serves, the last time I watched you trailblazing through Colorado, I was in South Korea. Don't we live in a gorgeous world?!
Such a fun trip that looked to be. The San Juans are a blast, with so many trails to run, changing conditions, and things to explore. We were there on the 18 of Sept for a group trail ride and that was a blast.
We love going up there on the ATVs and having lunch while watching all the carnage happen. 😄 I have the honor to say that I am one of the very few who have concord the "Wall" on a quad. No winch and no help. 😁
Great episode. Poughkeepsie is so much fun, and lots of cool rock crawling spots. I made it up the wall a couple years ago in my lifted and locked XJ on 33, although with a little body damage. No way I’d try it in my Ram Rebel though. Cool to see that AEV walk up it
Just about lost our XJ on "The Wall" last year. Pretty tough obstacle on an awesome trail. Hopefully it ended as well for you as it did for me! Wife is still unhappy about that day, but it is a memory that will last a lifetime!
We used starlink alot the last time we were out in the same area you are in sept. It worked great! We streamed HD movies, uploaded videos, etc etc. It was amazing. Even made wifi calls and it never skipped a beat!
The more trips you make to the place the more details you see.. With the exception of Engineer Pass, the only view I have ever seen from up there is Rain, Rain and more Rain 😂😂😂
Engineer is pretty good. When your back in Colorado I recommend Taylor over to pearl pass. Probably my favorite route in Colorado. Better views and just a fraction of people.
Going Full Size, I recommend more my rig. Powe Wagon (locking front and rear, disconnecting swaybar, 15k Warn winch all from factory). Replace suspension and radius arms with the Carli Pintop system (2.5" King). Same snorkel, same rear bumper. It'll do FAR better offroad, is 700 lbs lighter, etc.
I love the wall on Pookeepsie. I have never driven a truck down it, but I have spotted for a couple jeeps. I've been up and down it a dozen times on SxS and dirt bikes. I spotted for a guy on a CanAm and he literally did nothing I said and almost tumbled backwards down the mountain.
Fairly new subscriber here but random question, where did you get all the patches from? Are they from different places you've visited or just some you purchased because you liked them?
I'd love to have a time machine too. I'd love to go back say 13,000 to 14,000yrs in my area. That's when the Native Americans were very active. Then I'd go out to White Sands and go back some where around 20,000 to 30,000yrs. With what is going on with DNA it becomes more and more mind blowing. Then down to Central and South America and check out how they built all the stone work. Professional stone masons have looked at the blocks and admit they have no idea how they cut the stones and put them in place. If I had the money to buy an Icon, I'd love to do what you are doing.
Great video! I have a feeling you showed up at your meet up just in time. Two guys on bikes hiding behind face shields looked a little sketchy in my opinion..
@@LifestyleOverland it's just that all the face mask over the last 3 years has got me on edge, you don't know who's scared or gonna rob ya that's all. Has nothing to do with rich sketchy guys on bikes with face shields in the middle of nowhere. 🤣 stay safe!

Cool video. You said that in 2015 you had to "tuck your tail" and winch... I don't think winching should be viewed as a negative or a failure. To me, knowing when it's appropriate to break out the winch is more of a success than breaking a rig due to ego. I've winched over Poughkeepsie Wall before (in a 5th Gen 4Runner, no less) and don't view our run as a "failure" or "tucking our tail" at all. It was about making the right call in the moment, which is always a positive. Others look to your videos for motivation, education, and advice- I'd hate to think someone pushed it a little too far because they heard you say winching was a "tuck your tail" moment. Oh- and your title is a wee bit click-baity... "Rollover?!" You knew Silver wasn't going over ;)
I was also clear in this and many other videos that there is no room for ego. I encouraged Jason to go with his gut and if he attempted it to make a very slow crawl to see how it felt to him. I only meant "tucking tail" in regards to the obstacle. Obviously if you can't climb it without a winch you've not "conquered" it. This was a victory for Silver and a redemptive story that took 7 years of skill development and rig build to take it on. The fact that I still nearly rolled it makes it a cautionary tale that demonstrates to anyone that it doesn't matter how prepared you might be, a rollover can still happen. As the title implied... There's clearly a question mark behind it, not a statement because it did indeed nearly roll over.👍 Another half a degree and she would have flopped, lol.
Running first obstacle is just stupid, (from an overlander's perspective) that trail doesn't even get you anywhere! Silver was almost totaled:( Image if the family had been in there. Would have been another one of those dreaded Colorado 4x4 stories...Also shows that the typical modified 4Runner doesn't rock crawl well..
I explained the story behind this obstacle in the video. It's not something we do often, or intentionally seek out; but it was a fun challenge. As to capabilities, she took every obstacle in a single pass. So, pretty impressive as a mild crawler... IMO. 🤷
That Prosecutor didn’t climb the hill. It’s so heavy that it rotated the Earth underneath it.
